After playing Conduit, I'm kinda more excited about Gladiator A.D. than Grinder, but that's just me.
Conduit was a nice game, but honestly, I'd still rather play Prime 3. And the COD4 port could seriously one-up HVS for best FPS on Wii. I hope I'm wrong and that Grinder is a great game, but it's kinda hard to out-do L4D when it's got a sequel coming.
It was released on Wii first, though. And it was the top core game to launch with the console; a lot of people waited in line for hours to play Zelda with motion controls (casuals don't do camp outs).
Fanboy bashing is fashionable. Once you're on top, you're the number one target (remember all of the "the PS2 sucks because it's underpowered!" stuff from last gen?).
I'd like to know when a 2D or platform game stopped being "core." I like FPS and sandbox games, too, but it seems like some people play ONLY those games.
NSMB on DS has sold something like 18 million copies, I think. But it hasn't been a seller like Halo or Modern Warfare (games t...
The PS3 or 360 would have to outsell Nintendo by a 2 to 1 margin from here on out to "win" the console war this gen.
There's a bunch of first/second party bullets in Big N's gun, plus their own price cut will inevitably come...and that's after turning a profit on every Wii sold.
Their next move? NSMB this winter. Then Other M, Galaxy 2 and whatever Retro is skunk working next year (maybe debut Motion + Zelda at E3). Toss in a price cut to $199, maybe low...
dkgshiz -- Galaxy, Tiger Woods 10, Twilight Princess, MadWorld, the Prime Trilogy, No More Heroes, World of Goo, SSBB, Little King's Story, Paper Mario, HotD: Overkill, Muramasa, Fire Emblem, both Pro Evos, both Excite racers, Battalion Wars, PunchOut, etc. etc. etc.
...that's all shovelware?
The next Galaxy, Metroid, Zelda, Red Steel, No More Heroes, Silent Hill, FF:CC, Mario Bros...also shovelware?
There is definitely some absolute crap on the Wii via ...
If they make the best controlling version of COD4, that will be something worth at least renting, IMO.
Arius -- That'll be what to watch for the sales hounds. The PS3's leveling off point will have to be double the Wii's sales from here on out to "win" this gen. Even equaling the Wii on a month-to-month basis will be difficult; selling twice that much? When Nintendo now has the last bullet in this price cut war?
We're probably not going to have an accurate gauge for each console's respective sales tracks until after the holiday. But that won't stop fanboyism.
Thom -- I won't doubt that. The Wii isn't selling at the level it was; that was still higher than its competitors two months ago:

Look at how low the PS3 was; it was barely outselling the PS2. Hence no surprise from me when its sales skyrocketed after a price cut that finally made it co...
It's unreal, isn't it?
People are actually surprised by a big sales spike after a LONG overdue price cut?
It's about sustainability and consistency. The PS3 will have to outsell Nintendo by a 2 to 1 margin from here on out to "win" this gen. Any takers on that?
I mean, heck, I'm even considering buying a PS3. It's a great console with great games. But it's hard to catch lightning in a bottle, and then keep it there for month after month. <...
If we're not gonna get F-Zero, this should be the next best thing.
How many times are we going to see Pachter articles on a Wii price cut?
Yes, it will eventually happen. It's an inevitability; all console makers cut the price of their product at some point. Saying it over and over doesn't make you Nostradamus. It just makes you repetitive.
It's all about sustainability and consistency. The Wii has obviously sold consistently, as the article points out.
Will the PS3 do the same? Or is this a one-time sales spike? Or will the the PS3 outsell Nintendo 2 to 1 from here on out to "win" the console war?
No one can say. Especially not from data gained in the immediate aftermath of a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooong overdue price cut.
I'm with Product on this one. Declaring "victory" after a sales spike, occurring after a long, long, looooooooooooong overdue price cut?
Sales-wise, it's going to be tough to catch Nintendo. The Wii caught lightning in a bottle. A sales spike from a price cut isn't predictive of long-term sales. Will people say "Nintendo has obviously won" when they cut the price of the Wii and get a month or two of huge numbers, which will inevitably happen?
(And ye...
...yeah...very upset that payday isn't until next week...this and Muramasa are making me green with envy.
That's an interesting theory.
The lack of a bit of sharpness could be due to adding a layer of bloom on everything.
The water is kinda strange, though. There's actually better lighting (again, probably because of the bloom) around the objects by the water on the Wii version as you're rolling around in morph ball, but the water itself is just dead.
I don't think anyone can chalk this up to laziness, as Retro has been consistently good. I'd be interested...
"About that control scheme; it's a constant puzzle to me that some people still prefer to play 3D shooters with two analog sticks. Honestly, I can't help but suspect that it's just a generational thing. I know a lot of old people who also think that Frank Sinatra was more musically talented than The Beatles, and that has everything to do with the fact that by the time The Beatles hit, these people were too set in their ways to accept anything new. That's the only thing I can think of tha...
Heck, they don't really have to "minimize" the open-world aspect of the game. They just have to freakin' fix it.
Red Steel 2 is looking like a AAA-level title.
That said...the first one was supposed to be the same thing, and ended up a near-disaster...
I am honestly kinda flabbergasted how this collection hasn't gotten more perfect scores. Three triple-A titles for the price of one (with upgraded controls and visuals) get low-to-mid-90's? Eh, maybe I'm too biased about Metroid to be objective.
Maybe a teaser? 'Cause I'd think they would formally debut in-depth stuff on the game at E3. It's pretty much the biggest announcement they can make (outside of announcing a new console).
Won't hold my breath, but I do hope this is true.
