Sigh* so this article is dated November of last year... If you look at any new posting of Microsoft earnings report clearly show profits for the xbox division http://mobile.extremetech.c...
Or http://ww...
Why would they sell to the people they are directly competing with for "in-house" media. Microsoft WANTS to be in the living, they are using Xbox1 to not just compete against Sony but against Apple, Amazon, to lesser extent Amazon.
And since, mathmatcially Nintendo could buy Sony's Playstation division they could buy the Xbox too...
@hocking are serious right now? Simple mathematics show the Xbox1 is stronger than the PS3... And using GTA5/6, games that were specially built for the PS3, to say because they run better on system they originally built for vs entirely different machine is just ridiculous. That's like saying Ryse would look fantastic and run 1080p/60fps on the PS3. Logic man, logic.
@death I agree, though, Playstation is Sony's most valuable brand at the current moment. If anything they'd probably sell everything else around them and keep movies, music and Playstation to survive. That being said, if Playstation doesn't post monster profits in the next couple of years... then technically anything goes.
@darkride66 it's because I mentioned Xbox and or Microsoft without saying that I hate or they will fail. The disagree fairies are out in force today!
It would take another company making a JRPG that sells a ton and gains wide spread recongition in order for Squarenix to go back to that model. You look at what RE4 did for the Resident Evil franchise or what COD did essentially to every shooter and action game. They need to see where the money is going to come from in order to make the more traditional style Final Fantasy. Who knows though, maybe they'd release a Final Fantasy VII remake and it rakes in so much cash that it makes them ...
It depends on their or Elop's long term goals. I think we can all agree that one, the Xbox1 was rushed, and two, it was built with gaming as a secondary purpose. This by all accounts was to be the machine (trojan horse) that firmly put micrsoft as the media hub to combat Google and Apple. They already stated plans for Xbox TV and movies won't be that far behind. I can't imagine that with all that money already spent they are just going to pull the plug and sell it all off.
The PS4 sold on the higher end of the release spectrum so I'm sure it sold through it's intial stock... I would really like to know why Dreamcast sold so low at launch, there had to be circumstances like low stock or something.
Ok well the guy you're commenting on is comparing the Vita to the Wii U... it's one thing to compare PS4 to the Wii U, or Xbox1, but to compare consoles to handhelds is different. That's like comparing the vita or 3ds to phones... it's not exactly apples to apples.
I already have xbox live gold for a year (expiring I think in october-ish) I still banking on a price drop at E3 though, so I'll probably wait.
That just announced bundle is pretty enticing... $500 is just so much damn money to essentially play one game for the for-seeable future.
I really hope they announce some sort of partnership with Legos at this thing.
If this were truly going to happen, I would "want" it stay Playstation for nostalgic reasons... but if SquareEnix is putting Kingdom Hearts on the Xbox... it will almost for sure go multi-plat.
Shhhhhh, you can't talk about Sony's financial state here. Come on man!
@beastforlifenoob Yeah Excitebike track editor 1985... Mod-nation Racers 2009... so I wouldn't say Mod-nation copied Excitebike, but it's not exactly an original concept, so nice try.
Just because you don't like 2D platformers doesn't mean this game isn't worth the 9s,8s, and 7s it's getting. Not to mention not one reviewer has said this game is simple. If 1st person shooters are your thing... stick to commenting on those.
I look forward to hearing your response... oh wait.
Right, I meant exclusive to a console, which outside of indies is pretty rare.
I believe the creators of ReSpawn and TitanFall and that this game is being published from EA have a lot to do with hype.
Also the fact that it is non-first party exclusive, which these days, draws a lot of attention to it.
Let's face it though, there's plenty of hype in this industry these days; PS4 vs Xb1 and it's sales/tech differences, the Nintendo doom and gloom train, or the rise of tablet/phone gaming. All of these topics draw the attention and controversy,...
You first.
I would love to take a survey at least here in the states that if polled asked random people what company makes the Bravia, Viao, or Expheria I can't imagine many people would know. But if you ask people who makes playstations or even what Sony is known for, I imagine the overwhelming response would be movies and games. So long as Sony is alive they'd keep playstation movies and music. It's probably the direction they're going be forced to go anyways.
