You talk about 'instant gratification' as if they're giving Sony a list of demands. From what I've read it's a list of suggestions.
And if you're unsure as to the reasons behind some of them, then maybe reading the thread might enlighten you.
For instance;
"- Purchase and management of PS Vita downloads through the PS4 Store

Why? That's what your Vita is for. "

Currently, I use my PS3 to buy and do...

For several years we've been hearing that JRPGs are in decline, and that part of the reason is the battle systems they use.
Knowing this, do people really expect Squeenix to pump millions into developing FFVII on the hope that it can recoup its costs purely from those nostalgiac for a twenty year old game ?
It has to do something more to attract an audience than just polish the graphics if it's not to usurp its older brothers' tag of 'most returned game in hist...

The complaints against the lad sound a little too reminiscent of those aimed at rock'n'roll, the beatles, punk, horror movies, oh, and video games. In that, this 'thing' is new to me and I can't see the value or appreciate it, therefore it must be bad.
You know what, the 'youth' coped fine with the other things, and I doubt a chap goofing about and making a few kids laugh will do any lasting damage to the fabric of our society.

FFVII is probably so far out that even Squeenix haven't decided with any certainty what other platforms it'll come to, other than PS4.
And it wouldn't surprise me if we've seen another Tomb Raider game by then, making this particular pi***ng contest even more irrelevant.

It depends if the reviewer actually encountered any of the glitches or deemed them to be particularly notable. If they don't perceive them to be that much of a problem, then like gameplay, graphics, and everything else about the review, that's their opinion. It's worse to say, 'I played this game and had loads of fun with it, it played ok for me, but I'm not going to give it the score I feel it deserves because some other people had a different experience.'

The game's more than six months away, do folks really think they've nailed down the resolution now?

Sorry, but you're the one who implied there should be an equivalance between Anita being honoured for her body of work, which is widely respected in the industry, and a hypothetical scenario involving someone who has had serious allegations made against him.

And yes, there is, and has been, ample oppurtunity for people to air the other side of the issue, because that's been the overwhelming side we've been hearing for years. There have been plenty of stories of wo...

So, you're basically making up arguments now.
Please, do point out where Anita has said all games, those that make them and those that play them are sexist.

Actually, forget that, because if you're seriously going to try and make an analogy between a person criticising tropes in video games and someone accused of several counts of serious sexual assault, then I'm done here.

Firstly, you're working off the supposition that the 'side' that GDC did represent is the belief the industry and those that play games are sexist. That is a wild leap from what the bulk of the rhetoric has been - which has been;
a, trying to promote womens' involvment in the industry.
b, getting devs to recognise that some of the tropes they use could be alienating a significant chunk of their potential market before they even start.
c, people using h...

Just like people using market forces to excuse sexist games, you can do the same to GDC. That there was so much focus on games being inclusive, especially towards women, is because people want to talk about it, and hear about it.
If someone had wanted to host a talk to give a 'voice' to the other side, I'm sure they could have. Though I'm not sure how many people would've turned up to a talk called 'Get these girls away from my toys' (or possibly something ...

I don't think either of our responses were particularly defensive.
I'd suggest mine was more of a flippant response to your suggestion of replacing QTEs with complex combos, and that in most situations where QTEs are used, such a replacement wouldn't be suitable.
E.g. In God of war, you use more complicated combos during the battling, then the QTE kicks in so you can feel badass as you finish the opponent off.

And I thought Uth11's was just a ...

And how would you convey those 'complex controller sequences' that are only going to be used a limited amount of time?
Maybe, by putting an icon on the screen representing each button as it needs to be pressed?

Aren't moves in fighting games basically just an advanced form of QTE, i.e. you have to press certain buttons in a set order within a certain amount of time to get the 'right' result.

Interesting read, here's my view on some of the things you bought up;
- As with your dress analogy, people can have differing views depending on context, perception, experience, etc. And they can be wildly differing, but none of them necessarily need to be wrong.
Different people will have different criteria of what makes a good game or not. For example, some may overlook gameplay flaws if the story is compelling, and for others, if the frame rate isn't up to snuff, th...

Sorry, but if you're going to start slurring an entire industry, you'd better have some evidence and be prepared to back it up by naming names.
Otherwise, you're laying yourself open to be accused of making up sh*t for hits - i.e. basically what you're accusing the other sites of doing.

And in the atmosphere at present, it's not hard to write an article suggesting you saw some brown paper bags being passed about and have people take it on face valu...

Dev walks onto stage at E3, 'So, here's the next instalment in our multi-million selling franchise, but it'll probably not be that much different to the last one. In fact, considering the amount of time between now and when it's supposed to release, I doubt we'll get it all done in time. You might as well buy something else instead.'

yeah, not going to happen.

She's responsible for inventing the stereotype ?!
So, even though, as you've already stated, it's an old stereotype, even though gamers have had a PR problem since the 80s, the root cause can be traced to a blog entry on a specialist industry site by someone unheard of by the general public less than six months ago ?

It seems the fundamental point you keep missing is that LA never accused ALL gamers of being toxic or whatever. She accused a small subset, ...

What she was saying is there's a noisy minority of 'gamers' who are giving the majority a bad name, and that the term 'gamer' is being sullied by them. So that when people hear someone describe themselves as one, they associate the term with the obnoxious behaviour you see in comments sections of gaming sites or in online multiplayer games. Or, of kids who resort to doxxing, ddosing, swatting, etc, when things don't go there way.
