Seems more like a quick first impression than an actual review.
I suppose he just couldn't get that far. Fair enough.
Still, I fail to see how the upgrades are useless as they change how you play the game by quite a bit. Character customization is far more than just basic... meh.
"Low level cap and small maps hinder lasting replay value."
Don't really see why having more levels adds replay value. Low level cap allows you to get up to speed quickly instead of grinding for a week and getting massacred by older players.
Level caps work in an RPG... not so much in an FPS tailored around teamwork.
The maps also aren't all that small. They're broken into smaller pieces much like BC2's rush mode.
Sti...
No lag here.
They've been long overdue, no?
Especially considering that fighting games generally have a faster pace than most shooters, making those tiny fractions of a second oh so valuable.
Tactically retreating like a pussy ftw.
Yay, a review of the PC version. :D
The AI steal heals you, and that to me is the most important thing.
Nothing is more annoying than lying on the ground, watch a medic boost others and himself while ignoring you.
I'd take a bot medic over most human ones.
Oh well, PSN seems to be coming back online. Hopefully the online is smooth for you fellas.
The review scores are poor due to the 360 version having more or less crippled online. The 360 version is also what is primarily used as a review copy.
That, and people seem to have an issue with the friendly AI being stupid (it is designed that way to ensure that the game doesn't play itself for you... there is an incoming patch that will improve the AI).
Considering that the MP is the focus of the game, a laggy online is a pretty big blow and the low scores are ...
Well, they are one of the biggest sites in gaming media aren't they?
You can believe that they're biased and disagree with everything they say, but you can't really deny their influence.
^ That doesn't really matter now does it?
"It is merely improving on an already successful concept."
Still holds true.
Winning awards or being critically acclaimed has nothing to do with innovation. MAG and MirrorsEdge didn't win any big awards, yet they innovated.
Okami was innovative, yet it is considered a flop.
You're trying to convince Earbus that innovation exists, yet according to your logic, the games Earb...
"Uncharted innovated the cinematic experience, blurring the line between action movie and game."
Games have always been pushing the boundary between movies and games, and many games have been cinematic. Uncharted just improved what was already there.
Yet, you call it innovative while according to your other comment, it shouldn't be as "It is merely improving on an already successful concept."
Innovation doesn't have to be about creating something entirely new.
A combination of existing ideas can be innovative.
As for the execution, I haven't found any major gripes about the gameplay. There's a few bugs that need to be ironed out, but other then that, it's been a lot of fun.
It's hardly at the bottom of the barrel either.
Valve isn't known for high-tier graphics (Source was amazing at launch though, but that was mostly due to the water effects and the physics).
Graphics ain't their thing.

"that are polished to hell like COD."
"but it is hard to argue when a person will get a highly polished five to six hour single player campaign"
O.o?
It is hard to argue that CoD is highly polished.
I couldn't even play the game properly on PC for the first few weeks.
According to MachinimaRespawn's interview with Ham, the friendly AI waits for you to do objectives in the beginning. As the game goes on and the AI sees that the player isn't getting the objective done, the friendly AI will get more agressive and do those objectives.
Personally my biggest complaint now is that glass is bulletproof. =/
It is odd as most reviews criticise aspects which are just part of the inherent design of class-based objective-drive...
... how is it broken? O.o
One of your earlier comments was "Brink its just another title in the long list of multiplatform fodder thats been thrown at the PS3's exclusives in a sad attempt to show that other consoles can cut the HD mustard. They can't."
which leads me to believe that you have a bigger issue with the game being multiplatform than anything else.
This kind of implies that future DLC will be paid?
Come on SD. We want SDK and free content on PC. =/
"Probably the stupidest comment I heard about PSN going down yet."
O.o?
The 5XX series is also having performance issues.
ATI issue was bigger as it affected a lot of people, and newer cards generally have hitchy performance in the beginning.
^ It's a PC game.
It's somewhere in-between CoD's Zombies and L4D. It's my favourite among the three as well.
