The quote they have isn't even from the piece the writer is referring to, which probably means it's either made up or comes from an unreliable source.
There's NOTHING in that article that suggests this rumor has any weight. They just title it to make you think it does to grab those hits.

Where do these people get these off the wall numbers from for XBL Gold?
I see everything from $40, to $65, $80 and depending on the blatant lack of research by the person, even higher.
Once and for all, it's not $80 for XBL. It's not now and It never has been. It's $60 a year if you do it via the dashboard or xbox.com, or cheaper if you buy from third-party retailers.

Definitely worth the money and as Alpha said, you can find it for less than $60. In fact, both console versions were $35 all week on Amazon last week.

In all honesty, I have not played the full version of Socom 4. I played the beta (which was really just a demo since they had no time to change anything on the disc before launch), found it to be disappointing, and then read several reviews from publications that I personally trust that also labeled it as a sub-par offering compared to what the Socom franchise and Zipper have delivered in the past.

That doesn't change the fact that this shouldn't be an even remotely close race. Everyone knew what the PlayStation brand was going in to this gen. Not everyone knew what the Xbox was. Cheaper or not, it's still capable of everything the PS3 is with the exception of bluray.

It's because the original Xbox was crushed by the PS2 that makes what the 360 has done so impressive. Honestly, Microsoft had no business being where they are now after the terrible financial start they had last gen. Pair that with the hiccups this gen (RROD) and there's no reason Sony shouldn't be CRUSHING the Xbox brand this gen.

Yes yes yes. I don't understand why these guys so ape shit over the number of exclusives they have. Especially since just as many PS3 exclusives end up disappointing.... like Move Heroes or Socom 4. Both scored terribly considering the expectations set by the PS3 crowd.

Yeah, RROD was pretty terrible but if given the option of dealing with that or having my information compromised via the PSN, I'd take the hardware failure any day.
Microsoft can (and did) fix my console at no charge, but Sony can't take back the information stolen by other people.

No one said it was. The only time people compare NPD's to the world are the PS3 fans that have no other comeback when these reports surface and they see Microsoft dominate. North America is Microsoft's home turf so it makes sense they kill it there. Get over it.
