So MS are only allowed to work on games right now in gamer's/gaming media eyes? That's one perspective I guess.
Microsoft has the resources to work on the XB OS, music, movies, TV, and games so I don't see why it is risky. It is not like they are cancelling game projects to make this happen.
It is only risky in the eyes of anti-MS fanboys who take every announcement MS makes and spins it as one or more of the following:
1) MS is...
All F2P really is:
- Grind for eternity to play for free
- Microtransactions to skip the grind to eternity
- Subscribe to one game every month to keep the network up
- Experience a ton of advertising while playing
All are marketing deceptions. Anyone who thinks games or networks are F2P are clueless.
I don't think 360 was favored over PS3... Nor do I think PS4 is favored over X1.
With PS3 it was just much harder to develop for cell and the SDKs weren't great for the first few years. Once SDKs improved and people understood cell, PS3 games were on par with 360.
Same can be said this generation. X1 is harder to develop for so what we are seeing is that devts are learning the console. In a couple of years we may see the same as last generation. ...
I'm not sure I care too much. I like the odd indie game. But all we have really seen is a bunch of indie games ported to consoles from PC land. There has been almost no original or new indie content on consoles.
I want new and original content, not a bunch of games ported from other platforms.
Halo 4 was in 2012... (And not by Bungie)
Destiny built from the ground up in 2014 using knowledge they have from making Halo since 2005...
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which game should be better.
I really like Bungie. As I see the videos of Destiny I keep thinking that this is Halo with the creative freedom they get from doing a new IP. To me that is good...
This generation will start being known as the "Recycled Generation".
Recycled indie games from the PC, Tomb Raider recycled, Rayman Legends recycled, Last of Us recycled, Mass Effect recycled, Flower recycled, Fl0w recycled, Halo Spartan Assault recycled, GTA V recycled, etc.
While I am not against this there have only been a hand full of next gen games from the first party vendors... And outside of Deadrising 3 third party vendors have yet to shi...

wtf? it was a financial quarterly earnings report not a video game conference.
they are just trying to give investors information to explain revenues and potential revenue opportunities. people using x1 at least 5 hrs a day average can be video, music, tv, or games... all are opportunities for direct and indirect revenue.

Any business owner will tell you they would rather own stock in a company that is profitable than the number one company who is not.

Now a days I think a lot of things are skewed.
First, exclusives... To me, this word is extremely dumb now. By definition (Game that ships only on one platform) Sony always will have more exclusives because Microsoft is willing to have potential exclusives on both PC and XB whereas Sony never publishes their "exclusives" outside of the PS platform.
Second, games are often repackaged and shipped on new platforms or HD or definitive editions. Flowe...

I think this is speculative.
Last generation is a perfect example. PS3 games early in the gen were often much less quality than 360 games...
But, as the generation progressed on and the devts started to learn more about how to use the PS3 architecture and there was a shift. By the end Last of Us was then pinnacle game of the generation.
I'm not saying X1 will win, I am just stating that people are "speculating" rather than foc...
