Well, technically, they started the 'gamers are over' articles, seeing as the word 'dead' doesn't appear anywhere in the title or main body of the article.

If you go back and reread the article dispassionately ( bear in mind that Gamasutra is predominantly an industry site, so its writing to those making the games rather than playing them ) and you may see that what it's actually saying is to be aware that the gaming audience is more diverse than ever ...

Although I'm sure they were hoping to make Bloodborne a game which was easy, had poor level design and a naff story, you never know, they might take your advice and try to aim a bit higher...
As for legendary items, I'm fairly certain the preset classes in the alpha were purely there so players were able to try it with different styles. The inference being that the main game would be closer to the Souls games level progression.

I think most places got sent the Xbox version for review;

To those whose reading comprehension is a little lacking (or saw the link was to Polygon...) the article was just observing that there's a potentially interesting topic for a game that's not been explored.
They didn't say 'there's no mothers in games', in fact they gave better examples than the ones that have been listed in these comments so far. They just suggested it's a storyline which could be developed into an interesting plotline.

I could see a teaser trailer or similar being shown at the awards followed with 'see more tomorrow at the PS experience.'

Maybe, just maybe, some people actually enjoyed it. Personally, I thought it was rushed and there were plenty of flaws, but I still played through it three times and enjoyed every minute of it.

11:52AM As a final note, the DirecTV stage with Mike Morhaime as a guest confirms he was speaking out against GamerGate during the introductions of the opening ceremony. The group is mentioned by name.

It was looking to the indies that started all this BS. Months of fuss and bluster because some bloke possibly knew a dev, before he wrote an article about them that no-one read, about a game that no-one played (and is free).

" "The fact that you can even slightly claim it was /created/ to fight corruption is bizarre"

Are you joking? "

Yet your response to mixelons comment, which was a criticism of GG in general, was to go on a rant about sexism as you see it portrayed by the media.
Then, lower down, there's a rant from Dragonknight about 'SJWs'.
If 'ethics in games journalism' is the be all and end all of gamergate, how come...

Except the point of the 'gamers are dead' articles is that you aren't the only demographic that matters any more, and in order for games to grow you've got to accept that.
From a financial view, games can't keep growing with increasing development costs if they focus entirely on a small portion of their potential market. If you don't want to either pay higher prices for games, or expect more dlc, etc then you've got to get more people to pay for them in the...

She cites one source, a college study. And then used it to show that the audience of video games is predominantly male. That doesn't explain if games are sexist or not.
And if you were going to extrapolate anything from that, it'd be that they appeal more to men. Couple that with additional data she tweeted later suggesting that their had been growth in video games, with male participation growing at a faster rate than that for female, and it would suggest the gaming environme...

Come on cgoodno, she answered it, and she said numbers and stuff as well, and it was what 'I' wanted to here, what else do you want ?
An actual reasoned argument, theories, conclusions, evidence ?
Why should she bother with any of that when she's got a nice patronising motherly tone ? She's not going to let nasty women and sjws take away MY games!!1!

There's already decent gaming news about, but sites like this mean it's getting marginalised rather than championed.
Because, no matter how much they complain, people love click-bait headlines. So, rather than go to a site such as Edge-onine where there's an interesting in-depth interview with some industry luminary, they'll go to the site that's lifted a quote out of it and made a story out of that.
Or, instead of reading an interesting article about how t...

To start with he claims that what gamergate is trying to achieve is going to happen anyway - which begs the question, why bother with gamergate.

How would the changed landscape prevent corruption ? Any mainstream media outlet covering games wouldn't be able to give it the depth the specialist press do. If anything you'd get less informed opinion and more regurgitation of press releases.
Other than those sites, what else do you have?

Shh, you do realise the entire western news media is in the pocket of a couple of indie devs and a handful of journalists. And they're so powerful they're in control of major news outlets, devs who have spoken out (for instance; a Scottish games network - which includes GTA devs Rockstar North among its number, or an online petition signed by numerous members of Avalanche (Madmax), DICE, etc) and notable celebs from gaming culture such as Seth Rogen, Joss Whedon, Wil Wheaton, Dara O&#...

It's not my stereotype of gamers. It's a stereotype of gamers that a lot of us would like to get away from. And with the makeup of the gaming landscape improving and becoming more diverse, some people chose to write articles saying how much its changed and how the old stereotype is 'dead'.

And why do no actual sites give you the time of day?
Is it because of a worldwide conspiracy being led by a couple of female indie devs fluttering their eyelashes. Do you really think they're that powerful ?
Or is it because they've looked at the evidence Gamergate has provided, examined it, and come to the conclusion that there's nothing of consequence there. And, when you realise the 'proof' is so flimsy, you ask yourself so what is maintaining the moment...
