The problem is the price and the shovelware. Nintendo probably own the best 1st party IPs out there and since the Wii, they have been deliberately releasing hardware 1-2 gens inferior to their competitors. I long for the day Nintendo actually invest in good hardware and then we can see the return of great 3rd party titles on the console and current-gen 1st party IPs. Because let's face it, games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Odyssey could have ran on a PS3.

Yeah I have no doubt there are plenty of people who loved the game and that's fine. Call of Duty, Fortnite etc have millions of fans that love their games. I don't subscribe to the idea that quality of something is universally proportional to the size of its fanbase or the amount of money it makes. It would mean Dwayne Johnson is the most talented actor in the world because he has the most fans, is the highest paid actor and delivers the most profitable films.

It...

I've only just finished the game for the first time 2 nights ago mate. So I haven't been "attacking and downplaying it" in order to keep the fake online outrage. I didn't play this game until a year later, way after everything cooled down.

In fact, while playing Ellie's section, I genuinely thought to myself that these negative reactions were nonsensical. But I soon realised and understood once I started playing Abby's section.

Well the game did sell extremely well so of course Druckman would get promoted. The game outside of its story isn't a bad game by any stretch. It's just nowhere near a masterpiece.

I feel like the awards are just people circling the wagons. Journalists and fellow like-minded devs are going out of their way to protect this game ever since the negative reaction to the leaks. I wonder if the leaks didn't occur what the real ratings would have been from this outlets...

I feel it was just pure bad luck. It's a storm, huge horde of zombies are chasing you. You reach the nearest shelter hideout. As soon as you walk in, your brother starts mouthing off who you are. You take a look at the faces around you and just when you realise, oh shit. The world of TLOU is supposed to be extremely deadly and death can await you from anywhere. The fact is, it wasn't an ambush. It was just bad luck. They weren't planning to ambush Joel in that moment in time in th...

By teenage drama I was referring to the love triangles. The relationships between Abby, Owen and Mel were front and center in Abby's story; similarly between Ellie, Dina and Jesse.
So much in-game dialogue devoted to pregnancies and who should know, who should act etc. Side note: You must admit it's pretty hilarious how a heavily pregnant Mel is allowed out on a dangerous mission and can climb walls and jump off ledges with a huge bun in the oven. How did Naughty Dog not thin...

I always thought the ending of TLOU part 1 was an implicit message that a cure will never be found - and that the story is not about finding a cure to save mankind, but mankind making the best out of a shitty situation.

In Ellie's story, the factions were initially portrayed mysteriously. Especially the Scars, when you enter that office lobby area and see the bodies strung up with guts hanging out. That scene was quite creepy and tense. It was supposed to build up for a...

I don't mind a revenge story. I'm not in the camp that Joel should not have been killed at the start of the game. It takes courage to kill off the main character at the beginning of a sequel but the revenge story's execution was just extremely poor.

It's just that instead of a real gritty revenge story we get teenage drama of love triangles and cringey dialogue. It was just about tolerable in Ellie's story, but beyond tolerable in Abby's.

Just finished this game last night for the first time. A damn shame about the 2nd half. The quality of gameplay and narrative just takes a massive nosedive after you start playing as Abby. No small open-world environments like in Ellie's section, very linear uncreative sections that are long and drawn out. Extremely cringe-worthy side characters with teenage drama you don't care about. WLF and Scars factions just become archetypical jokes and all that build-up to the final confrontati...

Hmm, looks like it really was revealed a bit too early. Here's hoping it will appear again at Jump Festa, and hopefully with a release date. I don't think the wait will be as agonizing as FFvs13/FF15 and FF7R.

Sounds like the above ^ guys are taking this far too seriously.

Obviously issues like global warming and corporate corruption were big themes in the original FF7 and in the remake. But sometimes in the original Shinra would be portrayed quite silly. I still remember the line where Rufus says, "My father controlled everyone through money. I will control everyone through fear." It's a corny line that was typical of SNES/PS1-era JRPGs. If they portray these issue...

We'll have to wait and see if MS sticks to their word that nearly all cosmetics are unlockable in-game. And we'll have to wait and see how much grind is needed to unlock cosmetics. I suspect it will be similar to how it's done in Halo MCC, except with the added pay option.

This is a Ubiworld game.

Barely anything about it looks innovative and Ubisoft have been dishing out at least 1 Ubiworld game a year for over a decade. Ironically, Far Cry was one of the last few Ubi franchises that still had a little something that was unique. But the fact there are 3rd person cutscenes once again shows that Ubisoft is determined to use the same formula for all their franchises. I wouldn't be surprised if Far Cry 7 ends up having an 3rd person view op...

Hmm, feels like it takes place after the The Dark Lord ending where the player chooses not to relink the fire and usher in an Age of Dark.

Funny enough, despite the "Age of Dark" being central to the Dark Souls lore, we barely know anything about it and have seen almost nothing of it.

Perhaps the only time we see something resembling an Age of Dark is in Dark Souls 3, where we travel back in time to the past version of the Cemetery of Ash - The...

Customer trends will always set the market. At some point, the fortnite kids will grow up and lose interest and the older teens now will become adults with less money in their wallets as their parents. The late-2000s and 2010s spending bonanza will not return this decade, I think. And I think MS has realised this.

I think it's more to do with the masses rather than informed gamers not taking action. The people who read up on this stuff make up a drop in the ocean of players who absolutely don't care at all. Also, a lot of these players are kids. A lot of parents see paying $9.50 a month for the next Fortnite pass as a cheap enough way to make their kids happy.

Good on Microsoft for taking a moral step on this, which itself is quite surprising. It's possible MS is targetin...

We need the kids or their parents to stop buying Sonic games to send a message.

I wonder how long a development cycle is on a Sonic game and how large the team is versus the return. The former must be pretty damn small because I rarely ever hear of amazing sales for the Sonic franchise these days.

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 were very good 3D sonic games.

The problem is that there is no talent at Sonic Team. They came up with the super speed linear levels in Sonic Unleashed and it hasn't been good. Most of the time you're just pressing forward while holding the dash button, with the occasional jump/home attacks.

Sonic doesnt have to be that super fast. Funny enough the closest we got to the balance between speed and platforming was probably ...

Metroid 2 and Super Metroid were quite creepy games. Metroid Fusion had that sense of dread whenever SA-X was pursuing you.
