I'm super excited. But I'm iffy on using the D-pad to navigate 3D space.

But I stumbled across a response at another board (badthings/Indy at IGN), and I think it fleshes out Sakamoto-san's reasoning. An analog thumbstick has never been able to replicate the nearly-immediate and precise response of a digital D-pad. Think of dodging Bullet Bills or fireballs in Mario. That SUPER fast response was needed in the 2D Metroids, too.

Sakamoto, though, has pretty much pu...

What Spoony said.

The original BB did well enough to warrant a sequel, and possibly even a Natal port (or new BB game altogether). But this is a business. Studios don't remain static with their employees.

"It’s also more difficult: Nintendo firmly signaling its intention to satisfy a fanbase that has felt increasingly betrayed by the company’s recent casual-focused output. If the generous handful of levels showcased here is any indication, some players are going to be screaming for New Super Mario Bros. Wii’s Super Guide feature. Gone are the invisible checkpoints of the original, replaced by flags Mario must touch if he wants to return there from a later failure. Enemies are quicker – Go...

arius -- Couldn't help it. It's not cool to steal avatars. Samus is your muse, my friend.

bob -- True. But I just discovered someone making a meme out of this:

Well gee, bob, when you put it like THAT, lol.

There's no Prime (that was a storyline between Metroid and Return of Samus). Just Other M (which takes place between Super and Fusion).

The difference between M:OM and NSMB is that Metroid has 3D environments and you aren't limited to a 2D plane. It's going to be interesting playing with the D-pad for this one.

It really stinks with Madden, because the Call Your Shot feature works fantastic. They could have made a very deep "make your own playbook" in addition to the audibles at the line. Put that online, facing people with strange plays and exotic blitzes? That would rock.

Ah, now I've got it.

...now that I've totally derailed this thread, I better find a way to bring it back, lol.

I think the reason I'm so stoked for RS2 is because Ubi worked a little bit with Retro on it (see folks, there IS a Metroid connection). You can tell with the structure of the game -- the doors to hide loading, the smooth controls and framerate...there's even an elevator part of the game I saw in a vid that looks like it could've been pulled straight from t...

Not sure if that was intentional or facetious, tbh...

Nah, nothin' wrong with the sunset. But I kinda feel rude for takin' Samus, lol.

I had a couple of other candidates:

They kinda went off the deep end with Madden. I thought TW10 would've shown them the way:

(I know VGC isn't always terribly accurate, but they're usually in the ballpark for LTD sales.)

Make a game that plays to the Wii's strengths, and don't dumb it down.

I think multiplayer would've been quite a challenge with this game. It's taken them all of this time to nail their graphical style and get a playable Motion Plus scheme integrated. And from the gameplay clips I've seen, the sword slashing can be done pretty quick.

Lag is a problem for any online shooter. Now tack on a new primary gameplay mechanic on top of shooting, too. I'd certainly LIKE multiplayer, but I'd rather Ubi nail the single player than try to be a jack of all tr...

This from the same site -- same WRITER -- who was on a "Nintendo is lazy and you don't care" kick late last year?

A writer who knew most of the games he references in this article were in the development pipeline, but still formulated a poorly reasoned op/ed despite that knowledge?

And now we're back to "good cop"? Pfft.

At least this article will bring attention to some games (Fragile, Trauma Team) that are under the big shadow of M...

No prob. : )

But that's why I'm thinking it could just be to throw us off the scent, too...

That said, the Metroid manga gives a whole backstory to the creation of the Metroid species by the Chozo...a story Sakamoto hadn't yet dreamed up in 1986.

It's hard to pin where an "Other Metroid" could come from with all of that. But as you said...i...

IGN: When you beat the original Metroid, there's a warning of 'another Metroid.' Is that what 'Other M' refers to in the title of the Wii game?

Yoshio Sakamoto: The NES Metroid? I don't remember.

IGN: [Laughing] We guess that answers it then.

Sakamoto-san has said:

"Other M has several meanings. As the story unfolds, those meanings should gradually reveal themselves."

So I guess we'll have to wait and see. The most obvious anagram is "Mother" (which plays prominently into the Metroid mythos; Mother Brain, the hatchling Metroid thinks Samus is its ...

That's what everyone was probably hoping for, lol.

But Nintendo is going to drag this out for as long as they can. The E3 trailer, then months of silence until a hands on, then this...they're building hype.
