Umm...no Super Metroid? Really?

I guess being the greatest speed run game ever created doesn't count for replayability?

Here's 5 reasons: NSMB, FF:CC, Silent Hill, NFS:Nitro, COD4.

...substitute in Metroid Trilogy or Muramasa as you see fit.

I think you just had a Yoda moment.

Couldn't have said it better.

blackmagic -- Right on.

oobob -- Give it up, man. I've lost count of how many times I've brought up core games for Wii. I think in some other thread we came up with like 40, and that wasn't without even going to metacritic or anything. I doubt most people have played half of 'em, let alone beat 'em. If some folks want to ignore fantastic games, they're missing out.

Thanks for that clip, Mahr. Man, I can't wait for S&P2.

These message board sources seem iffy to me. Big N is notoriously secretive, and I don't think IGN would want an employee posting secrets online.

If it's true...I'm kinda stumped. "A cool idea, just not one that anyone asked for or expected"?

Everyone has been asking for KI, Star Fox and F-Zero from Nintendo. GTA on Wii has been a request for a long, long time. A FF with a very long development time is scheduled for release on Wii in December, so that k...

Lt_Skittles -- What I'd really be interested in is the gunplay in a GTA on Wii. IR/pointer controls would absolutely trump any lock-on scheme Rockstar could come up with.

But the alleged IGN employee says this:

"I was actually excited about it when I first heard what it was, but after more details made it my way, it no longer seemed nearly as appealing. It's still a cool idea, just not one that anyone asked for or expected."

Everyone has wante...

I really hope you're right, but I'm not sure that's gonna be the case.

Nintendo already has Galaxy 2, Other M and Sin and Punishment 2 slated for next year. Kid Icarus and Retro's secret project are possibilities, too. That's a pretty loaded year for them, and who knows what else is in the works? Plus, has there ever been a year when Nintendo put out a proper new Mario, Metroid and Zelda all in the same year?

Since we'll get Mario and Metroid next year, I think it...

Online is the one point I really agree with. Some games are certainly meant to be single player (Zelda, Metroid), but outside of Conduit, there aren't a lot of really good online experiences on Wii. Hopefully MH3 changes that. As much as I really wanna play NSMB, it seems like a HUGE waste that you can't play it online.

As for core games...NMH, MadWorld, HotD, RE, Extraction...I'd call those types of games "mature."
Core to me means a great, challenging game, a...

NMH2 is a first-day purchase for me.

And I'm certainly interested in Galaxy 2, RS2, Gladiator A.D., Grinder and MH3.

But Other M is far and away my biggest must have for next year. I've been playing the hell out of Super Metroid lately, rediscovering just how kickass it is. And I can't wait for a modern take on that style of playing. Don't get me wrong...I'm a Prime junkie, but it's been since 1994 that a console Metroid played out in third person.

"Yes, a new product already flopped when it just came out. -_- "

Well...that's the industry. Everyone seems to focus on launch, first week and first month sales. And nothing else. We see it with a new game every month. "Oh, it didn't launch like Halo, so that means it's a flop." Makes no sense.

The PS3 price drop finally puts it at a competitive market price. I know I'm considering buying one now.

Count me as someone who said "NSMB...why the heck is Nintendo making that their centerpiece this holiday?"

But the more and more I read about it, the better it sounds. This, Silent Hill, FF:CC, the COD4 port...it's actually turning into a decent fall/winter lineup.

480p = fail?

No, not at all. With good component cables, you can see a big difference between progressive scan and standard def.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

With all of the graphic and tech nuts out there, I'd think people would recognize the difference between standard def, enhanced def, and high def. And if you are playing 480i (true standard def), you're definitely not getting ...

"Understood the story"? You were embarrassed to be playing "kiddie" games. That's it. And no, those types of games aren't "all the Wii is now."

Just mentioned in this thread, I count 36 core and mature games on Wii (oobob mentioned a few I forgot), plus another 8 that we know are coming (most in the near future). And I forgot to mention Retro's secret project, so there's another.
Toss 2 more in if you trust HVS with Grinder and Gladiator A....

Agreed.

I was excited for DSE...until I heard it was a rail shooter. Then my mind immediately went back to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think the Wii has a fine selection of core games (Metroid Trilogy, Zelda, NMH, TW10, MadWorld, Muramasa, Fire Emblem, etc. etc. etc.) not geared at anyone but gamers. The last 5 or 6 hours of Prime 3 were an almost religious experience for me.

And I'll honestly take IR/pointer controls for FPS over dual analog any day. The remote/nunchuck is far superior to thumb sticks. Not as good as a mouse/keyboard, but it's the next best th...

Well, you shouldn't play Wii in standard def, either, since it can play in enhanced def 480p (480i is SD). I honestly don't own a flatscreen TV, but I noticed the big difference progressive scan made for Mario Galaxy when I visited some family last year.

Anywho, I'm sure the next Wii will be HD capable. The cost of the technology has caught up to consumers. Most Wal*Marts don't even carry SDTVs anymore.

MattOG711 -- Always wanted Zelda? I mean, it's always been available before on cutting edge, current-gen tech. OoT, MM and WW all pushed the boundaries for their respective consoles. You could even toss Twilight Princess in, as it pushed the GC to its limit.

Sure, the next game isn't likely to be available above 480P. But Zelda has always been there before pushing its respective console (and I have no doubt the next one will push Wii to its breaking point). If you missed out...

Indeed.

Miyamoto's words:

--------
"With both the Wii remote itself and Wii MotionPlus, what we've been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make...
