He discusses the Wii in exactly that light.

@ Ghost of Sparta

Umm...the article I read DID talk about the exclusives in a different light....did you read it?

I really am sorry to hear that Sticky Date...
It would be a terrible feeling, especially near an 'expensive' season, to be facing that and wondering where you have to go next.

I'm glad you were saved :)

I wonder what the effects of all this will be on the kind and number of games we see.

Will we see less AAA titles and a return to one or two with a couple B games, or will we see only a few AAA titles and no risk-taking at all? Will this last amazing Christmas period with all these great games be a thing of the past for a few years?

I'm worried for smaller developers who may struggle to find publishers now.

It seems strange that at a time when people te...

PLEASE make Eternal Darkness 2! Or a modern remake of the original?

Just make it BEFORE experimenting again with Too Human Two....

Yeah but someone will only buy it if they think that there still is a market for a playful shooter (rather than all the serious ones out now) and though Bethesda did a good job of Fallout, will the next group do the Timeplitters brand justice...or try to trade on the name?

I don't know. I want another classic Timesplitters; I'm getting sick of all the shooters that seem so similar.

Ummm I'll miss Timesplitters 4. Both these companies have made great games, they have just struggled this gen. I still think they could have made something special.

This is definitely a worrying trend. I would prefer to see these companies picked up by big powers like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision to stay alive, but they are probably counting the numbers too...

Look at the end of Need For Speed: EA canned it (probably because there are too many street-racers around these days and they kept making one every year).

I think you are right. Haze really did kill them...they don't have the support of a big named publisher like Ubisoft or EA or Activision to cushion any failure for them.

I think they were working 'freelance' and that means though you tend to have more freedom, you have no direct support in bad times.

The whole Haze debacle definitely heralded the beginning of the end. A game like that, PS3 exclusive OR NOT, would have caused any studio not under a big publisher b...

They have already said (if you check the article) that they won't do another Haze (thank goodness) or Timesplitters (sob).

Quote from article:
"they were setting up a new company, sort of a new label for the game, to avoid the associations with TimeSplitters and Haze.”

Hopefully they do come up with something not so serious and lots of fun though.

From what I've seen, if you go as far as having administrators take over and lose half your staff, your company ends up sold off for spare parts to try and recoup cash pretty quick. Or just goes bankrupt once they've tried to sell it off.

It may 'run' for a little while, but you need big $$ to keep going in this industry.

It would surprise me greatly if Free Radical or Timesplitters 4 survived.

For me, Goldeneye on N64 and Timesplitters 2 have had the most play time with fun and laughter with mates and family over any game since.

Timesplitters may not have ever been groundbreaking or GOTY material, but it was fun, fast, and social.

If this is the end of Timesplitters then we are left with serious shooters and I hope someone tries to be satirical and fun with all the same ingredients: humour, bots, pace, locations, and great art.

There are way too many open-world racers set in the USA already. Burnout now going that way too just makes it too crowded. Plus releasing a game a year is bound to bore even the most avid Need For Speed fan.

OOOO that sucks. I hope they fix it up before I play...even if it is 'not a glitch' it isn't fun gameplay...

I'm sick of warehouses in games....

Oh well, game still looks good.

I think that it could go either way: some people may not buy due to the recession, but others will turn to in-house entertainment and eat out less, go out less, travel less etc. Those people may buy more games than before to keep entertained.

I love the grenade that attracts all the zombies and then blows them up! I can see how it would get repetitive, but it's good fun in smaller stints.

Yeah...they left it a bit late didn't they. What about the Argonauts game? I think they should have bumped it until next year....
