Hehe, this made me giggle. 'Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy' is another pretty good contender.
It's really rare that games actually make me cry (although To the Moon really got to me). When I think about this, I wonder at why this should be the case. Games literally force you to take control of characters, dropping the player into their shoes, yet it's rare that we get deeply emotional despite the amount of investment we put in. I guess most games want to leave us with a happy or thought provoking message instead of a sad one.
Nice list (I love Journey's soundtrack) but felt like top 5 really didn't cover it, as there are so many fantastic gaming soundtracks. Perhaps top composers would have covered more ground.
Enjoyed the range of games talked about here. Nice to see Horizon Zero Dawn on the list, I'm also really excited for the game and can't wait for more information on it.
Really enjoyed reading this list. I'm both ashamed and amused to admit that I've done most of them time and time again. Genuinely made me laugh out loud a few times.
Nice to see a survival game with story elements, gives an extra reason to keep going. It does look like the game needs something more to help it stand out from the crowd, but with a solid dev team, perhaps they will implement this in the future.
Would be nice to have a bit more of an idea of the story/plot but the concept seems interesting and I'm definatly intrigued by the game.
Nice list with some good points. Always interesting to consider how some of the older franchises would fare if they came out now. Today's gaming would probably look pretty different if Mario, Zelda and Pokemon hadn't come out when they did.
It's clear that different difficulty levels are required so as many people can get enjoyment from a game as possible. Certain franchises have certainly 'dumbed down' over the years to match with 'what the players want' but there are plenty of games dedicated to giving a serious challenge.
So many games have a 'ermm what?' moment. Glad to know I'm not the only one who stops and stares at the screen in confusion for a moment before moving on. Nice list, it made me smile.
Quite a few there that I'm going to have to check out. I think The Binding of Issac:Rebirth, Don't Starve, and Pokémon, are the games that not only take up many of my hours but that I keep revisiting. Whenever I want to kill a bit of time or I'm not sure what to play I usually end up picking one of those three.
Personal favourites are the films that came from Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton. Both are faithful to the styles and are just good fun (especially since the Phoenix Wright film is live-action).
Certainly agree that Indie games deserve people's attention. Indie developers make the games they want to play and put all of their time and passion into the project. AAA companies are more into making things they think others want to play, while thinking passionately about the profits. Both have their great games, and 'shouldn't have been released yet' games. Essentially, it's nice to see that independently made games are beginning to get a bit more respect from the gamin...
I agree that many big titles don't get the criticism that they deserve, or get way more attention than they need. It is also difficult for indie developers who are expected to give the standard of a AAA company. That being said, when AAA companies and franchises muck up, everyone knows about it, just look at Assassins Creed Unity or the recent Batman PC problems.
Good concept, but it would have been nice to have in-depth details about each game and what makes them specifically a good horror game. Comparisons with horror games that don't work (and why) would also have been a nice touch.
It's always sad to see games coming out for consoles that you don't own (I don't have a PS4 or XboxOne) but these newer consoles have been out for a good year now and are deserving of the latest titles. Companies have to make the shift from old to new at some point, and this timing seems about right. Before they perfect the VR tech, they are moving people to their new consoles that can handle it, thus not asking people to buy both the headset and 'newer console' at the sam...
Certainly interesting food for thought here. You just have to look at the recent Nintendo Championship to see how much enjoyment people can get from watching others battle it out through games. I would not be surprised if gaming matches started to appear on our tv screens again. It's mainly up against social norms - most members of the public are not used to just watching others play games and may wonder where the excitment would come from.
I agree that the LEGO games often have one or two difficult puzzle elements that seem out of place. In general, they're great feel good games due to their cute graphics, and the ability to smash everything in sight.
I think the announcement of the Pip-Boy got one of the biggest cheers at E3. It's great to see the gadgets in games being made and hope that more companies do this in the future.
Love RPGs, especially JRPGs and I also have never finished a Final Fantasy game. Nice to see I'm not the only one. :)
