Thanks for that! I thought I'd been playing and enjoying similar Bioware games for years but now your post has made me realise the folly of my ways!
You just have to learn how to filter things and moderate your own expectations. And with the internet we've all got more than one source for information nowadays.
And if there are two things to remember about using the internet then;
1. no-one is obliged to tell you the truth.
2. every commercial site needs to make money to exist.
Sorry, but if you expect all critics in any field (be it games, music, films, cars, cheese, etc) to be totally beyond reproach, you're incredibly naive.
Rather than going on a witch-hunt for those who you may have doubts about, whether its their ethics or political views, put you energy into finding those where you have common ground and respect.
Two of my problems with #gamergates methods are;
1. They're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Just because t...
I think that the main negatives are that a racer built around online connectivity has limitations in single player and a European-centric rosta of cars from a European developer says to me the game can't be too bad.
I agree with the article, and I don't think you can automatically assume that because one consoles resolution is usually higher then it must have been deliberately lowered in this case.
It could also be, they started off with the resolution locked and are using any extra power to improve performance in other ways - ways which may improve gameplay more than just definition.
Remember we're still relatively early in the console cycle, and with AC games coming out yearly I...
I was under the impression it was Sony that determined whether a game could include a platinum trophy.
Sketchy_Galore must be the happiest kid in the world..
"Seriously though, do these girls really think we should be discussing menstruation more frequently?"
By the sound of the interview, just an acknowledgement and a little bit of empathy would suffice.
No, it clearly states that the survey was in regard to peoples' habits over the previous year.
I'd assume the reason you'd make the association with someone playing Pac-man in the 80s is if someone had led you to that conclusion with a carefully worded video.
They don't need to cater for a strictly female audience. They just need to represent them better.
And rather than have the majority of female characters being dumb window dressing, actually make them interesting and give them agency.
I don't think most people would suggest it's an either or situation. More that, in a lot of the situations that AS brings up in her video on tropes there's not any real reason for them to be there other than the obvious. ...
So, the nub of this video is, video games can't be sexist because the majority of the audience (at AAA level) is still male...
so, developers should only develop games to fulfill that criteria. So, games will continue to only cater to men. At what point should I insert the phrase, self-fulfilling prophecy ?
As a gamer, I want to play as many new and varied games as I can. From the video here and the one by AS, one is asking devs to approach things in new ...
I'm confused. Apparently, she was never the subject of hate and this is all to give herself more attention.
So unimportant is she that someone has written an article lambasting her article and then posted it on here as 'NEWS'...
When you're investing millions of pounds on a project, you're going to cater for the largest possible audience you can. If that means you 'sell out' to the core audience, then that's a risk you take.
As the proportion of gamers that are female increases, any publisher that wants to grow has to acknowledge it.
That doesn't mean massively altering games to appease SJWs, but rather creating experiences which are not going to alienate a potential new fanbas...
I'd add;
Virtue's last reward and Danganronpa.
They're a bit time consuming in places but there's nothing too difficult.
Though I would suggest not looking too deeply into the trophies on the first play-through so as not to avoid the stories.
Yeah, I'd suggest it was more that stores, knowing it was the hot thing right now, would be using it as a loss-leader rather than a fire sale 2 days after launch.
You'd have to be a pretty poor retailer to be thinking about clearing stock when you've not even had one full weeks sales.
I'd suggest it's more to do with it being the first iteration on this gen of console for a mid-tier game which wouldn't have a massive budget behind it. And the missing modes are simply due to them not having sufficient development time to get it all down - hence some features coming in the next couple of months.
The 'problem' with NHL 15 is in part due to the previous games being so good.
Or it's just a way to let the overwhelming majority of devs know that the overwhelming majority of gamers appreciate their ability to do such awesome things within our chosen hobby.
I doubt anyone thought it'd change a thing, or would expect it to, but it's just nice to read something positive for a change.
The thing is, dev. for new games is getting longer and more expensive.
TLOU remaster doing so well probably means Naughty dog have got a little more leeway to finish Uncharted as they want, rather than having to rush it out to pay the bills.
'greedy' - def. having an excessive desire or appetite.
Looking at the recent layoffs, studio closures and earnings reports, I'd suggest the companies are more interested in just getting by.
And while we're on the subject. If a person or company wants money from you to pay for something they've produced, it doesn't make them evil, greedy, corrupt, etc.
If they're asking more than you think it's worth, then spend your h...
I'm confused...
Either you're telling me she didn't work on the other two Dragon Age games - which she's credited as doing.
or that I didn't enjoy them - which I thought I did..
hmm..
I really am baffled...
