No, some of us DO understand how Natal is supposed to work - at least, insofar as that information has been made available.

While it may be theoretically possible to get high-resolution distance measurements on a per-pixel basis, you simply can't avoid the obvious truth that this sort of system is going to have a huge processing overhead (and associated cost), especially when compared to Sony's approach. See my other replies in this thread - these are only a few specific cases t...

@Kakkoii:

1. "And judge that your arm is behind you due to a distance difference compared to in front."

That makes no sense. In the case of arm-behind-the-back (ABTB), Natal's infrared would get NO INFORMATION from the arm; it would be blocked by the body, as infrared is just as line-of-sight as visible light. Hence, there is no distance difference that can be computed. Instead, ABTB would have to be INFERRED, by using all of the previous information ob...

Folks, what is pointed out in this article should be obvious, though I'm amused by the number of folks who just can't (or won't) get it.

The key point he makes, correctly, is that it's a matter of DISCRETE versus AMBIGUOUS inputs:

The Sony controller will send data for the DISCRETE things that a player does. The wand was just moved to x,y,z at angle a,b,c; a trigger was just pulled; the magic spell button was just pushed, to change from a water to a fire spell. The...

Not really, just trying to show the absurdity of the whole thing. Sorry if my insensitivity offended anyone.

And sorry if my above apology was, itself, offensive.

As a direct descendant of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, I take offense to this blatant mocking by the Sony Corporation. By making a joke about the cause of World War I, Sony is belittling the memory of a great man, whose assassination is widely acknowledged as the true triggering event of that unfortunate conflict. Just because the Archduke died many years ago, this does not give Sony the right to dishonor his memory. I insist that Sony change its advertising immediately, and not victimize one...

I was thinking the same thing, as I remember seeing these vids some time ago. I've been waiting for this tech to make its way into a game, and hope that this is indeed what's in GT5. (LOL at needing a full rack of qs21 blades to do this.)

Mmmm, no, I think you've got it wrong. This wouldn't be for looking left-right onto adjoining monitors. Think of it more like looking thru a window (e.g. windshield). If you lean forward a bit, you can peer thru the window and get a bit more peripheral vision to your left or right. You're not turning your whole head to the side. This might well be useful for looking thru a corner, seeing the vehicle right alongside, etc.

I'm hoping this is indeed included in the final game. ...

Maybe your challenge is that you don't understand the word "accidental". Or perhaps you've never played a game with other real people, and had to explain: "Oh, sorry guys, you all have to be sure not to touch THAT button, or you screw everything up. You know, that button right on the front of the controller, where your thumbs are constantly working the sticks."

The point is, it's a problem that didn't exist before the non-stop whiners showed up.

I have an alternative suggestion for Sony: Stop reacting to all the internet squeaky wheels. Take all those years of experience in designing consumer products, and stick to your vision.

While there's nothing wrong with taking internet feedback, just like any other form of market research, one gets the impression that many things are being done quickly just to appease all the loud griefers out there. For example: In-game XMB; many of us never wanted this, and I personally get s...

Soooo hyped for this game. What I've seen so far looks great. The create/share potential is definitely there.

That was painful to read. The equivalent of waterboarding the English language.

Stay in school, kids.

LMAO. So basically, "it's worth it because I say so."

And now when you can't support the logic of your argument, you simply change it. Brilliant.

Why not say: "I wonder how long before MS decides to start charging $150 or $200 per year. After all, if it's less than the cost of a Starbucks per day, then what's the big deal?"

Where the hell is the logic in that? PSN also has features that XBL lacks. See the previous compiled lists of things that you can do with PSN, but not with XBL. So how is it that the few features XBL has make it "worth it"?

"Stop arguing so much", says the guy after spouting off the same, tired, factually UNTRUE argument. Nice :|

"...That stuff just doesnt happen on Xbox live..."

Get serious, or get a short-term memory. Try googling "xbox live outage" if you need a reminder of just how many un-scheduled outages there have been, and continue to be, on XBL.

Again, if you people have a personal preference, then knock yourselves out. But don't t...

Yet another "comparison" article that doesn't even try to be complete/correct/unbiased. Hey, if you prefer XBL no matter what, then knock yourself out, but don't try to convince anyone else by creating another biased comparison.

1. Advertising: Why wasn't this mentioned? You're paying for this online service, yet STILL having to suffer thru advertising?

2. "I hear PSN is laggy": Please, son, don't even go there. PSN is rock solid for online...

Um, er, uh, ...

Oh hell, I got nothing. I mean, at some point, the ignorance and misinformation get so silly, you just have to let 'em say whatever they're gonna say.

EDIT: You beat me to it ;)

^^^ That's exactly the twisted logic being used, yet people will still give you disagrees, LOL.

These constantly shifting arguments of convenience are endlessly repeated, no matter how stupid. "Nobody needs HDMI"; "Nobody needs 1080p"; "Movies are stupid, it's all about the games - oops, I mean Woo-hoo for Netflix and streaming HD!"; "No game will need more than 7 GB this generation"; "The 360 GPU is superior, and the CPU is just as ...

@ ApocalyPS3: Dude, are you serious?

"bluray is overkill for gaming. Most games just don't need the space..."

If a game has to be split among X DVDs, and made playable on systems that don't have a HDD, how is it possible to have the game stream data without loading screens, or without constantly pausing for the player to swap discs? Hint: IT CAN'T BE DONE.

That was the point of what he was saying, no matter how deliberately dense people try t...

What's more maddening than the sheer number of these Sony-bashing articles, is the fact that few of them can even make a reasoned, coherent argument.

For example, the following mind-numbing statement:
"Sony aimed high with the PS3, and paid heavily for the development of the Cell processor and Blu-ray drive. Taking either of those forward would be even more costly. It's much easier to imagine a new Xbox 360 with a faster processor, Blu-ray instead of DVD..."

"Yes, we believe consumers should be compelled to not do anything that requires a hard drive; compelled to buy batteries for controllers; compelled to watch only DVD media; compelled to use an ethernet cable instead of wifi; compelled to spend much more for these missing features; compelled to pay for online gaming; compelled to send in their system every so often for repairs."
