"It took me a very long time to find games on PSN for COD4 so in the end, i just gave up and watched some NBA..."

Is that it, though? You had a problem finding a game of COD4 to play, so PSN gaming isn't up to par?

Haven't there been issues with people not able to join games in Halo 3, among other titles? Wasn't the Gears of War online component called "anemic" by many?

It's pretty clear that this all boils down to personal op...

@ 17.1: I know, but that's okay 'cause I'm REALLY good. Bubbles to you for recognizing, tho. (Ok, I'll stop now.)

@ 20 and the others: Guys, c'mon. We've all heard the same wishful-thinking arguments a hundred times by now. I know it's convenient to conjure up a world where all PS3 owners are ignorant, only play their stupid girlie-games, and would never actually buy a Blu-ray disk. But eventually you have to come back and live your life in this world.

Ok,...

Hmmm, thanks for that, but not quite the specifics I was looking for. Interesting imagery about dropping to knees, etc., tho. I'm sure it'll get somebody's fanboy hackles up, but it doesn't actually contribute anything to the discussion about the quality of online gaming.

Definitely cool sh1t, but a "rendering comparison" - not in real-time. They mention it took 8 sec. to render each frame in the first example, but no such number given for the latter.

(P.S. - The plane was in really poor taste.)

Uh-oh. I hear Betamax, Jr. crying again in the living room. Gimme a sec.

And here's how the HD-DVD marketing scam works:

1) Dump players on the market for a widely-trumpeted bargain-basement price.

2) Give away huge quantities of free movies yourself (hey, that doesn't have to stop you from whining that your big brother does it).

3) Make up some meaningless ...

That's another thing I genuinely do not understand - the constant refrain that "PSN sucks". And I really don't want to encourage a flame tangent, but it would actually be helpful to get a better idea of what people are referring to specifically when they say this, if there's a concrete example.

I've seen a bit of both systems' online (not Wii yet, tho), but all my online playing is on PSN. What exactly do people find sucky? The system isn't "unified", so ...

I don´t know the XBL service very well, so excuse my ignorance. But I don´t understand the comments about it not being a closed system. I mean, haven´t developers expressed their disappointment at not being able to offer content to users cheap or free, and that Microsoft gets to set the price for everything sold on it? Haven't companies including Epic made it sound like they've got serious problems with Microsoft's reluctance to allow user-generated content? Is it possible ...

Some people have an odd idea of what "censorship" means. It does not mean that there can't be at least SOME internet sites that are moderated, so that innuendo, hearsay, and deliberate falsehoods are not instantly spread, repeated, and exaggerated to the point of being widely accepted as fact.

The New York Times is unlikely to print a story based on what some guy said about his game console encountering a problem. Why? Are they a bastion of censorship? Or do they ...

"I think this site has a serious problem on its hands."

Correct. The problem is that hate-trolls like you are allowed to post whatever you want, with whatever false or misleading title you want, without any sort of filtering or editorial review. And when people respond to your provocation, and call you out on it, your little item gets to the top of the page, so everybody reads it and your intended mission is accomplished. It cheapens the site overall, and makes it ...

Hey, he's back! Trawling the internet, looking for anything he can spin to anti-PS3.

What happened, dude, have you run out of ideas? That last one didn't work out so well, did it? You know, the one where you were caught reviving a year-old item about some knock-off gadget made in China, and trying to present it as something new about a "PS3 phone that plays Microsoft and Nintendo software".

Desperation time. The 360 defect rate has shown no signs of...

Does anybody know of a videogame news site that sticks to, you know, news?

N4G has gone the way of next-gen.biz and joystiq. Anybody gets to cross-post anything, misrepresent it, and stick whatever title they want to on it. "PS3 users hate Blu-ray"; "PS3 install base only 2 million!"; "Microsoft is neutral in the HD format war!"; "PS3 Phone runs Microsoft software and Nintendo games!"

There's something to be said for &q...

Who the hell lets people post crap like this, and why isn't it immediately removed? If you want to present results from a poll, then great. But WTF with the editorializing, and characterizing 84% as somehow a negative?

Damn, the Xbox/HD-DVD crowd is getting way beyond desperate with their spin. What's the adoption rate of HD-DVD on the 360, for comparison? Ten percent?

Now that's the right spirit. Just enjoy whatever you decided to buy, and let the chips fall where they may.

And in a year or so when you're able to pick up loads of HD-DVD movies at flea markets and clearance sales super-cheap, you can be quite satisfied knowing all the money you saved.

1. Maybe. And to claim otherwise is useless speculation, just as this is a useless question.
2. Probably. All I need is one HD format. If it's the same one for movies and games, then this simply makes sense. But wishing for this alternate universe isn't going to make it happen for ya.
3. Yes. Well done. Most HD-DVD supporters can't seem to wrap their heads around this inconvenient truth. Instead they'd rather focus on red herrings. Blu-ray has far more players, and fa...

Why is it that the Xbox crowd feels the pathological need to jump into every discussion of HD formats, and try changing the subject? If you have any data or well-reasoned argument as to how HD-DVD is going to stage this dramatic turnaround, we're all waiting. The OP was about some fairly objective industry sales data, not which game console gives you the most private pleasure down there.

Why do you think there's a format war to begin with? Hint: Microsoft. Sony had lined u...

I'm not sure what the interesting tidbit is. That news was out several days ago. The point of the Nielsen numbers is that BD continues to sell far more movies than HD-DVD, IN SPITE OF going-out-of-business-sale prices on HD-DVD players.

What, you mean another "reviewer" has sacrificed all credibility in order to take an over-the-top swipe at the PS3? Why not, it's all the rage these days, and there's plenty of room on the bandwagon.

One wonders why the same sort of language isn't used more often to describe games like Mass Effect, with its frame rate issues and long load times. Or just about anything on the Wii, where every flaw is given a free pass as having "nothing to do with gameplay&q...

"Why I prefer HD DVD? Because it making a whole on Sony's pockets"

Interesting, that you don't care which one wins...as long as it isn't Blu-ray. And this deep-seated hatred for all things Sony comes from where, exactly? Did you have a Walkman break on you or something? Just curious why someone would side with Microsoft and Toshiba out of pure company loyalty, regardless of the actual merits of their products.

I love how they keep desperately clinging to meaningless numbers.

"We sold more dedicated players, in a black case, on a Thursday between 7 and 9 a.m., in Springfield Missouri, than Blu-ray did. We win!"

Enough already, it's getting a little pathetic. The world has spoken, and despite Bill Gates' infusion of massive amounts of cash, this is going to be one format that he can't control.

Die, Bride of Betamax, die!

The article you linked to indicates that the Cell is already being manufactured at 65nm, with the RSX following soon. And it's generally expected that both will eventually move to a 45nm process, though that's certainly not soon. Your title is confusing/misleading. (P.S. I think you mean "die", not "dye".
