If they can manage to completely bring down the wall between PC gaming and console gaming, in other words making all PC games run on Xbox and vice versa, as well as them all being on the same network, they can take top spot and stay there.

While it is an improvement over GT6, it does lack compared to more modern racers. I guess Driveclub spoiled me... then again this is 60fps with split screen and VR, so I'm not going to complain too much.

Microsoft is the only company that is in the position to create a living room PC/console hybrid. Anything else would be seen by average joe as another console... one they've never heard of, and with no brand recognition as a result. Microsoft has Xbox, a well known brand, already in living rooms. They also have PC on lockdown, with a near-monopoly status there. So, if they were to promote a powerful console that also was a PC, add in a slick UI that simplifies doing PC tasks in a console ...

Crossfire isn't 100% efficient, however, and that performance will only scale in some applications. There will be some things you do get better performance than the 1080, but other things that the 1080 will be able to do better. In the end, having one card doing something is always going to be the preferred route to go if you can afford to. This is a great way for budget gamers to get high performance, but for people like me, who do things like CG animation, video editing, motion graphics...

Vita wasn't a new technology trend. There weren't other companies all trying to launch their own Vitas. Vita was entering into a well established market that it had to compete against.

VR is a brand new thing, PSVR is said to do it among the best, software support is strong due to competition in the PC space, and (for now) Sony enjoys a VR monopoly in the console space.

I would like to see examples of the tech in action. On paper it sounds interesting, but I want to see it in practice.

All good. PS4 can't keep ALL the good fighting games for itself.

From a power perspective, assuming that the rumored specs for both are even accurate, 6Tflops will give a boost, but how much of a boost remains to be seen. For instance, Xbox 360 claimed to have an amazing Teraflop(!) of computing power at its reveal. At the PS3 reveal, Sony bragged about a mind-boggling TWO teraflops(!!!) of power for PS3. DOUBLE THE POWER! Certainly the game was over for Microsoft, right? As it turned out, most multiplayer games had better graphics on 360 because of PS3...

@pandehz Hard to do, but not impossible. The additional 2 TF would come from a beefier CPU and GPU, and I'm sure AMD has the parts ready to go if Sony chooses. It's not like in the past when they used exotic parts that required a lot of R&D and testing. While somewhat specialized, these parts essentially are variants of off the shelf parts.

That said, unless MS plans on eating a large loss to try to gain market share (a risky move for them, it failed miserably o...

Those are some pretty certain terms you're speaking in when neither has reached final hardware stage, Sony could easily delay Neo to cram more under the hood if they felt Scorpio was a threat, and neither set of specs is confirmed to be true by anybody...

Once in a while we luck out and get competent developers that actually IMPROVE the quality of their graphics (Looking at you, Naughty Dog) from their pre-release trailers, but that's becoming more and more of a rare event.

Some salty Xbox fans in here... you guys act like BC was actually a system seller to begin with. Who cares if it gets cut or not? It wouldn't be the first time, if so. Sony cut it from PS3, MS cut it from 360. It happens. If not, even better.

The one good thing is, both PS4 and Xbox One are forward compatible with the next systems, as they use X86 architecture and that isn't likely to change over the coming generation. So, all the games you have today will be easily...

It could be said they have those kills in there for the sissies who need bonus health, and if you're a real doom player, you don't need to use such a crutch to begin with, so if you don't like them, turn them off and enjoy the added challenge. In my day Doom didn't have bonus health for killing, you just got the warm enjoyment of watching someone get blown to bits, then crushed into a little puddle by a closing door. All you young whippersnappers and your need for health bonus...

Back in the cartridge days, developers were free to use larger cartridges. Some Genesis games used 8MB carts, others (Like Street Fighter 2) were on 32mb carts (if my memory serves me right). So, if the dev wanted to go over 32GB, they probably could, but at a higher expense. If a dev opted for 64gb cards, which more and more would as the cards got cheaper, they could offer a full Blu-Ray of storage space and still have 14gb left over for writing DLC to, etc. (remember, the cards can be writt...

@tap, why such an odd resolution? 4K (the home variant) is 3840x2160, aka 2160p

Cartridges can have faster transfer rates, so less of a need to cache data or install games to the system HDD, can have extra memory on board to enable storing game updates without using up system HDD space, and can be more secure as the security can be wired right into the chips. The only downside is a higher cost per unit on the publisher's end, but the cost of flash media is getting cheaper by the day.

That does not change the fact that the Xbox One has far fewer 1080p60 games, and that on the majority of multiplatform games it runs at lower resolutions or framerates, if not both. So, my point of the Xbox One having to struggle harder to pull off what the PS4 already struggles to do still stands. PS4 barely pulls off VR, so Xbox One is going to struggle even harder. For this reason, I could see VR being limited to the new Xbox One upgrade, if there is one. If not, I'd expect it to come ...
