Fortunately I'm one of the few who don't prefer first person shooting games, so all of this flaming of each other and consoles and whatnot is just making for a really nice toasty fire to keep the cold at bay. I've never really understood the allure of FPS games to begin with - maybe I'm just not that competitive. Though that's probably a good reason why there is so much hatred and fighting going on here, in that these kinds of games live off of competitive people, so of course you're going to...
We're in the current gen, and like it or not, the Wii is in the current generation of consoles, in a purely logical manner. But I think I know where you're going with that. So technically this game is being made for a last-gen, a new-gen, and a crappy portable system.
I'm banking that the Wii version will probalby be the most interesting, and best selling, of the three.
That... that makes almost no sense at all.
Wait. I was wrong. It absolutely makes no sense at all.
You make some damned good points, too good for me to dispute. :)
I, as well as many people do I should think, see the Wii as an "add-on". Gamers, as a whole, are going to have either a PS3 or X-Box 360, and a Wii to sit beside it. For the "gamers", the Wii doesn't have everything that they want, but it's got enough to warrant a purchase, which they use to supplement their more powerful console.
The Wii is being compared to the PS3 and the X-Box 360 because all three are current generation consoles. It's really not that hard to figure it out. The fact that you suggested the Wii be compared to the PS2 suggests that you think that console evolution is solely about horsepower, which is obviously a flawed thought process. There's no need for anyone to go all fanboy over these facts - just accept them.
You're certainly right about focusing on specific audiences, but you also contradicted yourself by stating that the Wii has a diverse market. That particular target audience overlaps the market that the PS3 and X-Box 360 are aiming for, and expands upon it. The Wii isn't being solely touted as a game system for people who aren't used to playing video games, it's a game system that people who aren't used to playing video games can also pick up and enjoy, along with the regular gamers.
...But why is News For Gamers allowing such obvious pirating propaganda on their webpage?
Now that's a beautiful FMV there... I'm not sure I like the style change at the last half of it, but it's beautiful all of the same.
Yep, the Wii obviously can't handle good graphics. :p
I'd rather that the company focuses on the single player aspect of this game, much like Bethesda did with Oblivion. These kinds of games thrive on the single player aspect, and I just think that tossing in multiplayer options is just going to muddy things all up.
But then again, I'm a single-player kinda guy, and don't play MMORPGs or online multiplayer computer/console games.
No need to whine about it, mate. It's not like it matters who posts, as long as the information gets passed.
That looked fantastic! I'm so glad I've got this guy pre-ordered. ^_^
Holy smokes, Spore is coming for the DS as well? That is some of the best gaming news I've heard as of late. ^_^
That and the wife and I can't wait for The Sims for Wii. It looks like a lot of fun!
I came in to remark on what Sphinx had said. Movies have been put out on DVD's since the mid 90's and only just in the past year or two have (standalone) DVD players been outselling VCRs. Likewise, that was a significant shift in playback, data storage, visuals, audio, and all manner of things that occured by going from tape to disk. This... It doesn't look like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are offering much aside from a higher price for prettier graphics. The shift is from disk to disk, so the gain is...
Is Sony even going to be able to sell out 220,000 systems in the UK alone? What is the pre-order situation like over there?
I don't know if you can accurately portray Nintendo's strategy with the Wii as short term. They put many years and yen worth of R&D into the Wii, and are attempting to provide a new way to enjoy a video game console, not just provide a short term fad. (They did the same thing with the NES controller - that was new and unprecedented at the time as well.)
The thing with the Wii that will not advance well in the upcoming years is, obviously, graphics and sheer computing horsep...
Okay, I agree with this guy to a certain degree - people like graphics - but he misses a crucial point. That point is that graphics in video games have reached a very powerful level, a level which allows game creators to choose just what kind of graphics they want. That's why a movie such as "The Incredibles" didn't have INCREDIBLE photo-realistic graphics - the creators chose the graphical style they wanted. Same in video games. The cut scenes in "Hotel Dusk" for the DS a...
Lest you forget, the Wii is more powerful than the PS2, and the last time I checked, Final Fantasy XII, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Black, and many more games look beautiful and play magnificently, all on a "last gen" system that is less powerful than the Wii.
Just think about it.
I don't really understand the "fanboy" remarks here. It's a sad fact that people really shouldn't need any help finding PS3s right now. That doesn't make it a fanboy remark, it makes it the truth.
As my title states, it really depends on how you view it. Just because a mod chip CAN be made, doesn't mean that it SHOULD be made. While I'm sure that there are plenty of people who would love to be able to backup their game investments, I think we all realisticially know that the majority of the users of this chip will simply pirate games - copy their friend's game, or rent a game from GameFly and do the same thing.
I think that's where morality comes into play in this - just...
Just how legal is this? I mean I want to play some old school games as much as the next guy, but at least I've got the stones to hunt around and purchase the games.
If this is somehow legal and fine, then I'll eat my shoe.
