What they'll do is include an internal list (called a White List) of all the previous games that use the old key and the new SKU can run any games on the white list. That's what they did with the PSP3000, at least that's my understanding anyways.
I basically came here to comment on the same thing. Picross 3D is the best puzzle game of 2010 and one of the greatest to come along in quite some time. Far better than Puzzle Quest 2, are you kidding me?
I don't like any of the Puzzle Quest games and agree that Professor Layton is better and even Super Scribblenauts.
Yeah, when it comes to making a buck or screwing the gamers, EA takes the buck every time.
1. They are the first to offer DLC giving online players an advantage over those that don't purchase the DLC.
2. They are the first to add a $10 online pass to their games.
3. They are one of the first to shut down online servers after 2 years or less. Particularly offensive if you're paying for Xbox Live.
4. They buy licens...
I'm against pirating too but I'm *very* excited about this. Anyways, there's no reason to install this CFW since it doesn't really do anything useful. He just released it to show that it can be done and to teach others how to do it. It will be a little while before any cool CFW is ready.
@Citizen_King
No problem.. why would I disagree with someone asking a question?
@joeorc
He didn't ask about the user agreement, he asked if it was legal - and it is. Also, your windows analogy doesn't work: First, you can't distribute modified windows code any more than you can distribute modified Sony code. Second, there are plenty of programs available that modify windows itself and they too are perfectly legal. You just can't distribute code...
I agree with you (see the counter?) but that's not saying much since I didn't care for Killzone 2 that much. Also confess to being somewhat of an Insomniac fanboy and liked Resistance 1 better than R2.
KaKaRoTo did NOT use a linux enabled ps3 as this article incorrectly states. He used an application on a linux pc to extract files from a ps3.
Also, I laugh at the following: A funny part of this has been the people saying, “Sony and all the developers did this to themselves. The games are too expensive and they were just taunting us by adding an OS function to begin with.”
Haha, no one is saying any of that. They say things that use some of the same words...

You can mess around with the code all you want since it's your console. What's illegal is to distribute any of Sony's code. That's why this release uses a tool that copies Sony's code from your own console and mixes it with the tweaks he wrote to create a modified CFW.
This is awesome! We knew it was possible already but to see it running like this just makes it clear how real it really is. Not only are we going to have OtherOS back but now without the pesky hypervisor policing our code. This is just the beginning my friends... we are in for some good times. The PS3 just became the best console ever made.
All you haters remind me of my grandfather when the internet started becoming popular. All he could see were the negative possibilities. ...
@DarthRevan, I believe they removed linux from the PS3 slim (and phats) for the same reason they removed PS2 software emulation from the 80gb PS3: Because if customers are not running the PS3 they are not buying PS3 software. Simple as that.
1) The hackers who actually broke the security didn't hack the PS3 until OtherOS was removed.
2) Yes, Sony can and did remove the feature. Yes, the hackers can and will put it back.
3) These hackers are not pirates or thieves. They aren't interested in piracy whatsoever. Hacking is NOT equal to piracy - there's a huge difference.
The hackers who actually broke the PS3's security said “We only started looking at the PS3 after OtherOS was killed.” So it certainly wouldn't have happened from them.
That's the whole point. Sony makes you choose to only run linux or only use it for games, but not both. When it was first sold you could run either one and not have to choose.
Good. Always thought it was funny when people describe video games as work. But when you're replaying and collecting on a long mission due to New Vegas crashing on you... it certainly feels like work!
How long does it take? I ask because I've rebooted the game a few times when the loading screen seemed to hang. I'm talking > 2 minutes. Does it actually finish loading?
My biggest fear of Home is that I'll accidentally click on it when I mean to go to the Playstation Store.
We don't know yet since they typically take 12-18 months to fail. Though it's unlikely a redesigned console would have the same problems.
Force Feedback wheels are highly recommended for all simulation racing games and Gran Turismo is particularly good. Also, consider switching to manual gears if you don't use them already. Gives you much better control entering and exiting turns and makes you faster once you get used to it.
@RBLAZE1988
Good analogy except that it's actually a locked room in your own home that you've paid for, not some other guys house.
