Seriously, is this the best that HD-DVD supporters can come up with at this point?
A link to:
a) An Australian internet site
b) that doesn't mention where this supposed "research" was done (Australia, maybe?)
c) that doesn't even mention what the sample size was, let alone a margin of error or methodology
d) and doesn't provide a link to the supposed source for this "research".
Pathetic. Nice post there, Hydrolex; ...
First, I agree completely with the sentiment about every article on N4G degenerating into the same old off-topic flamefest.
So let's try to establish some facts here:
(1) What are the ways in which MS points can be acquired, and how many involve a credit card company? Can't you use a debit card online and bypass credit card fees?
(2) When you buy points cards at retail, can't you buy with cash, check, or other means not involving a credit card?
(3) Even if...
Oh this is RRRRRrrrrrrrich! Not to get drawn into that tangent, but people love to talk shyte about Sony for "lying". This one is an instant classic!
"If we do this in bulk, we don't have to burden the consumer with the transaction fees".
Such mastery of the art of B.S.! Never mind for the moment that just about every website and brick-n-mortar store on the PLANET has managed to figure out how to work with credit card companies, and vario...
Oh I get it.
Step 1: DISCOUNT the PS3 entirely as a Blu-ray player, so that you can claim to have sold more "standalone" players.
Step 2: COUNT the PS3 when you calculate "attach rate", so that you can again claim that HD-DVD sells more.
Yes, you can have it both ways!
^^^^^
Correct. Some of us called this correctly a couple of years ago.
Everything else was secondary to getting to market first. A not-yet-ready HD format; proper design engineering & testing; build quality; etc.
There was sowing, and now there's some reaping goin' on.
Hey Swiney, enough already with getting your buddies to post links to your site on N4G. That's seriously like the sixth one this week. The original BusinessWeek article is sufficient, we don't need you continuously cross-posting here to drive traffic to your little site so that you can hawk your "predictions" "newsletter". No one cares about your website, or your predict-everything-and-eventua lly-get-something-right spam.
Mmmkay? 'preciate it.
X360 owners can thank us later - even the extreme haters. The PS3 XMB is fast becoming the most elegant, capable gaming OS ever. Go ahead and rag if you must, but this is getting harder to deny each day.
And when the competition is forced to stop nickel-n-diming for stuff like themes, and to allow user-generated content when pressured by UT3 & LittleBigPlanet, and perhaps stop charging for online completely when pressured by Home, thanks will be due. Everybody wins with ...
Rainbow 6, Vegas 2
Rainbow wins!
I'm speechless. Yet another member of the HD-DVD dead-enders club, feigning impartiality before launching into the same old disinformation-fest.
The formula:
(1) Try to present yourself as a fair and balanced observer: use phrases like "I have tried hard to steer clear of marketing mumbo jumbo on both sides, and examine real issues".
(2) Use language at every turn that belies your impartiality, and makes your agenda clear, but offer nothing to substanti...
This guy "Swanni" is a self-important joke, spamming himself everywhere, and he seems to have discovered N4G with a vengeance this week.
And @3: "If you look at his track record he has predicted correctly some things"
Well hell, even I can predict "some" things correctly, if I make enough predictions. Like here:
http://www.tvpredictions.co......
"both Blu-ray and HD DVD high-def discs will be around for years to come"
Thanks for that, Captain Obvious. No one's saying that all HD-DVD discs will spontaneously combust when the last player is manufactured, and the last movie is released. Of course the DISCS will be around for years to come. Just as 8-track tapes and even wax cylinders can still be found. As far as actually being able to buy NEW content on HD-DVD or players for "years to come", that'...
I'm not sure I follow the logic here. In fact, I'm quite sure that I don't follow it.
"...we'll have to decide which conspiracy theory we're backing here. The one where MS backs HD Dvd because they get constant paybacks from every player sold and every disc sold (via the VC-1 licensing)..."
VC-1 is supported by both formats. How does this support the conclusion that Microsoft backs HD-DVD because of VC-1?
"...MS stands to make mone...
That's just one more example where the Ars writer does a disservice to readers, apparently in an attempt to discredit Bay's claims (and supposed sources). By trivializing his account with the term "conspiracy theory", she succeeds in getting just this reaction out of people. One can only wonder what her agenda is with such characterizations, and the other ill-founded statements in the article.
There is no conspiracy theory, merely differing versions of events, based...
This Ars piece is a long way from a "debunking" of Bay's claims. The author is merely substituting their own speculation, with even less substantial (or even logical) support.
"...the constant back-and-forth isn't doing any good for either format". Exactly. Microsoft could end this today if they announced support for Blu-ray, or even halting their support of HD-DVD. They certainly wouldn't be losing any money from HD-DVD add-on sales.
The ...
"...when you can have HDdvd and a ultimate gaming system like the xbox 360."
Why would anyone even mention the terms "HD-DVD" and "ultimate gaming system" in the same sentence? One doesn't have anything to do with the other, given the fact that the 360 will NEVER have games on HD-DVD; it's stuck with plain old DVD for its entire life cycle.
Oh yeah, that's right, one could buy the rather unattractive HD-DVD strap-on unit for the 360...
Hahahaha!
"There's my yacht. That's for me and all my homeb... women!"
Isn't ANYONE managing to make it thru basic high school English anymore, much less study journalism, before they decide they're a writer?
As you can see by all the confused comments above, Susanne Ault completely muddles the issue she's writing about, by not including basic information such as "where"? Which is probably why she's writing for videobusiness.com, whatever that is.
Hey Suze, maybe you should familiarize yourself with the subject you're wri...
Hey man, thanks for clearly identifying this one as a knock-off in your title.
Lesson learned, good job.
Ok, that's fair enough. I already said that, while I've seen a bit of XBL on other ppl's systems, I'm not completely familiar with it (no, I don't own a 360). I'm also not trying to perpetuate a "mine's-great-yours-sucks " debate, since that's been done to death.
I was just trying to get to the bottom of some of the characterizations I hear repeatedly about PS3 online gaming sucking. Maybe people have the agenda of trying to make it sound inferior in order to shape...
guerojose predicts that Phillip Swann, "President" (and sole employee) of some no-name website, will continue to spam N4G and every other website and blog he can, hoping to drive traffic to his little site, and maybe make a buck.
"Swanni" (a.k.a. "minor speech impediment"), is predicted to continue to make useless "predictions" of events generally considered likely to occur, on the premise that if you make enough "predictions",...
