Nintendo survives on the strength of their first party titles, and I'm fine with that, they put out some great games. I just wish they weren't so stingy and didn't charge an arm and a leg for 5 year old games and ageing hardware.
I couldn't agree more, exclusivity isn't the issue, otherwise no one would have a reason to buy consoles (it's the reason I've only bought a Switch this gen). Its developers not reigning in their costs, the expenditure is so great and sometimes it's hard to see where they spent the money. AAA gaming developer's bad practices are causing the issues.
I'm hoping for Xenoblade Chronicles X port, Zelda Wind Waker/Twillight Princess ports, FF tactics HD announcement/port... I've also heard rumors of F-Zero/Star Fox games, but I feel like people are getting over excited about possible announcements.
I know most people get disappointed with Nintendo Directs, but I've come to enjoy them more than Playstation's/Xbox's shows, even if I'll be buying half these games on PC (probably). Which reminds me, that...
They can just make two versions, although the screen on the Steamdeck OLED has spoilt me.
They don't have an incentive to release it yet, I did hear rumours that they delayed the Switch 2 because the Switch sold better than expected for this point in its life cycle. Plus, they've probably been working on it years ago with the assumption that Switch hardware sales would be dropping off at this point, so they would be choosing hardware, organising supplier contracts, ect... I wouldn't be surprised if they are sitting on the hardware for now, if Midori's leaks are to ...
I hope they keep the original art style instead of going for the hyperrealistic look like they did with FF7R, it would ruin the charm of the game otherwise.
FF7R deviated too much from the original for me, so I hope the FF9 remake is closer to the original game.
I wouldn't mind a PC port even though I own it on PS4, it really doesn't need a remake though.
I think it would only be logical for XBox to do this, why leave out one of their biggest selling features?
The "local" part is worrying, both Sony and Xbox don't need a streaming device (even the Portal isn't that great at its job compared to a phone or Steam Deck, etc..). Then again, making a dedicated Xbox handheld might not be that smart either, they'd have to go against Nintendo and possibly handheld PCs like Steam Deck, Sony made 2 attempts into the handheld space, only to get squeezed out by Nintnedo.
@Just-looken,
Probably not getting that 1...
I've tried, but these types of games are just not for me, I've tried stuff like Overwatch and Valorant and can't enjoy them.
That's what I also wonder, I can't imagine anyone that I would like to replace them at this point, we could just be stuck with Playstation and Nintendo, maybe that's the best possible scenario.
I honestly don't think so, that would make buying consoles redundant, which is why Xbox has almost faded into irrelevancy, it's also why people are sticking with PS4s instead of upgrading to PS5s. I'm sure Sony's dual release of console first release, PC later has also probably hurt them because PC players are willing to wait for games to arrive on their platform of choice. Nintendo and Sony shouldn't follow Xbox's lead, but I can't trust that Sony won't becaus...
@Petebloodonion,
Yes, it's the reason a particular console exists (it's the reason I don't own a PS5 either, just a PC/Switch), so I'll just get the PC versions since they're not exclusives. A lot of these games did not interest me personally, but I'll still pick up Doom: The Dark Ages, Metal Gear and Gears of War, maybe I'll pick up Mecha Break and Age of Mythology Retold on a whim later.
Nintendo controls this space, and they won't easily give it up, as for the handheld PCs, Steam Deck pretty rules the roost, closely followed by something like the Rog Ally. I feel like Nintendo and Steam pretty much have this sector covered, adding Playstation or Xbox to the fray probably won't gain those two any worthwhile market share, especially with the way they operate now.
It also helps that back then, they used very different hardware, today's consoles have very similar internals to each other, especially modern Playstations and Xboxes.
While this is Xbox's best showing in years, I'm just looking at all the games available for PC, quite a few of these games are multi-plats as well.
I'm actually expecting this to happen if they're going to keep remaking classic FF games.
Remember the Nvidia leak list? A lot of those games have come into existence, so I would not be too surprised if it happened.
Those Spiderman 2 development costs are so bloated, I honestly can't see where they spent the money, considering they're building upon the first game and can re-use a lot of assests.
