i disagree about in your post is that the gaming division hasn't been profitable for Sony.
for the past 10 years (before the PS3 started burning a hole in Sony's pockets), the gaming division was damn near the *ONLY thing bringin in profit for Sony.
all the other departments, from Film, to Music, to Electronics, were *NOT making Sony any money.

what i find funny, or maybe irritating, is that when Gears of War was first revealed, we knew absolutely *NOTHING about the game. no idea what the story was (other than it looked to be a futuristic shooter), nothing about the gameplay, or gameplay mechanics. *NOTHING AT ALL.

i've been holding back on buying Blu Ray movies until i had my HDTV (i saw no reason to buy Blu Ray owning only a standard def TV).
now that i have my HDTV, as soon as payday hits, i'm going on a Blu Ray purchasing *FRENZY.
the shop across the street from my house has a deal every weekend, where if you buy 2 Blu Rays. you get a 3rd one *FREE.
this also applies to HD DVD, and used DVDs, and used Blu Rays and HD DVDs.
i plan on picking...

ten reasons why i love my PS3?
in no particular order
1.) it's quiet. this is indeed an issue. my PC makes it impossible for me to watch *ANYTHING. i have to turn it off. my PS3 can be on all night and day, folding at home or whatever, and i barely realise it's on (it's the green and blue light that give it away).
2.) built in Wi Fi. i was going to go for the $500 PS3, but i'm so glad i went with the $600, as the built in Wi Fi is indeed a godsend....
i'm *ALSO more interested in AI (Heavenly Sword), and Storytelling (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune).
see, First, there are also games on the PS3 that put gameplay and presentation before all else also.

if an HD DVD drive was built into the 360, chances are it would still be used for *GAMES, so even if the movie end dried up, the gaming end would still be going solid.
*THAT'S the benefit of the PS3, even if Blu Ray movies went under, the console is still being used for gaming (ie, Stranglehold being bundled with Hard Boiled, and Hideo Kojima's insistance that more disc capacity is needed for MGS4, and that 50gigs may not be enough).

not all of the games are PS3 exclusive (ie, Dark Sector and DMC4, which was exclusive at the time i made this video), but over 90% of the footage is exclusive titles.

i worked at Obsidian Entertainment last year, and i asked Feargus Urquhart if they were working on KOTOR 3, and he said we wouldn't be seeing that until, at the earliest, 2009, as they have a few other projects they're working on (i know what the projects are, but i can't tell you what they are. i will say that they are PS3/360/PC titles, though).
it's funny to me how the PS3 detractors never mention Oblivion during these threads.
that port is a shining example of what a developer can do when they give a rats @ss about their job. it ran smoother than the 360 version, and had a few improved visual quirks over the 360, but god forbid anyone bring *THAT up.
personally, i think Rainbow Six looks good, and not as craptacular as F.E.A.R, and Splinter Cell. i have F.E.A.R. on my PC, and i Gamefly'd it for my PS3 ...
