If you pick up one brand new at a store, it should be a 2008 model. They have the quiet optical drive, the shrunken down CPU and GPU, and no thermal issues. Also, the Power Supply went down from 200 watts to 175 watts, since the new chips use less power. What I do notice, however is that the fans kinda make up for the noise when they do kick in. They're usually very quiet though. The entire system is also much cooler.

I've seen videos of people gaming on the iPod Touch/iPhone. And it's really interesting. But it's not going to be competitive.

DS has price and fun factor
PSP has sophistication and power

Where is iPhone going to fit in, as PSP and DS already cover both ends?

XMB is a copy off of Media Center's interface. Windows Media Center Edition predates the XMB in PSP (Sony's earliest verion) by about a year or two. The time it took for them to copy it, no doubt;)

Pearl Harbor was a military installation.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were civilian cities.

Japan attacked military, while America went after civilians. That's just shameful and it's not honorable.

Yeah, why do it in a game? It might be nice when she's at work and you're on the couch gaming (you lazy people) but I think then that the relationship is about to end when she finds out that you're a creep.

I have a Zune 80. I would like to see some integration with Vista/360.

*being compatible with Windows Sideshow would be nice, as it would have a beautiful screen and have its own controls. maybe even extending Windows Sidebar to show widgets docked on the Zune's screen instead of your main screen.

*being an external HDD to the 360 would really show promise for media, but maybe not so much for games. USB wouldn't be ideal for transfer rates.

Zune Marketpl...

I would have to say that this is good news all around. PS3 sells because it's a bluray player and games take a backseat to living room appeal. So PS3's price doesn't matter to those people. x360 sells because of hi-def gaming, xbox live, and affordable price.

Don't add things to "make x360 a ps3". The price is what it is, one console concentrates on gaming and the other concentrates on living room appeal. One gives you the guts built for gaming and the other stuff can b...

68% failure rate is a lie. out of 20+ million, you're telling me that around 14 million are defective, leaving 6 million?

so how do they roll out units quick enough to replace that amount? better yet, maybe fedex would see a spike in deliveries coming to/from MS and they at least would be able to confirm that kind of volume.

read my comment history. i predicted that this would be the time when the FUD comes out.

I like video comparisons, but none of them will ever really show you the true image. They're great for getting the bigger picture and peaking at what's in the box. But as far as using them to pick out glitches and other finer points of interest in a game, they might lead you to draw the wrong conclusions.

Technical issues are hard to pinpoint in a compressed video! The color banding they show may very well be the result of their video capture device, their cables, or the codecs ...

Of course, MGS4 was Konami's first real experience with PS3 so it can be excused that they had to build an engine and all of that. Which would mean the best comparison would be to add Gears 1's development time as that was were the groundwork was laid for them in the next gen.

Gears1 (1.5 years) + Gears2 (2 years) = 3.5 years
MGS4= 3 years

In graphics, Gears remained to be an amazing testament to the x360's power. Gears 2 shattered that and wrote a whole new b...

I saw that in my demo as well, to avoid it don't hug the wall. It has something to do with the how the engine calculates color variations and brightness according to your perspective. So I guess if you're up against something dark, the moderately lit up area shows some banding. Maybe it's got something to do with HDR or lack of?

It's got so much substance to it. I applaud the audio director/sound crew. They managed to make every gun sound friggin awesome! The first thing I noticed was how much they put on screen. There's more in each environment, and it's not just stretched out visuals. There is detail in every screenshot. The fire and spark effects are actually the best I've seen yet. And the improved water effects are there too, as well as environmental destruction.

On a sidenote, the longshot has only...

Gears won awards for graphics. Gears 2 is no different, it slaughters quite possibly everything in its path. With a chainsaw.

Halo Wars will have no problem beating this game. I almost for a minute thought of buying EndWar...nice voice command but the graphics aren't $60 pretty. I also thought about Quake Wars, since I liked the idea. But it looks like Halo Wars will have no competition!

Did you guys ever think that maybe Sony's 10 year lifespan correlates to the time it takes for devs to finally start making good use of the hardware?

That is the most logical conslusion, since PlayStation always hits its stride late in the game. 1998-2000 were the best years in PSx's life, despite DreamCast's huge success in 1999-2000. 2003-2005 were the best years in PS2's life and it easily pulled past x360 for the first year or so of the next gen.

the formula is a...

Beyonce has little competition. Maybe none, she's finer than a 0.5 ballpoint. I think I'd kill myself if she was my mom...never being able to tap that would be a curse.

Dude, all hail the COG. Seriously, there's nothing in Gears 1 that can prepare you for Gears 2. Maybe the cover system and the chainsaw. There's so much improvement that I can't even play Gears 1 anymore.

More of the same? That's so not true...if you beat Gears 1 on Insane and thought THAT was something, then Gears 2 will push your BPM to 180 easy. They perfected an already good game and expanded an already huge environment. There's so much stuff going on in a lot of the game. He...
