I think it was honest trailers that compared it to a direct to dvd sequel rather than a new feature film. That is honestly exactly what it felt like to me.

This is actually good news. Hulst needs to go. If he doubles down, he will be out the door even faster. Hopefully, the next exec learns from the mistakes that killed Ryan and Hulst.

That’s excellent news! This is how it should be for every game, no matter the hype. Just wait until it releases and make an informed decision based on its performance and your favorite reviewers. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

He appears to be criticizing the 4K photorealistic graphics, over the shoulder camera, and the digital deluxe add-ons in his comment.

I don’t think he is saying that Bloober Team did a poor job with their adaptation. This seems more like a criticism of remaking the game in the first place. Essentially, why bother to add photorealism and over the shoulder aiming in first place.

This game is never coming out. We really need to stop talking about it.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing while reading it.

“Solid quality” is that some sort of unique French idiom for boring crap.

Hopefully they can all get jobs at companies that make better video games.

I honestly don’t mind remasters, but remastering a game that already looks fantastic is such a waste. Now the Soul Reaver remasters is exactly the kind of thing I think a studio like Nixxes should be doing.

Thank god. It looked so old and awful before. Alloy’s freckle density looked like ps2 era freckle density. So glad they are doing this instead of developing new games.

Reminds me of the uncanny valley look of Andromeda. You can’t have a stylized cartoonish design and keep ultra realistic hair and skin. This is in the same ballpark as those horrifying AI generated images of realistic Simpsons characters that occasionally pop up on the internet.

They were both great for their time, but I think the industry has moved on. A lot of these crazy story beats that Nomura loves to through out were awesome in the 32 bit era, were everything presented more like a comic book. Most of the hits out there are are aspiring to be prestige television. Just don’t think these guys do that well on that stage.

The remake project is so frustrating. For everything they get right, they get something wrong, at least in opinion. I am ultimately glad I stuck with and played both games, but I can totally understand fans who bailed after all the horrible changes they have made to the original story. Still hope we see the combat director for remake give us his own take on the franchise in the future. Also really hope Nomura and Kitase retire after this project is over. They are way past their prime.

No game should be a best seller before release. Even guaranteed home runs like Elden Ring should be a day two buy after real reviews start to drop. Seriously, preordering is one of the all time dumbest things to do. It's basically just begging to release unfinished buggy crap.

Honestly, I think it’s the type competition that Microsoft has decided to engage in that has effected Sony the most this generation. Microsoft failed at the console market so spectacularly that they decided the only way that could compete was to change the rules of the game. Hence, the pivot towards game pass with lots of live service garbage.

Unfortunately, Sony bit hard on the bait and we are now seeing the consequences of that. The acquisition of Bungie, no PlayStation S...

Seems like the shareholders and Board would consider a change in leadership. But then again, they could always fire a few thousand more employees. I’m sure that will work eventually.

While I don’t think it has been that bad of a generation, I do think Sony can do better. Nothing wrong with reminding them that they have a big legacy to live up to.

True. But these studios also live and die by the decisions of these big publishers.

Sony should have never approved a 40 dollar hero shooter in 2024 in the first place. I doubt any devs would be worried about their jobs if they had their name behind a Sony first party single player game that had sold 8-10 million units after its first week.

Everything Sony has done since the Bungie Acquisition stinks of desperation.

I couldn’t be happier. Unfortunately, I strongly suspect they plan on revamping it and trying again in some fashion. That’s even more time and money wasted on something that shouldn’t exist in the first place.

I really hope that Jim Ryan’s surprise “retirement” brings an end to this kind of crap.
