Yeh, in the original game, Midgar could be completed in like 4 hours for first-timers and 2 hours for veterans.

FF7 Remake is most likely going to be a trilogy. The 2nd game will probably be open-world similar to FF15 but with numerous towns, dungeons and locations scattered around. I suspect the 2nd game will end at the Ancient Temple where [spoiler] occurs and is also the end of Disc 1 of the original. The third game will combine Discs 2&3 together. (Disc 3 only had ...

True, but it does kinda reflect badly on them.
After playing all three of them, I think one can objectively say that FF7R is the superior of the bunch.

But I think it's also related to the fact that IGN has once again stopped rate games in decimals.

There aren't that many side quests. But in terms of padding in the main story, I can kinda see what IGN is saying. But I think most of it so far is fine.

A 10 is surprising but I got this game early and I can guarantee that this is a game definitely in the 9 region. Definitely the best main Final Fantasy game since the PS2 days.

You can really tell that Square have learnt a lot from the struggles of FF13, FFvs13 and FF15. I can see this battle system becoming the new standard for future FF titles.

Of course this game has its share of issues but thankfully they're not to do with core gameplay and combat...

This.
That was part of my Tomb Raider memories as a kid.

I agree that RE5 and RE6 were awful, but RE4 definitely revolutionised the franchise.

The verb revolutionise doesn't necessarily mean good or bad but a major change of the status quo. The way we (and developers) viewed Survival Horror and TPS genres changed after RE4 came out.

Agreed. RE4 is no need of a remake. A graphical revamp, maybe. If they wish to bring it up to modern standards of visual fedility, then fine.

Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece of its time. It revolutionized both the Resident Evil franchise AND the third-person shooter genre.

Code Veronica could do very well with the RE Engine treatment. Like RE2make, it can benefit from a third-person perspective while sticking its survival horror roots.

Tbh, at the very least, RE3make coming out this quick allows for Capcom to concentrate on making Resident Evil 8 truly groundbreaking.

They've seen the high success of RE2make. They are now fully aware that not just fans but mainstream gamers want a RE game that is truly survival horror and not the action-fest Michael Bay nonsense of RE6.

Feels like IGN is overrating this. I have no doubt that this game is going to be great but unlikely the masterpiece that last year's RE2make was. This came out just over a year later and a reviewer says it can be completed in 6.5hrs - so obviously it was in co-development. Obviously there's going to be re-used assets and copied & pasted mechanics. And considering RE3 was a bit more action-orientated and a bit less survival horror than RE2, I can't see RE3make being any better ...

"I dunno why people keep trying to downplay the negative aspects of their characters, it undermines their redemption arc."

An interesting observation. There has been this trend - where fictional characters in movies/shows lately that commit acts of 'murder, burgling, robbery, torture' can be forgiven if part of a character's redemption arc - however acts of 'rape' & 'misogyny' are so unforgivable that even the writer that created th...

I'm pretty sure Kratos disrespected women less than men. When a guy is in his way, he brutally rips him apart without question - regardless of the guy's cries or begging. If a woman is in his way, Kratos usually asks them to stand aside, and if they do not comply, proceeds to rip them apart.

Also, Kratos is not cruel to children and has never harmed any. It is ancient Hellenistic society that is misogynistic, not Kratos.

Probably because her STARS uniform was all ripped up and dirty, lol?

Perhaps I'm remembering wrong, but she knew about the virus but didn't know the city would go to hell.

"Totally different" is quite an extreme description. Showing flashbacks and visions rather than subtle hints is simply a change of narrative technique. The story itself remains unchanged.

Well, this is a reactor exploding. Even under martial law, there'd be rescue workers. Maybe reporters on the scene is a bit of a stretch. Midgar is far from a democracy.

I think we should remember that technological limitations would have played a role in the scenario brainstorming back then. Maybe we didn't see huge amounts of carnage because it was a PS1 game. Cutscenes were mainly simple low-polygon animations over pre-rendered backgrounds and voiceless speech bu...

I reckon Advent Children might be only Compilation entry that'll be considered canon to FF7R.
Meaning, we might see a younger Denzel cameo or references to geostigma.

I think the extra stuff of Crisis Core should be left alone. Thinking retrospectively about the additions, while I'm okay in general with the character of Genesis, a lot of the plot was hot garbage.

Claire's original design looked very odd - straight out of an 80s/90s anime OVA. And Leon starting his first day on the job in police uniform made no sense. So I get the design changes there.

But Jill's design change looks worse in my opinion. My issue is that her outfit is far too generic. Straight out of an edgy zombie flick. Luckily, her original outfit is included as pre-order DLC. Some say it's out of place in a zombie apocalypse but considering that Jill h...

The main reason FF7R got split up is because the team decided they didn't want to compromise on the quantity of great ideas (new & old) they had for the remake.

The Midgar section of the original was about 2-3 hours long max. This game ends at the end of Midgar section and is expected to last at least 30 hours. Imagine how much new content is going to be added in?

Of course, part of the reason FF13 suffered is due to its initial project scale and ...

I wonder if many of the above read the article or played KH3 to understand the question here.

Nomura is clearly salty about not being able to make his dream game. And I'm pretty sure he knows that loads of FF fans were sorely disappointed by the end result that was FF15.

I think it's very possible that dozens of Nomura's ideas and concepts that did not make the cut in FF15 will be seeing some form in Kingdom Hearts 4. The DLC has made it clear...

There is a difference between overtime and crunch.

Overtime is just working more than usual hours. It can be infrequent or optional.

But when it becomes both frequent and non-optional, then it becomes a crunch. Some people think that as long as you're getting paid, it's fine. Well, not really. People also have lives? What's the point of getting paid a lot of money if you have no time of the day left to even spend it on?

It&#...
