Yeah, COD4 with fully customizable IR/pointer controls could be a problem for me. I mean, I haven't even gotten through the Prime Trilogy. At this point, I just want to do a ton of exploration in those games, not a speed run.

Add in COD4? With the control options of Conduit (I'll pick better control over eye candy any day)? FPS isn't even my favorite type of game, but that could be too good to pass up.

bigjclassic -- There have been some risks, but on Wii they've been hit (NMH) and miss (MadWorld).

I think we may have been spoiled by last gen. Console FPS really came into its own, the sandbox genre exploded, and we still had developers making things like Shadow of the Colossus and Killer 7.

We've had some classics this gen, no doubt. The last few hours of Metroid Prime 3 were an almost religious gaming experience for me, Bioshock kept me up on all nighters, 70 ho...

drummerx2709 -- I only made the comparison because of leeger's remark about Mario being in so many games (and he IS in a ton of mascot games, but not in dedicated Super Mario platformers). There have been more releases of other big-time franchises lately in a much more abbreviated time period, yet not one seems to complain about them.

And that seems to be a big knock on Nintendo -- that their traditional IPs have been exhausted. The truth is they are released sparingly, especia...

Silent Hill, FF:CC, NSMB and the COD4 port make for a stacked end-of-the-year lineup on Wii.

In addition to RS2, we'll get Other M, NMH2, Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment 2, Gladiator A.D. and Grinder next year...and that's just the stuff we already know about.

If you're a core Wii owner, now is a good time.

As for RS2, it looks good so far. Ubi could still screw it up, but it's good that they're taking their time with it.

I certainly don't trust him. He's the equivalent of a political pundit who makes bold predictions for the attention it provides him. That's his job -- to make headlines.

As you said, he's been wrong so much that it's kinda sad at this point. For awhile there, it seems like he predicted a different time for a Wii price drop every week.

Disturbed minds must think alike. I was thinking about RC Pro Am about two weeks ago when I went on a VC shopping spree (bought the first three Castlevanias and played them all weekend). I would LOVE to play that game again.

But wasn't it made by Rare? If so, then there's no chance of it appearing on VC.

Arius -- Same here. I think there's probably some people on here who really got into gaming last gen. And that's cool, but our reference points for "core g...

Mastiff -- I'm not sure if I totally agree.

What's more original? Making FPS games that only have a difference in geography and time period, or doing what Nintendo has done with Metroid? Yes, the Wii will have two new Metroids this gen. One is FPS-ish. But Other M goes back to Metroid's original, 2D-ish roots in third person. I'd say that's risky, especially bringing Team Ninja in. They'll be completely different types of games.

OTOH, Mario is in a TON of masco...

About what I expected. I'm not overly thrilled, but I am a fan of the original, and playing an updated version online sounds really fun. I'll probably buy it.

Also, it's not just a complete remake, since it'll have 3D environments.

IGN probably initially thought this would be an all-new console game to be sold at retail. Once they found out it was a W...

Quit talking sense, oobob. That's forbidden in these parts. Every FPS is like a special snowflake, while every platformer is a Super Mario rehash. So says the CW here.

leeger -- If you're referring to every mascot game (Sluggers, Strikers, Party, Kart, SSBB, etc.), then sure, Mario has been in a ton of them.

But dedicated Super Mario platformers? On a home console? Let's see...Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3, SMW, Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy.

7 games. That's it. In 24 years.

You can add in Galaxy 2 and NSMB, I suppose, so there's 9 games in 25 years. So how does that compare to other franchises?

There...

Team Ninja is working with Nintendo, so big N still has veto power. That's a bit different than what people are proposing with just handing Zelda over to another developer.

Nintendo didn't even do that with the Prime Trilogy; Retro still had to answer to the bigs at Nintendo. ...and that's with a franchise that has always been the step child to the favorite sons.

Uncharted is like a blockbuster action movie. Zelda isn't. I wouldn't want anyone trying to morph LoZ...

I'm with tunaks1. Zelda is all about a particular style of gameplay. Graphics are secondary. Nintendo knows how to make Zelda; the only game that has ever come close to topping big N at their own game was Clover with Okami. That's it. LoZ is Nintendo's most prestigious IP, and it shows. They deliver GOTY quality with every release.

Leave Uncharted to Naughty Dog, and leave Zelda to Nintendo. They both know what they're doing with these games, and they're both damn good at ...

If people are looking for it to launch as big as MW2, then yes, I think they'll be shocked. 'Cause it ain't gonna happen.

Don't get me wrong, it'll sell incredibly well. Just like Galaxy. But Nintendo titles have long legs. The majority of SMG's sales didn't come in the first week of month:

Nintendo will drop Galaxy 2, Other M and Sin and Punishment 2 next year.

Notice any titles missing?

Zelda, Retro's secret project and Pikmin 3. I'd bet that they'll be released in 2011; if they tried to jam everything into 2010, they'd literally have nothing left.

Of course, if I'm right, that would be two Marios, two Zeldas and two Metroids on Wii through 2011. Wii HD in 2012?

Miyamoto's keynote, allegedly where we'd hear about this new game, has already happened. No announcement.

The next place to look? Apparently a "Nintendo Week" show that will air Monday on Nintendo's own Wii channel online.

Metal Arms, Beyond Good & Evil, Psychonauts, Shenmue II, Oddworld, Otogi 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Thief, JSR Future, Okami...all of these were PS2 or XBox games that got good reviews but weren't huge sellers (Okami ended up selling better with its Wii port, with a smaller install base). Her point about games having legs or "tails" on Wii is absolutely true.

No More Heroes was a "flop." Then it went on to sell 400,000 copies and got green-lit for a sequel.

Boom Blox? Also considered a flop. Then it sold something like half a million and got a sequel.

MadWorld? Flop. Until it hung in there with a price drop and ended up selling about 300,000 copies. Sega now says they're happy with the game's sales. Conduit has ...

Something like GTA or Zelda has more than 50 hours of gameplay. Definitely worth $50 or $60, IMO.

FPS games with six-hour long campaigns, but also a robust online offering, can give you that much gameplay (or more), and are also worth it, IMO.

Rail shooters or brawlers that last about six hours and have no online component? Absolutely not worth $50.

That said, for some games, I'll pay full price. Suda51's games are niche, but since I love what he does...

Seriously. Gesture controls have been imprecise (to put it kindly) in the past, but IR/pointer controls for FPS have been dead on since Metroid Prime 3. If you're flailing about like a fool in Conduit, you will die. Quickly. The remote/nunchuck is much more precise than dual analog.

But anywho...with Motion Plus out, "waggle" shouldn't even be in our gaming vocabulary, IMO. There is no "waggle" in Sports Resort. The sword fighting/fencing is fantastic. ...
