I feel like this was the same sort of setup/rumor we heard about forever with Apple and ended up being... Apple TV with an optional game controller.

@RauL

I think this an "Agree to disagree." But, I did enjoy our intellectual debate/conversation... it's so rare to have one on here.

@RauL
If by recent you mean roughly 12 years ago, then sure a recent addition to the model. But none the less a highly profitable addition to the low margin console performances before hand. Closed eco-systems are fading, that's why Sony, themselves have opened up PS Now to multiple devices and different brands to sell that service. ESports is another rising aspect of video gaming, with these... athletes?... umm lets call them competitors... that don't just want to compete...

I'm actually quite shocked by this to tell you the truth. I mean I could care less between the resolution fidelity loss between docked or portable, I just use mine a ton in portable mode either while traveling, hanging out with the kids in the living while they watch tv, or in bed at night. However, I do, thoroughly, enjoy using the pro controller when docked... that might be one the best controllers I've ever used.

Yeah you're right, her work on the awesome Soul Reaver series, Jak 3, and also a writer to the Uncharted series, should be totally disregarded. That going to wonderful and reputable gaming like EA who has made tons of great single player game decisions of late ... smh.

I hope she gets either picked up or gets the financial support she needs for her new studio. She's definitely a creative force in the industry and hopefully is given a chance to create more games.

It blows my mind that people would argue against a new, cool feature that allows you, the gamer, to do more things... all because someone else is doing it. It's like these kids have indebted themselves with the personal financial gain (there is none) for even the slightest chance (there's not) that their favorite console manufacturer will lose sales. It just never ceases to amaze me.

I actually fully understand how console manufactures make their money. Console revenue contributes a lot to total sales, however is NOT where their profit comes from. It comes from software and subscription models. If you think, for one second, that Sony is concerned that cross-play is going to lose them console revenue, they are absolutely not. Besides, do people buy consoles for exclusives or to strictly play games with their friends? Not to mention Sony takes a cut of all in game purc...

I fail to see how anyone could legitimately paint this as a bad thing.

They definitely have. They setup some manged 3rd party security to help check over and automatically update firmware. That was the basic problem the first time, they were trying to manage their entire network themselves and as it grew they became strained... the whole security breach basically was because of a missed firmware update. But they fixed it and are on par with the other major online network(s).

I mean they've already come out and said they're looking for a solution, so I'm sure they'll do something. They've been put into this position before (rumble, trophies) and came back and did the right thing.

This literally doesn’t make any sense. Why would someone argue against more games? These are (for the most part) ports of current gen games, its not like just an abundance of last gen ports. They’re offering some current gen games... on the go.

I’m all for games tackling social or even political issues. However, there are ways to convey messages/opinions without being... “preachy.” Far Cry 5 narrative just felt too, obvious. Games that make subtle points, or push the understandings/origins of why these opinions or problems exist can be extremely engaging. Besides, politics and the media want to continually blame video games and it’s players for the worlds issues, why not fight back some?

Exactly, Sony didn’t spend the money on PSNow implementation and continually adding software/improvements if they didn’t believe it’s not at least a “part” of the future. Sure there are plenty of the “get off my lawn” group that will continue to deny this future, but as any business person knows, “if you’re not changing, you’re not growing.”

I think we're just about on the cusp of a full streaming future. Stateside, we will see pretty decent advances/progress in terms of internet availability and speed here in the next 10 yrs, of course assuming our government fulfills some of the initiatives we've put in place. 5g, rural broadband, and satellite will finally give people high speed internet they so need and deserve. Then there's the next gen of gamers, some of which have never used nor needed physical media to watc...

But the video gaming industry changes, rapidly if not overnight. Sony has either blazed forth a creative path of their own or used other industry's innovative ideas to move forward. Reportedly Sony did ask Microsoft to open to cross-play last gen, so it's not as if they are totally against the idea. I think Sony, being the current industry leader, as a golden opportunity to turn this idea on expand further upon it. Let's face it, with the quality of games they are releasing, t...

I'm not speaking to loyalty so much as to the actual service (cross-play in this case). Don't confuse loyalty with expectations. Kids will "expect" certain services to be available as they grow older, and I assure cross-play will be one of them.

2903d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

@MorpheusX it's hardly a contradiction when your network services are down for an entire month...

2903d ago 7 agree5 disagreeView comment

I get why Sony is disregarding this cross-play element at the moment, but gaming PR snowballs. Gamer's don't forget and for whatever reason don't forgive. Now is this going effect Sony's PS sales in short run, absolutely not, but if Microsoft and or Nintendo play this feature up, and it's quickly becoming a sought after feature with younger gamers, it could definitely hurt Sony long run. As an older gamer, it doesn't really appeal to me. But watching a kid play For...

Microsoft didn't want to support cross-play with the Playstation for security reasons. Whether that statement was true or not, at the time, it definitely had some weight behind it.
