Motion controls will be what the Wii is remembered for.

Can't say I agree with the main criticism in the article. I don't see the point in complaining over having a simple game mechanic with the only thing that changes from then-on-out being the difficulty. From Pacman to Mario, that's been the hook -- a simple game mechanic with difficulty that ramps up a bit later.

And complaining about the "Wii (fill in the blank)" titles is kinda dumb.

Pretty good score. And about 10 hours of gameplay is pretty good for a rail shooter.

But I'm not sure if I'm happy that EA put the time into making a really good rail shooter, or if I'm more angry that they DIDN'T take the time to make a "proper" third-person Dead Space.

Maybe a rental.

I worry that the game won't reach its full potential, but it looks promising. RE5 was more of an action game instead of a horror game (I know RE4 was very action-oriented, but at least it had spooky moments), and this looks to be the complete opposite. It's all about scares and survival, and that's a very good thing, IMO.

IGN gave it several Wii-specific awards from the last E3: best graphics tech, best adventure game and overall best game of the show.

I went back to play Conduit online this week.

Twilight Princess stole 70 hours of my life.

Galaxy, No More Heroes, World of Goo, Brawl, Metroid Trilogy, TW10, Muramasa, Pro Evo, Kart, MadWorld, HotD:Overkill, Fire Emblem, the best versions of RE4 and Okami...

That reminds me...gotta finish Okami. That's what I'll be playing tonight, at least.

v1c1ous is right.

The PS3 was barely outselling the PS2 two months ago:

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blo...

Of COURSE the Wii's price drop won't generate that type of sales spike; the PS3 had a higher ceiling because it was selling at a lower rate.

I'm with Product on this one. The Wii has already had an HD console undercut its price point for some time now. A console capable of HD graphics has done little to challenge Nintendo's sales. So what does that leave? The blu-ray player on the PS3 as an incentive? I just don't see that as a huge selling point. Techies will eat it up, but most consumers aren't like folks here at N4G. And I say that as someone considering a PS3, to boot.

True, but the other aspect of Nintendo's tradition is that they wait for technology to be relatively affordable before they make any leap (look how long they waited on Gameboy color). HDTV sets were not affordable when the Wii launched, but they are now (and getting cheaper all of the time). In another year or two, economic considerations are going to catch up to technological considerations...big time.

But I wouldn't expect another Big N console 'til 2012. Look at their first...

Wii has sold fine thus far, though, even with the 360 arcade undercutting its price.

Nintendo has been aiming for a wider demographic with motion controls. But all of the willing "impulse buy" people who were there for $250 are pretty much tapped out. Three years on the market at the same price is pretty impressive for a gaming console. This cut is due.

And it makes sense for all three companies, really. We're getting out of a recession; people will slo...

Stupid if you think otherwise? They already had GOTY honors for 2006 and 2007. Wii is capable of GOTY-quality stuff, especially when it's first-party. It's already happened.

Other M, Galaxy 2, a new Zelda and Retro's secret project are proof positive Nintendo isn't only making Wii Sports-type stuff. To use your phrase, it's "stupid if you think otherwise."

Now, third parties? Yeah, there are definite questions there. No third party has made a GOTY-qua...

Spoony -- The last thing I read on COP was this from IGN:

http://ds.ign.com/articles/...

I'm intrigued, but it IS from the same people who made the farce that was Driv3R. And seriously, these people should just put this game in the Driver series; it's not really new IP if you're just renaming the old one. My nostalgia for Driver 2 is almost enough to sell me on this game (while Driv3R is what m...

Aquarius -- That's why I said "almost" unheard of. There have been a few times where Nintendo has delivered on a short schedule (as you said with there only being two years between Zeldas on N64, and two years between Metroid Primes on GC), but that doesn't generally seem to be their standard procedure.

There were 6 years between Mario 64 and Sunshine.
There were 7 years between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
There were 8 years between Super Metroi...

Different strokes for different folks.

I loved Chinatown Wars. One of my favorite games of the year, and a pretty ambitious effort overall. It's the highest-rated DS title on Metacritic, and it's not like it's on a system wanting for good titles (the DS has an enormous library of cool games).

OTOH, I thought MadWorld was overrated by the critics. Awesome visual style and fairly good motion controls aside, it's a 6-hour long old-school brawler at heart. A good one...

I'm no tech expert, but just a cursory search brings up a little discussion at Gamespot on the 128 vs. 256 DS cards:
http://www.gamespot.com/pag...

How many games are using the bigger card? I don't know.

But if we're to believe the conventional wisdom that the DS's power is analogous to a shrunken down N64, then I don't think you could ask for much more from thi...

Definitely looking forward to NMH2. My favorite new IP this gen.

I'd love to see Zelda next year, but a new Mario, new Metroid and new Zelda all in one year? I don't think big N would blow their "big three" in one year. Other M and Galaxy 2 will be there, and I can't wait for them.

But I could see Nintendo bumping Zelda 'til 2011. Plus whatever Retro is working on. That gives them a big one-two punch for each of the next two years.

Then ma...

For a game of that size, though, it probably is. Squishing Liberty City onto the DS -- complete with pedestrian behavior, banter, random car accidents, side jobs, etc. -- with no loads was an achievement. Rock Star put more in that game than I thought possible.

You pay for having that huge open world (unless you jam loads all over the place), regardless of platform. The PS2 certainly had prettier games than GTA, but I don't think any of them were nearly as big as San Andreas. ...

Rental at best.

xabmol -- Galaxy got plenty of GOTY honors, and the year before, Twilight Princess got a few GOTY nods, too.

The amount of talent working on Other M should probably at least put it in the discussion for next year.

As much as I'm looking forward to this game...I'm more interested in finding out what the heck Retro is working on.

I agree with you in part, but it's not that simple (IMO).

You're absolutely correct that it will take time for the new techs from MS/Sony really see their potential fulfilled. Look how long it took for IR/pointer controls to be nailed on Wii (motion controls were always going to be a little off on a first try with a new controller scheme, but pointing a cursor on screen for FPS should've been done at launch).

Natal? I'm hoping for the best. But it does look to be ...

"Actually, I answered differently, and it may have been misinterpreted. What I wanted to say was, looking at the Wii, I think No More Heroes 2 will probably be the last iteration for this current platform. But there's probably going to be a 'Wii 2' or other next-gen system from Nintendo at some point, so I was saying that I would want to do another game in the series on the next Nintendo platform.
I want to continue the No More Heroes series, but I've finished the story for Travis....
