There's no time to lose, THERE ARE RPGS TO PLAY!!!
CRank: 5Score: 81370

I respectfully disagree. I'm old enough to remember a time when there where these things called "killer apps" and you simply had to pick up a console at launch to play it. And you played it long after - during the drought that always comes after launch.

NES: Super Mario Bros
Genesis: Altered Beast
SNES Super Mario World
Saturn: Panzer Dragoon
PS1: Ridge Racer
N64: Super Mario 64
Dreamcast: SoulCalibur, Power Stone ...

Once you have tasted the fruit of knowledge, you can never go back to just playing Xbox. Its easy to be complacent and just "Jump in" whenever Microsoft tells you to. They have advertisements everywhere. The marketing budget for Xbone is ridiculous.

Its so much harder to compare system specs, company policies and make informed decisions. Thats why so many people payed for Xbox Live for 7 years without knowing that online play is free for every other console and has...

It seems like lately everyone is accusing everyone of smugness and arrogant fanboyism. Console fanboys against PC fanboys. Xbox fanboys against Sony fanboys and vice versa. Even omnigamers like myself have been accused of too much arrogance.

Look, I know for a fact that PC gaming has better graphics, indy games, mods and control. But if I ever dare state that fact, it makes me look like a PC fanboy. I think too many people have inferiority complexes. Why else would saying &qu...

So let me get this straight: the guy who made this video claims Omnigamers own and play less games than single platform owners and also claims that us omnigamers are inferior to fanboys because we aren't devoted enough. That about right?

I personally own over 3,000 games, many are complete in box and I have been playing something like 25 or so games so far this year but I'm somehow less of a gamer because I don't submit to only one company and give all my loyalty ...

I kinda figured the necessity of console exclusives are self evident. I mean, each console developer creates their own unique environment and the competition between them is what continues to drive innovation in the industry.

And to put it bluntly, whether they are necessary or not is irrelevant because these huge companies got profits to generate... and profit's not gonna generate itself. No matter what we think, these companies are gonna keep making exclusives.

There is a solution for this dilemma and even mentioning this word can get me HUGE NEGATIVE BUBBLES but here goes:

It's called *whispers* Omnigaming... and its awesome.

It's really simple and cost effective if you do it right:

At the beginning of any given console generation you just choose the console that seems most appealing to you and buy that. Last gen, I chose the PS2 over the Dreamcast, Xbox and GameCube.

The...

Honestly, I never thought Jack Thompson was much of a threat to my owning violent video games. He was just some blow hard screaming in the wind, unable to change anything. Now that he is disbarred, he is even less threatening.

Leland Yee and Hillary Clinton on the other hand actually have real power to restrict the sale of violent video games and I'm honestly surprised at how ignorant most gamers are about the threat those two pose.

The original Silpheed is ONLY on Sega CD. You have Silpheed: the Lost Planet on PS2, which is the sequel to that awesome game.

If you stack the Genesis against the SNES, I think the SNES comes out on top...

BUT!!!!

If you stack the the Genesis w/ Sega CD against the SNES, Sega dominates.

Here's why:

Final Fight CD is the best version of final fight on consoles. Oh and Genesis has Streets of Rage, which is better anyway.
Ecco 1 & 2 are best on Sega CD.
Lunar 1 & 2 destroy most of the SNES RPGs.
Snatcher is the singl...

I agree with the author. Next gen gaming looks increasingly bleak. Nowadays, I mostly game on PC because indy titles are the only ones giving me what I crave: originality and innovation.

I can afford to buy all three next gen machines, but I don't think I will. At least not for a while. At least not until I see a killer app worth playing. "X" on The Wii U looks pretty good and so does FF XV on PS4. But those games probably won't be out for years and they ma...

Great blog!

And I'd like to take this moment to proudly extend my middle finger to Anita Sarkeesian.

,,l,, Anita ,,l,,

Go fuck yourself.

We're don't care about your self righteous crusade to not be offended, ever. It turns out that life is full of little injustices and I don't have time to listen to your bitching about them. I can think of a hundred other things I'd rather do... like playing videogames!

Honestly all of the above stated complaints are small issues in the long term. The real issue - and one this blog neglected to mention - is the lack of a killer app. You mention a few good upcoming titles (and the just released Pikmin 3). But it has almost been a year and the closest thing the Wii U has to a killer app is New Super Mario Bros U and Pikmin 3.

That is a serious problem. Potentially fatal, even. In it's first year:

Dreamcast had Soulcalibur,...

M$ said the same damn thing in 2005 but they dropped the original Xbox like it was hot and moved all their projects to the 360.

And seeing how they haven't been supporting the 360 much in the last 3 years, I'm calling bull$hit on this.

What they mean to say is "our Xbox 360 game servers will be up for another 3 years. After that, all your multiplayer games stop working."

I'm sorry to say I did finish XIII and I simply can't understand what happened to this series. There are so many JRPGS that have outclassed Final Fantasy in the last 12 years:

Xenoblade Chronicles
Lost Odyssey
Ni no Kuni
Tales of
Dragon Quest
Dark Cloud
Rogue Galaxy
Radiant Historia
and tons of other handheld JRPGS

I mean Level 5 alone makes more awesome JRPGS per year than SquareEnix. Th...

To me Final Fantasy has a LOT to prove.

I grew up playing IV and VI on the SNES and I loved VII as well but VIII was just plain awful with its terrible battle system and ridiculous story. But I wasn't gonna bail on the series yet. Square deserved a second chance and I'm glad I stuck with them because IX and X were amazing and totally restored my faith in the series.

I hate MMO games so XI and XIV were immediately unappealing to me and judging by my ...

While I enjoyed reading your blog and agree with many of your thoughts, I have to say that as soon as I read: "I sadly have not been able to play FO and FO2", I immediately stopped caring about your opinions.

Fallout 1 and 2 are everything fallout is. Fallout 3 and NV are dumbed down, casual fallout games for the console kiddies. Commenting on where fallout should go when you haven't played Fallout 1&2 is like only playing Zelda Skyward Sword and thinking y...

I seriously can't believe COD has been outselling Battlefield up until now. I mean all COD does is copy Battlefield's innovations. In 2007 when everyone was freaking out about COD4, I had been unlocking new weapons and equipment and playing in 64 player maps in BF2 for 2 and a half years!

Why was COD4 (or any COD for that matter) so popular? The only thing COD has that BF didn't was a single player campaign and no one plays them more than once anyway!

Dude, you may not be accurately remembering what 90's fanboyism was like...

There was blood in the streets over which version of Aladdin or Sparkster was better. There was viscous name calling all over the playgrounds over your allegiances to Lord Sonic or King Mario. There was hate mail flooding reviewers mailboxes over a better score for Streets of Rage than for Final Fight.

It was apocalyptic compared to the relative tameness of today and "which...
