I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.
All fair points, although the chonkyness of the OG Xbox has its own charm, even though we made of Xbox controllers and their users who preferred it. Really surprised Game Pass wasn't mentioned, considering that was a huge financial sinkhole for Xbox, because people could game on the cheap and not buy physical/digital copies of games.
I also feel that the Activision/Blizzard acquisition is going to be one of the final nails in the coffin for Xbox as a hardware company.
@anast,
A 7-year-old GPU can trade blows with a PS5 in performance, I don't think it's going to be that hard to match/beat the PS5, especially if you look at the second hand market for parts.
I don't mind having a few launchers, just don't make me log into it all the time, it's astounding that some developers still persist with having their own launchers.
Ideally AI should be a force/productivity multiplier for developers, but we know this isn't how it'll be used, it'll be abused to rush games out faster with smaller teams. Ideally, it should give us better, bigger, more complete games, but that won't be what we'll get out of AI.
Somehow, I feel they'll use the AI to make even worse characters/stories, we already have people suspecting Disney started using AI to write their movies.
They should have seen this coming, I think Game Pass was one of the worst things Xbox could have done as a brand, good for the consumer who want to game on the cheap (although you can also argue that it hurts consumers in the long run, seems to be bad for developers unless you're a small indie game, possibly).
I strongly doubt that, they haven't put out a new game for a long time, we've only had remakes of very recent games from Naughty Dog this gen.
I love the Armored Core series, I hope it becomes a regular thing again, like it was back in the PS2 days, we've been starved of AC games for a long time. Although I prefer the gameplay in the PS2 games personally. AC6 was really fun though.
Maybe the next controller can have independent paddles, really surprised they never implemented that with the PS5 controller, seemed like a no brainer.
I actually just play to relax/have fun, get immersed in another world for a while and enjoy the story/characters, who the hell plays to "express themselves"? I can understand how that applies to say Minecraft, where you're actually making things, but I don't think you can apply this to most games.
I already own these collections on PS4, and KH3 burned me badly, so I can wait for a discount before buying the first two collections on Steam. I actually thought they'd never put KH on Steam considering how long it's been.
That is... A lot of consolidation, having said that, I haven't used/trusted those sites in years, but I'm sure this won't be good for the industry or it's customers.
I feel like we haven't had much in the way of horror games for years, I think it became rare after the PS2/PS3 gen. Maybe i'll pick up that Crow Country that recently came out, that looks good.
I would rather they finished off the Half-Life...
They promised us a PS Classic catalogue, so far its selection is underwhelming small, they also let the Vita die off pretty quickly, I wouldn't be quick to jump on this until I see how much commitment they're willing to make.
Even if we did have the technology, imagine how terrible the battery life would be! You'd have to be more tethered to a power outlet than any of the other PC handhelds.
I'm still salty about the proprietary memory card prices, I don't remember those ever getting cheap.
@Skuletor,
Why not? The PS5 plays PS4 games fine (because the tech is similar), one could assume that if Sony is using AMD hardware, then they will probably have native PS4 support.
No, I don't think the technology would be near enough to give us PS5 quality, not unless you're okay with 20 mins battery life (then there's heat dissipation and weight to think of too). I feel like that's the mistakes PC handhelds like Rog Ally, MSI Claw and Lenovo Legion Go make, they over power the Steam Deck, but you pay for it in battery life, I'd rather have more battery life when I'm using a handheld.
To be fair though, with the race to beat ...
I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.
