The best way to "monetize" players is to make a great game, loaded with content from the start with none held back to cynically sell on the first day. People will see the effort, and they will buy your game.
They will then eagerly await your future DLC offerings which were developed entirely separately from the main code, and they will give you money for it provided it delivers substantial value for money.
It's called the Rockstar method...and it work...
Absolutely spot on Vortis...that excuse is an absolute load of garbage. It's content that was specifically held back from the main game in order to sell later.
It's a perversion of the idea of DLC. Rockstar do DLC right, this day 1 rubbish is just that. Rubbish.
Another way to look at these stats is to say that only half of those playing on your platform actually prefer it to other types of gaming. If it was half of ALL gamers, I might be impressed, but as it is they're only stating that half their audience get a better experience elsewhere.
What happens if someone buys a 16gig machine to play casual games, then wants to expand their horizons and try a game with a mandatory install? Then another, then another. Ooops, drive full. Or what happens if they want PS+ after hearing about the amount of free games you get? It can be worked around, but it's an enormous hassle of downloading a title and deleting it straight away just so you've claimed it...then move to the next game you want and repeat. That's not intuitive...
@Them Bones, I disagree entirely. The Resident Evil remake received no such criticism. I'd love them to re-release that game in widescreen HD, as well as give similar treatment to 2 and 3. Plenty of other old school Resi fans would appreciate it as well considering the direction the series is heading.
I can't believe so many missed the obvious sarcasm of your comment in the rush to ignite another format flame war.
I think the next gen should see consoles cost no more than £150 so that more people can get multiple consoles and put an end to this idiotic fanboy rubbish and just get on with playing some damn games.
He signed the contract and was fully aware of the terms....he released a broken experience that has cost a fair amount of gamers a lot of hassle. Fez sold pretty damn well, you telling me he can't afford the cost of a single patch to fix an error that HE created, even if just for public relations sake? How many future sales has he cost his company with this fiasco, even from people who aren't affected but hate seeing a company treat it's customers so poorly?

And that kind of reactionary hyperbolic drivel is precisely why your "opinion" can be immediately filed under bullshit with all the other worthless opinions.
Agreed....Vasquez was awesome, and Ripley was obviously the focus of the series. Kind of a bone-headed decision there.
I'm really looking forward to the HD remake of Tony Hawk...I loved those two games. The later games saw too many gimmicky additions that really added little to proceedings bar a few extra features to stick on the back of the box.
I'd like it to sell well too, maybe persuade Capcom to get off it's ass and remake Resident Evil 2 and 3 like they did with the first one and release all 3 in HD. Well, one can only dream.
A free load of crap is still a load of crap at the end of the day...and most Android games are just that. They are made for a mobile platform and the standards reflect that fact. I'm sure there'll be one or two good games programmed for it, but you can bet they won't be free.
You won't be seeing a Skyrim available on this platform, that's for sure.
Are you actually asking, or are you being a smart-ass? Either way, for the UK models they haven't included a charger as they seem to be marketing it to people who have another DSi or 3DS in the house so you can "just use that charger". They also state it's to save costs...but it's still a dumb decision.
Believe the US gets one included though.
Yep, looking forward to it. Loved the DSi XL, so looking forward to this one and playing Resi Revelations.
As for the lack of charger, I've nabbed a DSi USB charging lead from Amazon rather than a charger...only cost £1.50 and will be more versatile, especially when I get a USB mains plug adapter. They still should have included one though.
What utter rubbish. Even though the 360 game doesn't run at 1080p, it still runs at a higher resolution than your SD TV can ever hope to manage. I will be getting a WiiU, but lets not resort to blatant over-exaggeration in a rush to defend it. I'll trust the Eurogamer article quoted above before someone talking such rubbish any day.
Adding another circle pad to this would have been a massive mistake, and a pointless one. The Circle Pad Pro is a strictly OPTIONAL component for a few 3rd party games...17million plus users would get thrown under a bus with future games if they required a circle pad to work. Nintendo didn't split their market....that's a very sound business decision.
FPS games can work fine on 3DS as is by using the stylus on the screen, or offer an OPTION to use the circle pad. I'll ...
Yes plese! The DSi XL is what a DS should be in terms of size and comfort, so seeing the 3DS get a similar upgrade is awesome news. I don't have huge hands, but the DS Lite and original 3DS are just too cramped for extended use.
Extra battery, comfier to hold? Sold.
2nd nub would have been nice, but that peripheral is entirely optional and only really utilised for a small number of games...so not splitting the market is a wise move by Nintendo. Looking forward to Jul...
Too many people whining about fake violence against a bunch of 1's and 0's...."Games are too violent, waaaaah", well, play the ones that aren't...was that so hard?
"Oh but it's too graphic", BS, violence SHOULD be gritty and nasty, the consequences of violence are NOT pretty, nor should they be presented as such. Bloodlessly killing goons who blink out of existence afterwards is more harmful than the violence in something like The Last of ...
No, it's the same amount of fun it's always been, contrarian's just love to be seen to be rallying against what they perceive as mainstream. The others are simply burned out of playing essentially the same game every year.
If Battlefield 3 sold more, it would be hated on the level CoD is....it's just the way the majority of loud complainers are, popular = crap.
By your own given example you have proved yourself wrong. You can call the Sherlock Holmes movies a collection in a set BECAUSE there are only two of them.
There are far more Silent Hill games than appeared in that "collection", same with this, same with God of War...a Silent Hill collection should include all the games at a higher price, gamers would pay it for a full collection they could play on current hardware. It should certainly include all the mainline gam...
Agreed 100%.
They wonder why less and less people are buying their games? It's because they're sick of being treated this way. The devs are targeting the minority of gamers with more money than sense who will defend everything that devs and publishers do, no matter the cost for gaming as a whole.
