It makes a lot of sense to release the 250GB system bundled with a AAA title. I'm pretty sure the marginal cost increase to Sony would be < $100; therefore, they could be making a few extra bucks (or losing a few less bucks) on these systems. It would help the bottom line, even if it doesn't sell like gangbusters.
Regarding the price point, it's apparent that for a large segment of the public, a low price point is king. For those folks, they know they can get a system for $...
What an incredibly empty piece of fluff. They make the clam that this can definitely be done, yet can't offer even a single hypothetical approach that would work.
"Of course it can be done; somebody just needs to figure out how."
Wow, thanks for that. You could say the same for nuclear fusion, interstellar travel, and a reliable 360 design.
But, fair enough, skepticism suspended until somebody shows us something that works.
I'm willing to resist the temptation to call this thing smoke-n-mirrors, destined to fall far short of the promises, until they show something more substantial and give people access under less strictly controlled conditions. However, this one made me do a double-take:
"With no actual gun peripheral surely it would be easy to point a gun but how would you pull the trigger? Again our investigation was met with positive results. Natal will be able to detect the movement of a ...
Heh-heh, looks like he's completely removed the page, along with all of the comments that were pointing out the multiple fails in his little article. Guess it was just a bit too embarrassing. Hope he's not emotionally scarred for life, or something, but the internets can be cruel.
Wrong. "September worldwide sales" is more like it. The focus on NPD gives you only about a third of the big picture.
Gee, this doesn't seem a little desperate. Good luck with that "glut" of AAA titles on the 360 this year.
Hey man, just repeating some of the silly statements that we've all seen for the past couple of years, that attempt to explain away the downsides of DVD. Just looking for clarification on what the preferred argument-du-jour is, that's all.
(I understand if sarcasm is lost on some folks, 'sokay)
It's been obvious to me for a long time that multi-player and open world games are where DVD is going to fall down. Say what you will about disc swapping not being a big deal, but you simply can't have a multi-player or open world game which doesn't fit on one disc (or a mandatory HDD install).
"Okay, fireteam Delta let's move out! Wait, hold on a sec., I've gotta load the other DVD to get the other weapons I want and the special armor I unlocked." Or: "Okay, ev...
Isn't it obvious? Not everyone HAS a HDD for installs, and games can't be optimized just for YOU. Hence, the problem with a fractured user base and no standard HDD. I don't think any developer in their right mind would want to put out a game that instantly excludes X % of the potential customer base. Shouldn't be that hard to understand.
Help me out guys, which argument are we using now?
"No game is going to be more than 8 GB, unless it's all cut scenes and fluff. With magical compression, any game can fit on a DVD."
"Swapping discs isn't a problem at all. In fact, I love pausing a game to swap discs."
"Well, this game is gonna suck anyway."
"Blu-ray is more like Blu-gay".
I just wanna be consistent, so we can present a...
LMAO at all these crap articles. I can almost hear the frantic calls coming out of Redmond this week: "Xbox shadow army, assemble! We need as many spin pieces as we can get out there pronto! Call all our friends at Forbes, Cnet, the PC press, whoever we can get. Let's use the same playbook as before, and spin this price drop into a negative somehow. The sheep have shown us before, this works!"
Now all we need is all these jokers to post another article in a few mo...
Correction: He hasn't PLAYED anything. He's supposedly HEARD about glitches that happen on the PS3, but apparently not on the everybody-knows-is-perfect-and -problem-free Xbox.
That's his entire argument: (1) system sales are down, so price drops won't improve sales, (2) somebody told me that the system has graphical glitches.
Brilliant :|
So if the various rumors turn out to be true, we could be seeing:
1) A redesigned, slimmer PS3, at a significantly cheaper price point.
2) The return of PS2 compatibility thru Cell/RSX emulation, which is a very big deal to some.
3) A true flagship title like GT5 - perhaps even a special bundle with the new system?
If all this comes to pass, it sure looks like a pretty compelling product. A PS3Slim bundle with GT5, or U2:AT, could be a very smart way ...
I like this guy, he's got b@lls. I like his b@lls.
Sorry, but if HHG wants to be taken at all seriously, he needs to brush up on his actual writing skills. I'm not getting picky about the occasional typo, but some of these sentences are just so muddled and impossible to understand, they really reflect a lack of clarity of thought.
"For a while now gamers, game developers, and game publishers has been screaming at Sony for a price drop, even though the cut has been cut already by $200 the combination of this economy and mass...
Again, that's just opinion. And as others have pointed out, in terms of actual resolution, you can make the case that the leap to BD is actually larger than the leap from VHS to DVD.
I'm not going to presume to know your age, but I can remember many of these same statements being made around the time DVD was being introduced; that it was just another new format being forced on consumers, that only offered marginally better viewing.
I hear what you're saying, but it's really not that simple. Shareholders may tend to focus more on profit/loss than revenue, while surely every business would love continuous growth of revenue AND profit. But in a down economy, I don't think you could spin this as pure bad news for MS, especially when compared to their competitors in this sector. I'm sure MS is far more concerned about their (first ever) revenue decline for the whole company.
"SONYs win is a insignificant hollow victory..."
Oh, come on now, that's just silly. Toshiba and Microsoft would be dancing with glee if they were currently in the position of having to suffer such a "hollow" victory. Go ahead and speculate all you want about what will or might happen, but it remains just opinion and speculation. One cannot deny the fact that what has ACTUALLY happened so far is that BD has started to bring in an awful lot of money, continu...
Yeah, I'll post pictures of my cat. I'm sure everyone reading N4G really cares, and there aren't lots of other sites for that kinda stuff.
