By next February Nvidia will have launched 3080 (or whatever it will be called) and will also be on 7nm. It's on 12nm right now I think. So AMD will have to come out with something that's faster than a 2080ti to compete for top tier graphics.

Microsoft is not a major part of pc gaming. With the failure of uwp they likely won't become one either. They have to put their games on steam because most pc gamers(not casuals) avoid ms games store. Yes the reason you see them talking about giving pc gamers choices now is because no one wanted to use uwp so they are now allowing win32 games on their store and giving up on uwp

What is the next xbox using for gpu? Unless you know the specs of the next xbox and playstation you have no idea if it will be more powerful. Xbox fans said the same thing before ps4 and xbox one specs were known and you got the xbox 720p
But Playstation sells 3x the amount of games that xbox does. There was an article that said psn made more than xbox and nintendo combined. or something like that. Microsoft is selling games wherever they can because they don't sell enough on xbox
Even on xbox the top played mp games are multiplats. But the ps version has like 2-3 times bigger player base. Fallout 76 is played more than halo on xbox

This isn't a cheap gpu though. Vega 56 and vega 64 were high end desktop gpus, unlike polaris which was not made for high end.

I have a 1080 also. I like that it only takes 1 pci power cord. If you are going to wait until ray tracing and rasterization perform equally you will be using that 1080 for the rest of your life. Ray tracing requires much more power than rasterization so it will always be slower
since xbox got destroyed and no longer competes with playstation
MS gets 30% of all 3rd party games sold on xbox and live subscription fees. Games like COD, madden, used to sell 10+million on 360 every year. PS4 now sells like triple the amount of 3rd party games than xbox. Selling consoles matters to console makers. Live is free on pc.
