Sometimes I wonder if the big companies aren't just using piracy as an excuse to attack the used game market.
Based on the Amalur demo, I'd say they both have their strong points and weaknesses. I have to say that I was very disappointed (but not surprised, it is EA after all,) that Amalur will have online pass for a single player experience. This means I won't be getting it on day one, as I make it a personal rule never to pay full price for a game with online pass. But I'm not too put off by this wait as Skyrim still has a lot of play left in it for me to get my RPG fix until then. ...
Makes me wonder if this is going to be the new way of bribing game journalists. After all, what gaming site would want to give bad reviews to a game that has their colleagues acting in it?
Regardless of how fast the drive is, if it's plugged into a SATA port, it is bottle-necked by the SATA port's bandwidth. This can be overcome by the SSD having it's own controller card that plugs into a PCIe slot, but since this not an option on the PS3, I can't see this adding much improvement to the PS3 unless it's default HDD is a particularly slow one.
The pricing he mentions is pretty spot on, I put together my gaming PC for around $650 and it's run everything I've thrown at it very nicely.
Also a lot of console gamers were PC gamers who left the pc to get away from all the draconian DRMs being shoved down their throats. Now that this kind of crap is starting to appear on consoles (albeit under different names,) a lot of gamers are likely to return to PC gaming.
I love console and PC gaming alm...
With the price of the unit, the memory cards and the games being what they announced, this American thinks it's a tad on the costly side. I really don't like the idea of a back touch screen either, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. I want to see what people think of it when it's actually out, so it's going to be a wait and see for me.
I play mostly single player games just for fun and a little escapism. I was enjoying gaming long before achievements and trophies ever showed up and would not miss them in the least if they went away.
I'm not a fan of multiplayer social games, but this looks interesting. I love the 8bit looking graphics.
BioWare passed the point of being crass a long time ago. And using sex to sell games has nothing to do with having an open mind. It has to do with insecure game designers that feel they have to throw this kind of stuff in there because they think their work wouldn't sell on it's own.
What an unprofessional response. He sounds just like an angry kid. He really needs to grow up a bit before he goes around calling other people unprofessional.
I'm not quite sure, but it sounds like you're referring to 'hidden object' games which is a different genre from adventure games, though people do get them confused with adventure games some times.
Hidden Object games aren't really my cup of tea, but I do love puzzle adventure games like the Prof. Layton series.
Interesting article. One thing that really turns me off of the vita is that price of the memory cards. I recently purchased a 16gb card for transferring data between my desktop and notebook for around $15. Sony's cards are way too expensive, each card should be about half of what they are pricing them at.
Still, it almost never turns out good for the gamer when a company starts getting too arrogant, so hopefully that's not the path they're heading down.
I was planning to pre-order this at the beginning of the month, but this just makes me mad. Now I'm considering waiting and buying this game used (when it's cheap) and just going without those 7 quests.
I fully agree with this article, especially the part about adventure games. Hotel Dusk, Memory Trace and the Touch Detective games were among my most enjoyed games on the DS.
The Sly games were my favorite action games on the PS2. I've been excited about this one since the E3 trailer.
Good article. I'm not a fan of online gaming myself. Like the writer, after a hard day (and quite often on an easy day too) I like to relax with a little single player gaming. Having lost most of my hearing due to a fall at the age of 10, I'm no social princess either, when I do multi player game, it's with a small group of close friends who's schedules only rarely concede with mine.
Of course online gaming is for a lot of people something they've onl...
Funny article. Coincidentally, I dug this cart out of my collection just before Christmas and popped it into my Retron 3 for a little retro gaming and boy is it tough by today's standard.
===spoiler alert (if anyone cares with a game this old)===
I remember really enjoying this game as a kid. It was one of the few PC games at that time that got me away from my Sega Genesis to do some PC gaming. I still remember the plot twist at the end fondly and can't remember being as surprised by a plot twist until I played SWKOTOR years later. Wish GOG would pick this one up.
Thanks for filling me in on that. Guess I was misinformed about that.
Though I'd rather not have to deal with online pass, it's good to know I won't lose it if I ever have to replace my PS3.
