It's just IPTV, nothing really new here. I believe MS already tried this and gave up on it, which is why they went the cable box route.
Yes this is true, I have this issue on my PS3, as it is a US PS3, and I'm in the UK. It is also the case with DVD movies, although with them it is fairly quick and easy to rip to a computer and watch as a video file on PS3.
It WILL happen. Just wait and see, they are only saying this to try and save face, but it will happen. It's just like when immersion was suing Sony regarding rumble, and Sony said rumble was pointless. They didn't believe it, they had to say it so they could actually sell SixAxis controllers. Same thing with this.
My prediction, Kinect-less SKU available within the first year of launch.
So they said 21 markets, and they're down to 14 simultaneous, and that doesn't even include Japan. It's not going to win them any fans. However, at least they're committed to US and the big European countries, as they are the countries with the highest Xbox fanbase.
I'm not being funny or trying to troll here or anything, but how exactly does a brick stop overheating? The 360 had a brick, and had a shitload of RROD problems. The brick being external made no difference, unless having the PSU internal would have made the 360 explode immediately.
They use a brick for three reasons. 1, smaller console. 2, easier to sell the console in countries with different voltages, as only the power wire/brick needs to be changed, and nothing needs t...
@Funantic - I've had my 360 plugged into a surge protector for years, that is just a myth imo. It does nothing harmful.
They already confirmed it was a "behind closed doors" event a while ago. Which immediately suggests to gamers that they don't have much to show and are hoping that the journalists will be good to them.
Either that or they're going to be showing major prototype games for years down the line.
What they should do is cut the price by $180 to keep the 180 tradition alive.
@Septic & Alpha - Problem is, people will vote with their wallets, and if the console sells badly compared to PS4, they will have a choice to make. Either cut price, and swallow a loss of $100+ per console and Kinect sold, or remove Kinect from the box. The only reason they're making it non-mandatory in the first place is because it is a half-measure to try and entice sales. It proves more and more that the rumours of the preorders are true.
Given the choice, they WIL...
Kinect-less SKU incoming, guaranteed. Might not be available at launch, but definitely next by the end of next year.
@darth - People who play fighting games regularly know that dpads are better. People who don't play them regularly, think the sticks are better. Simple.
It's like me saying dpad is better for FPS movement, it's just not true.
I like that they spent so much on improving the controller, because it shows that they actually care about it, and not only about Kinect. I don't like how they say "Over 40" improvements, and they're things like "a light bar under a button".
Nintendo and Sony could say the same thing, and it would be true. Nintendo's even moreso as their main controller is totally different to the Wii's
@darth - Batteries are the most annoying thing to find in my house, there are NEVER enough of them. It's not convenient at all if you have no batteries in sight. However, I never used batteries on my 360 controller, what type of battery life could you get, say from a standard Energizer battery? I'm talking in hours, would really like an answer, truthfully.
On topic - Good to see, although didn't really feel any wireless issues on 360. Only time I had an issue was ...
Sega is really stupid sometimes, they're backing the wrong horse in Japan. It's Sony all the way there for console, handhelds are a different matter. Not even in the top 20 probably means it sold less than 3 or 4,000 copies.
Thing with GamesCom and TGS is that because the shows are smaller, MS and Nintendo hardly ever make any effort to do anything. Then when they want to announce something, they're ready to spend big on it. The consumer notices that you don't care about them the rest of the time, so they should always always exhibit, even if they're showing the same things again. Like Nintendo with E3, stupid decision to not do a conference.
@nuke - You missed the point entirely. Read the last sentence of my previous post again.
People don't care about reselling games, IF THE GAMES ARE CHEAPER to begin with. And Steam offers huge discounts in comparison to retail at times. I'm not a huge Steam gamer, but from what I've used of it, it is very good, and it gives you a reason why you don't care about reselling games.
In the original Xbone policy, you could "gift" your used ...
@nuke - You forgot Price and Marketing, and also Exclusive Content (because content alone is not enough) from your list. Truth is, there are a lot of factors that make a difference to how well something does. Sony is doing well in a lot of areas, but I have no doubt that MS will have very good advertising for the Xbone considering how well they pushed the Xbox 360. Only difference this time around is that it looks like Sony's advertising agency might also do a good job.

Oh God, the "Steam" argument again lol. It is NOTHING like Steam. Xbone was going to charge users full $60 for both disc based and digital games, and take away the private resale rights from consumers for physical media. It would have pushed up the price of used games, and essentially meant that you could only buy a few games in the cycle.
Steam is completely different, it's fully digital and offers game for half the price of retail in some cases, and has regula...
Why does it take anything away from single player? Because the developer has to spend 6 months on tacked on co-op or multiplayer that could have been used to polish singleplayer. Although as long as the single player campaign is good, I don't really care.
It's almost as if he's getting paid to do it....
MS paying people to write positive Xbox things on social networks, CONFIRMED.
LOL.
