THey already struggle to hit 1080p60 in 2D. Vr needs 1080p60 in 3d minimum, and even then frames must be represented to 90-120fps to avoid motion sickness. This won't end well unless they make it Xbox 1.5 exclusive.
Nintendo didn't pioneer analog control. The Atari 5200 had one, and so did the Genesis/Megadrive (Called the XE-1 AP). Also, adding buttons to a controller isn't innovation, but they can claim being first at shoulder buttons.
The changes Nintendo have introduced have been improvements on existing tech, which other companies then took and improved upon even further. The screen controller was an improvement on Dreamcast tech, for instance. Other than that, Nintendo h...
Sony isn't making any software exclusive to PS4.5 either, so it wouldn't make sense to hold something off. If anything they'd just patch it after the fact to enable enhancements on the new system.
The developer chose to do something different for once, and made a game that catered to their creative vision instead of trying to aim for mass appeal. If you don't like the idea of playing a character that doesn't look like you, first ask yourself why that makes you uncomfortable when you have been assuming the roles of various human and non-human characters all of your video game playing life, and then simply don't play the game. There are thousands upon thousands of other games...
So Remedy wasn't maximizing its capabilities? They were just being lazy?
It isn't just UHD disc compatibility, but also HDMI 2.x, which enables HDR capability at 4K resolution. The current HDMI spec maxes at 4k at 24fps as well, 2.x allows for higher frame rates, color depths, brightness levels, etc. This affects not only just video but games as well, as developers will be able to start designing games that take advantage of the enhanced color and brightness of these new HDR TVs.
There is definitely a visual improvement even in video, but it's only noticeable on larger screens (the color clarity afforded by the extra pixel density does stand out more, however. 4:2:0 4K is almost equivalent to 4:4:4 1080p on smaller sets, effectively).
That said, HDR blows them all away.
4K TVs are already phasing out the 1080p sets, you are seeing more and more shelf space dedicated to them and within 5 years, you won't be able to buy a 1080p set (not a full size one of 40+ inches, at least). Once the HDR TVs start getting more popular, and I think that they will far sooner than 4K due to their far superior image quality, 4K will get much cheaper and 1080p will be phased out.
Comparing multiplayer betas to single player only games?
Imalwaysright is right... Lots of people here don't seem to be able to differentiate first party from second party exclusives. Sony does not own Insomniac or From Software, and no matter how many times you click that disagree button, it won't change that fact.
naruga's comment gets hidden in 3...2...1...
If you remember, we heard rumors of an Xbox hardware upgrade before we started hearing of ps4k. Then we have spencer saying he didn't like the idea recently, so it's hard to tell if this could be an incremental upgrade or just a slim unit.
My bet is, if it isn't the incremental upgrade, the next Xbox won't be as far off as the PlayStation 5 (assuming there is a PS4K).
Gears was one of 360's most visually impressive titles, I'm not sure what you're getting at there... but yes, this looks terrible, even when compared against the last gen games.
Well, other than the color palette, that clip looks pretty terrible from a visual standpoint. Worse than I remember the last gen games looking. That said, we're early on, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
My favorite games this gen have been indies, those guys are free to take more risks and innovate more. As for BC, I understand why technical limitations prevented it in the past, but now that Sony has gone X86, there really isn't any excuse for future playstations to not be bc.
1 was definitely my fave co-op FPS of last gen.
Always loved Insomniac. I wish they'd make another Resistance.
I have a hard time buying their excuses. With some PC hardware configurations being many, MANY times more powerful than an Xbox One, there should be no reasons that doubling the resolution would cause the best PC hardware to lose performance, I don't care how many physics and global illumination techniques you are using. If it can hit 720p on the One, it can double that on a PC.
I think they just got rushed, as the PC port was a last minute decision whenever they realized...
That said, I do imagine that with a GPU 2x as powerful as rumored, there will be some games that do natively render above 1080p before being upscaled to 4k.
HDR makes a bigger difference in picture quality than adding more pixels ever did. Let me explain why:
1. Many HDR TVs are able to output light much brighter (as high as several million nits, whereas a standard TV only outputs around 100), and they can localize that brightness... so for instance a sun shining in an image will appear brighter than the rest of the image. This is actually making game developers have to take new approaches to lighting in their games. For instance...
@deeke Actually, Sony has stated that all games get reprojected to 120hz whether the game renders natively at that framerate or not.
