But you're right that the PS3 version looks much better than it does in the demo on this site. It does seem with adjustments to the TV the PS3 can look as good, but if you have to make adjustments for each game or for gaming and then for when you go back to TV, that's a pain.

You're looking at this as a gamer instead of from a business standpoint. If other people start making 360 console or set-top boxes, MS still collects licensing fees. This would also kill any fears that the 360 would die once MS brings out a new console. Plus if this is about cable boxes, the 360 would add 10-15 million users on this the first year. Which then leads to more license fees from MS selling software. You throw in live and 360 functionality for 13.99 a month and people would buy it ...

This could be in line with the rumors of a Microsoft/Netflix deal. And though it's been a while, Microsoft still has yet to act on the deals they made with a lot of the fiber cable operators. I expect to hear something at E3 about set-top boxes for cable and Netflix with 360 game compatibility. That would give the 360 a huge sudden increase in household penetration. They could rent cable boxes for 12-15 bucks a month. Before people think that is too much, most people that have a HD DVR from t...

If the US economy sinks as bad as I believe it will in the next couple of years. Sony might be out of the gaming business. And it will be their own fault.

@Superfragilistic

You're right about the loses actually being larger than the rep said. It's not Kotaku, it's the rep that's not being completely honest. The way the rep states things is still trying to make things seem better than they are. The loses are far more than 3.31 billion. Like you said, the PS2 and PSP are both very profitable. Plus there is the statement about,

"In the past, large-scale investment relating to capital expenditures and research and dev...

The cost of developing on the PS3 won't come down for a few more years. If big companies have people with experience, they're not letting them go because they've invested the time and money to get them that experience. Smaller companies will have to stick with what they can afford for the time being. I saw a quote that a game needs to sell 500,000 copies to break even on the PS3. A lot of those games won't hit that mark. Either because they aren't good or they won't attract an audience.

Put the thing that really got my attention is the fact that there are so many more devs on the 360. All of the PS3 devs are mainly Sony or the bigger companies.

I think the timing is excellent. Now all eyes will be on Madden '09 and people will look at it more critically. Sells have been down each year and so even if it has just a small effect on their sells it hurts. It's obvious how little EA cares when they revealed how small the dev team is. If they wanted to innovate they would have more people working on a game with a 10-11 month development cycle, especially with a game that gets the numbers Madden sells. Football is my favorite sport whether ...

The only euphoria involving Madden is EAs joy that people still buy that crap.
I hope they win, All-Pro 2K8 was the first football game I had bought since 2K5. I haven't bought Madden since Madden '02, and was only used for the ability to design plays. I rarely played games.

But, Microsoft's problem will not be the economy in America. We would have to go into a depression for the economy to really hurt the gaming industry at this point. The industry has become too strong. It's taken away from every other major entertainment segment. People will still buy for their children for Christmas, they will cut back on things for themselves first.

The 360s problems in the rest of the world have a lot to do with our government. Pretty much nobody wants anythin...

It's not about what he said, it's about what he didn't. He mentions how profitable DVD is. He mentions that VOD is three times the profit on DVDs. He mentioned that for every 100 million they make on box office revenue DVD does more. But, he never mentioned anything about what Blu-Ray was bring in. Because it is losing money once you add in the cost of switching out equipment. That is unless they did actually get 400 million from Sony to go exclusive.

Now take what he didn't say...

This is a Sony fanboy site. Anyone looking at the movie industry from a honest or business perspective would make people realize that a new physical format was a mistake. HD DVD could have worked better because if Toshiba had been more honest in their pricing, they would have walked away with the "war". HD was only a dollar more to make per movie. $15 DVD and $18 HD DVD would have sold much better. Blu-Ray can't make money at those prices right now. Several companies are working on ...

Did everyone miss the parts about VOD making 3 times the DVD profit. The desire to move away from physical disc. DVD makes more than theatric releases. They got rid of Newline to save money. He mentions expanding Blu-Ray, but everything else points to it better work soon or else. And I think the only way it works for the studios is if the prices for movies remain high. And high players and disc, along with a couple of other things, is why the format isn't making it. So I don't see how this is...

of a jump over the previous console as it was going into this generation. I should be even bigger considering how much time and money will be put into the coming generation. Sony really is at a disadvantage right now. They are short on money while competing with a company that has tons of cash to spare. The next gen will have a huge advantage in the number of core on the CPUs also. Neither the PS3 or 360 will compete against them. Sony has to continue to develop the Cell(die shrinks) and pair...

but I believe a huge part of MSs problem is the USs standing in the world right now. If you look at the number of copies sold for the PS3s biggest hits, it's still pretty small. The 360 has far more million sellers. Xbox has a huge American flag on it, and the US is about as popular as schoolyard bully right now. The general population of most of our allies don't like us very much and they are the ones that buy the consoles.
