To the rest of us who know anything about making a game, that's what we call wasted processing power. Who needs 200 light sources in a scene? Who is going to NOTICE the difference between 20 and 200 light sources?
Sony's guerrilla advertising department must be working overtime to counter the disappointing KZ2 demo.
Agreed. I'm actually surprised the first DR didn't make it to the PS3. It would have been a good benchmark of the two systems against each other (instead of thug commentators who can't be bothered with proof).
But I'm not going out of my way to call MS' foul for tying them up with money, because there is no evidence they did.
Cliffbo, no one does uncompressed textures. In fact, most high quality rendering these days is done by a mapping algorithm, not large picture files. And uncompressed sound is impossible on a digital media as digital quantization is compression by itself.
But I guess you only know what Sony PR spoon feeds you to make you think a Blu-ray disk is worth the cost.
I dislike reading, I have a short attention span, but I appreciate that one 2 minute take in Kill Bill.
"Starcraft 2"
Of course the hardcore RTS players who want more depth will still be playing on the PC... The most complex strategy game I can think of is Civ Rev, and that's turn based.
I can understand the 360 or the Wii's popularity, but the PS3's fanbase resembles a classic cult of personality on the scale of Mao or Stalin. The way they deny the truth is religious in nature. Of course, the denial of the RROD is quite interesting in that light as well.
The other cult I'm a bit sick of is the anti-Microsoft cult. I would not want to see the state of the tech industry without MS. It would be a wildly different world and not necessarily better.
A...
Certainly. Halo sells games. But I think a lot of FPS fans are about to find out they are RTS fans too. Look at HW as a gateway RTS drug.
They are compared because they both compete for the same $60. They are both games.
And Halo might make RTS fans out of people who normally play FPS. This is the first real test for the Halo brand outside of FPS, and I'm anxious to see how it plays out.
I have to say, he's right. In the words of the venerable Yhatzee, "Some times games are popular for a reason: BECAUSE THEY'RE GOOD!"
Yes, Halo IS overrated by the 12 year old scum that play it, but it is none the less a landmark series that gets marked down merely because of those 12 year old scums or the fact that "evil" Microsoft made it (which couldn't be further from the truth... Bungie, previously a mac developer, made it). Halo is a truly great franchise, and some people have a problem with that.
Shutter Glasses are NOT the answer to home 3D. I have a pair for my PC and even those kinda suck. Polarized screens are how it's going to happen. And that means new screens.
Raising a mountain of fail out of the ground. I don't remember that in the original...
Whatever works. Just remember that PS3 is the only system still selling at a loss. So a price drop might STILL not be the best choice.
Maybe at the beginning of the generation, but 360 has had a lot of games compared to the DC... and a RROD the DC didn't have...
I don't want to take sides again, but I tend to agree that I would rather program on an easy to program platform rather than a mystery box of alien technology that we "unlock" a little bit at a time.
At the same time, this isn't marketing toward developers. They see right through this crap. This is marketing the PS3 as having unlimited "depth" to the consumer. People, don't trust anything you can't put your own hands on. The PS3's alleged power doesn't exi...
Surprise! You can already do that in Halo 3's Forge mode. You just have to set it up.
That sounds respectable. Just makes me wonder how long until the KZ2 holy fanatics criticize OXM for not "respecting" an appropriate gulf between Halo Wars and Killzone 2's scores.
Maybe we should all look to YOU for our game opinions. Then, we can trash YOU when we find out you are a mindless, close-minded moron. I might give you some credit if you didn't knee jerk your way into your beliefs.
Dread, everyone is a gamer. There is no such thing as a "true gamer".
Odds are, someone thinks you aren't a true gamer.
And if you can't change the lighting on the fly, that means it's pre-rendered light maps. And if it's pre-rendered light maps... that means the PS3 isn't as powerful as the purveyors of this story want you to think...
