@InYourMom: "And then the early death of the Xbox1 due to patent problems with Nvidia didn't give it any legs compared to PS2."
Hahaha! I love how this crowd continues to make up new arguments and "facts", as quickly as all the old ones prove to be completely false. Microsoft's orphaning the Xbox1 in record time had nothing to do with Nvidia. It had everything to do with their desire to get the Xbox 1.5 to market first (design and testing be damned). If i...
Dude, pick an argument and stick to it. On the one hand, nobody has an HDTV so Blu-ray is useless. On the other hand, there's whiz-bang technology coming out "in the next year" that'll make Blu-ray obsolete.
US HDTV penetration stands at around 40% of households RIGHT NOW. Have you been anywhere near a Best Buy or Circuit City lately? I would guess not, if you think that the average consumer doesn't have, or isn't on the verge of getting, an HDTV.

Spoken like someone who doesn't own an HDTV, or a decent sound system. If you think the storage size, image quality, sound quality, interactive features, of Blu-ray don't amount to much, then no ones' going to try to convince you otherwise. Just look at the lines on the graph, with explosive sales increases of both HDTVs and Blu-ray. It doesn't have to "suddenly outsell DVDs"; it simply has to follow the rough sales trajectory that it's on, which already surpasses the e...
A BD strap-on announcement within a month? I'll take that bet. Instead they'll probably continue to announce content partnerships and play up the "future is downloadable HD" angle. Not that many people will buy this, mind you.
"...does Microsoft want to look like the loser who doesn't have the functionality to compete? Even worse, won't the Xbox 360 suddenly look like the console that may be able to play games, but can't let you enjoy high-def movies?"
"God just because someone proved you wrong it doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to question more things."
Of course it does, if you're locked into the same pattern of denial and ever-changing spin we've seen for the past year-plus. For some, the simple truth is too painful. There are an awful lot of people eating an awful lot of crow these days, and an awful lot of online accounts being abandoned by people running away from their previous arguments against B...
"all you do is rant on and on about how great this system is. I don't think it sucks, but come on. If it is so great than why do you guys consitantly feel the need to talk about it. Should'nt you be playing your amazing machine. I rarely see 360 people on here with anything to say so should'nt that tell you something"
LOL! Another attack piece saying how horrible the PS3 and Sony's marketing are, and all of a sudden it's all about the PS3 fanboys saying how great the s...
Hahahaha! Good one, Ian!
Despite a pitch that is so "ineffective", the PS3 has still managed to overtake the 360 in all territories, is nipping at the Wii's heels, has won the format war, and has vindicated every major decision Sony made with respect to standard HDD, HDMI, free online gaming, standard BD, and on and on. Just imagine how Sony's going to dominate once they start taking the advice of experts like this bozo.
Note to Ian: Next time maybe you ...
In response to this story, Toshiba has released the following statement:
"We are disappointed in Toshiba's decision to cease support of the HD-DVD format. We maintain our position that HD-DVD represents a significant value proposition for the consumer, and look forward to continued cooperation with our remaining partners. Despite the Toshiba announcement, we at Toshiba remain fully committed to the HD-DVD format."
"check out amazon and xploitedcinema.com cuz they have bluray movies on hddvd that u can order"
Whoa. I had no idea that HD-DVD had THAT capability. If they can put Blu-ray movies on HD-DVD, then maybe the format isn't dead after all :)
I saw this coming. Of course they have to say sh1t like this. They've got a lot of product in the retail channel that they have to push - hardware and software. The only way someone's going to buy an HD-DVD movie right now is if they (a) already own a player, and (b) can delude themselves for at least a little while - "Yes! They're still supporting me!" Or maybe (c) they're from another planet or otherwise not exactly up on current events.
Toshiba, Universal, and...
"but either way this is doing nothing other then hurting the rest of the Live community. MS now refusing to release updates as to what the issues might be simply b/c some Texas idiots couldn't get their online gaming fix for a few days."
This should give you a bit of insight into what kind of company this is, and what they think of their customers. Their intent is to provoke just the sort of reaction you voiced: "Hey, those little whiners are hurting the rest o...
"Doctor, it hurts when I stick my face in the fan!"
- "Then stop sticking your face in the fan."
It really has gotten to the point where people need to stop complaining and writing about their problems with the 360 and XBL. I mean, we get it already. Apparently you don't.
? has sold far more than twice the PS3.
-- Wrong. Has sold to date 78% more than the PS3 (16.48 M to 9.22 M - http://vgchartz.com/). Including all the second, third, fourth systems people have had to buy.
? makes PSN look like Modem gaming on the C64.
-- Wrong. Unless by that you mean online gaming that actually WORKS.
? dominates Multi-Media features.

1. This "we can't comment" line is utter, transparent B.S. Microsoft is under no judicial gag order not to comment about this case, nor the status of XBL in general. It is THEIR OWN LAWYERS who don't want them to make any statements, because each successive "okay, it's fixed now" announcement was starting to look embarrassing as the problem continued, and they don't want any of their statements used against them in court. So, what, they're never going to tell any of th...
Haha, touché. I'll bet Sony is cursing their dumb luck for having actually won the format war at such a burdensome cost.
And @ 18.1: What syllable in "billions" do you not understand? Yes, the royalties will be in the billions. Your quoting of numbers in the format's infancy is meaningless. This is not a "hell of a long way to go"; it's simply a normal product cycle. If you don't believe that, then I'm afraid you'll have to take a number - we've re...
Yuck! These grapes are sour!
"receiving a reported $500 million"... Oh, I see how it works. Report whatever pie-in-the-sky innuendo you can regarding Blu-ray, and ignore the similar (probably more factual) payouts that HD-DVD made.
"At what cost"? How about we ask "at what benefit" a few months from now when the serious royalty money starts rolling in?
Hahaha! I get a kick out of this every time somebody holds up Halo3 sales as somehow meaningful. The implication is, what, that the game is the best game out there? Wrong, huge sales of Halo3 are a function of exactly 3 things: (1) the simple size of the install base, (2) down-your-throat tens-of-millions-of-dollars marketing, and (3) the degree to which that system is completely pigeonholed into a single franchise. Every 360 owner buys Halo because that's basically what the system is fo...
Microsoft´s Xbox3 "Could" be an even bigger disaster.
So far, they haven't even shown that they can sell as many 360s as they did Xbox1. All "American pride" aside (believe me, there's plenty of Americans who will not go anywhere near a Microsoft product), are they that desperate that they have to start leaking stories now about a possible successor? Are they giving up on the 360 in an even shorter record time than they did the first one?
Nope, they don´t care.
Just as they don´t care about streaming media, IPTV, HDMI, playing music, or anything not specifically a videogame. Furthermore, they don´t care about hardware failures, or increasingly spotty online service. In fact, as long as they can play Halo 1-15, it´s all good :)
"Software Europe
ps3: 337,345
360: 284,710 "
This is obviously wrong, since it's common knowledge that the 360 has a much higher attach rate than any other console. I mean, everybody KNOWS that 360 owners buy far more games than PS3 or Wii owners, right? This is obviously the case, otherwise Microsoft and the legion of 360 bloggers wouldn't be able to keep saying/implying it, right?
