"In order to make the economics work and keep Titanfall alive, EA needed a first-party publisher to invest. Xbox was willing to step up and save the project, which turned out to be a wise bet." - http://fauxbuzz.com/2014/04...
To be clear, the only reason I brought this up at all was just to correct fellow user TomShoe that the last...
Who cares? Fanboys do. That really wasn't the point otherwise.
Everyone always lists Gears, Halo and Forza as if that's all Microsoft ever brought to the table. People forget that in the 360's earlier years the diversity was there, the numerous exclusive JRPGs were there.
It was after the projected 5 year lifespan was extended that the portfolio began to stagnate as more was invested in Kinect and the main franchises were just alternated. Even then there was great diversity in great Kinect IPs, however it was for a new market and...
I don't want Microsoft to look at Sony's catalogue and say we need a game like that and then try to ape them. That's not even being competitive, it's just lazy.
I want both Sony and Microsoft to approach IPs with the mindset of setting a new standard somehow, which is what they've both been doing.
Actually the last AAA new IP Microsoft funded that was widely successful was Titanfall.
Ha! I was thinking of the same song just sung by a retardedly funny character. :P

The Wii U could absolutely run Unreal Engine 4, but it's not worth Epic's while to port it over. There's a far bigger userbase across Android and iOS and that's why it was worth their while to make it run on mobile devices.
No offense but one doesn't need an in depth hardware breakdown to understand their reasoning, we know they doesn't see value in the Wii U and it's audience, few publishers do, they just elect to avoid putting so bluntly.

they're busy with rainbow six patriots
@OpieWinston final fantasy aside, last gen, square enix increased the variety and quality in their publishing portfolio substantially. they've put their stamp on too many great game experiences I've had for me to agree that they've just been making bad decisions.
@kiz2694 Technically it's always been possible to make purchases/manage your Xbox Live account from a mobile device with a web browser.
Creating an app means the experience can be expanded and smoother, though I don't think a lack of an app constitutes as lagging behind, we're just placing a lot of value on this trend.
Wow, for a moment I thought this was the South African retailer www.btgames.co.za
Yeah but that's the point the article is making; All these exclusives Sony brings don't actually bring in the numbers.
From a consumer perspective, we love the PS3 for its wide variety of exclusives and the quality that goes into making them. However, from a business perspective they don't do well commercially.
Its sad that Sony does this for the consumers yet not enough consumers open their wallets and say thank you.
The article doesn't discuss the quality of first party games but rather how much they sell and benefit the console.
Gran Turismo 5 sold 10.9 million units I think and Kinect Adventures (which was bundled with every Kinect device) sold 20 million. The comparison is purely numbers and the author notes that, for those who don't think its fair to compare a bundled game, the next title on the list of top sellers for Microsoft would be Halo 4 at 8.9 million.

Titanfall had minimum 3 years in development, that game wasn't rushed. It was a new studio building a new, engine building and a new game- it was badly optimized, not haphazardly put together in an unreasonably short amount of time.
If you open up a studio and get a publisher like EA to fund your game, 3 years is more than reasonable especially considering they're taking on all the financial risk. Any longer and your game just isn't going to earn what it cost t...
I tell you what, if Sakurai and Nintendo are considering adding Snake in Smash Bros., I guarantee they're unlikely to be doing so with as childish and spiteful an attitude as this author seems to think they will.
I doubt Kojima was deliberately insulting the Wii U Gamepad when he said he didn't know what to do with it, but I'd like to know how Smart Glass integration features in Ground Zeroes. Publishers more than developers seem to be flocking to create compan...
This is just typical overexcitement about a developing distribution platform. Discs are cheap to manufacture and as such will still be largely profitable as a platform for distribution for a long, long time.
When digital distribution plateus and becomes as accessible and as profitable as it's generally going to be, physical media will still have a definite reach that digital doesn't, particularly in developing countries where downloading everything is not cost effecti...
It's funny how people always make comparison's to the violence in Inglourious Basterds even though it only has a handful of violent scenes and is far more memorable as a dialogue driven, plot intensive film than an action film.
Guys, this is different from the HDMI thing.
@Pintheshadows Kotaku actually investigated this quite thoroughly and found no solution beyond direct exchange with Sony or the retailer.

All it takes is a little reading sweg. -_-
I think he was just yanking your chain.
Truth is, most people know that the negative news is getting more press than the positive.
Definitely keen to see a gameplay reveal for Star Wars Battlefront but I'm also dying to see at least a cinematic teaser for the new Star Wars game Amy Henning (of Uncharted fame) is working on with Visceral games.
