This is satire, right ?
I can remember that time the chess community was up in arms after that Columbo episode where the killer was a grandmaster and... oh wait, no i didn't because no-one cared because it's an effing TV show.
Sheesh, for a community which is always quick to tell the world it can clearly distinguish between fiction and reality when it comes to violence in games, to suddenly gets its britches in a twist because some benign program doesn't portray them as saints is a bit m...
they are - within the law.
people are also allowed to not like what they don't like.
So it sounds like, basically, it's a pretty terrible game where the devs are trying to cover up their incompetence by being 'edgy' - hoping they kick up some fuss and get the 'cool kids' to buy it to spite the 'SJWs'.
"Freddie Starr ate my hamster"
"Aliens turned our son into a fish finger"
"World War 2 bomber found on the moon"
"Ghost of Jacko bummed my monkey"
'Clickbait' in various forms has been around for years. It's not going away. Getting worked up about it is just an exercise in futility.
First headline was the Sun, the others from the, sadly missed, Sport.
Such a shame. He always sounded like a fantastic guy on the podcasts I heard him on.
@OrangePowerz
Then how are EG, Polygon or whoever else marking down games for SJW reasons, if the publishers are blackmailing them to give high scores?
@rainslacker
Sorry ?! Are you implying there's no bias is 'proper journalism' ? I suggest you read the same story from a variety of different sources and compare the different ways they subtly, or otherwise, imbue it with their own bias. Even those who try to attempt to stay impartial and objective, s...
"That seems like an intentionally one-sided comparison, sir."
Yep. I was exaggerating to prove a point. If someone writing for say IGN puts out something wrong, it reflects on them, their boss, the site, etc. Not only is there bad press, but possible legal implications, too. That's why stuff gets vetted.
It isn't necessary for a small youtube outfit to show the same diligence. If they get it wrong, all that's likely to happen is the video gets pu...
@OrangePowerz
Or they want sites which agree with their own set of agendas and bias.
@sweetSWAGGER
Why do you assume youtubers are somehow more reliable than traditional websites? If anything, due to smaller size, there's less accountability or need for transparency.
Would you trust someone who has worked their way through the industry, and whose work is usually vetted by at least one other person before it's published ?
Or, do you trus...
So, do you want all gaming sites to vanish in favour of only getting information directly from publishers or do you just want the sites who have opinions you disagree with to disappear?
I can't say either option sounds particularly healthy to me.
And considering the bump in traffic Polygon has received over the last few months, I doubt they're going away very soon.
If this tabloid-esque bulls*** is being approved, then it'd be remiss not to point out PCGamer has already addressed the matter;

"Our Executive Editor Tyler Wilde met his partner while both were working at Future US. She went on to take a job writing for Ubisoft’s blog. It was subsequently decided to remove Tyler from reviewing Ubisoft games. What we oug...
-The issue they addressed was the lack of disclosure on some articles he'd written. The actual relationship was public knowledge (heck, I live half way across the world, never worked in the industry, never met them and yet I knew over a year ago) and no-one has provided any evidence that any article he'd written was influenced by the relationship.
-But if that 'information' is nothing more than conjecture and out-right lies then you're bordering on defamat...
"a reviewer who has reviewed games from said publisher."
If you're referring to the PCG/Ubi thing, where is the review ? Oh, right, there wasn't one because as stated in the note on PCgamer, everyone involved had already taken the relevant precautions.
So, no, all his reviews aren't 'tainted' because no-one has produced any evidence that the relationship has had any effect on his output.
In other words, you're arguing that we ...
4. Not enough pre-orders/interest/budgets run out, so publishers put out what they've got to try and cut their losses.
Ultimately, the review should be an opinion of the authors time with the game. You got to be honest and own it.
If issues come up later then stick a note onto the review. It'd be more honest to say something along the lines of, 'look, this is my opinion of the game I played but I think it'd prudent to mention this which you may factor into your purchasing decision.'
Otherwise, come your next review, the reader might well ask, 'Is this valid, or are you goin...
That sort of misrepresents what actually happened.
Adam Orth, basically resigned for being rude to MS customers. The actual policies he was commenting on with 'deal with it' were still present at the Xboxone launch and E3 later that year.
In other words, it was only when MS were getting negative feedback on their actual policies and product rather than the personal drama did anything change.
I don't see how this stops articles criticising console ...
edit: nvm.
I'd presume it's because it's a perfect example of the tabloid-esque drama-mongering that he's just spent a blog writing about.
I must admit to being in two minds when I first read the blog, but after a bit of consideration it's probably the most sensible course of action. As displayed in these comments, people are taking it far too personally.
It's a shame because there is a good discussion to be had, but this probably isn't the place to do it.
But, as I've said for a while, Gamergates biggest legacy is creating an atmosphere where reasoned debate and proper discussion is frowned upon ...
Erm.. so, you wrote this blog because you disagree with the stereotype that gamers are basement-dwelling sociopaths with limited social skills.
You do realise that the Leigh Alexander article you alluded to was arguing the same point. That gamers are a diverse bunch and it's not in the interests of those making games to focus so heavily on the outdated steretype.
