I'm also not surprised to see the Warner comments either. Actually all of this is old news. But this goes to the things fanboys don't look at. The fact that these companies are running a business. Samsung is angry that Blu-ray hasn't caught on. Sony promised big profits and quick adoption and it hasn't happened. They probably took a little upfront money or took on some R & D expense in exchange for big promises. All while Sony was telling them that the PS3 would make Blu-ray king.

The problem is that they're only listing the top twenty Blu-ray titles. There are a lot more movies released. If there was some consistency among all titles, it would mean something. Do the same thing with the top twenty titles period and post those results. There are somewhere between 7 and 8 million Blu-ray players in the wild(US), yet the money spent on Blu-ray disc says that less than 6% of those owners are buying movies. There is no way of making that look like a success. And considering...

Microsoft is working on a version of HDi for DVD and DD. In the next year both could have all the features of Blu-ray(except the space).

Again, just look at the money. 9 million is just 450,000 disc. Compare that to DVD. At that point in DVDs life it was selling more players than that.

The reason I compare Blu-ray with DVD is that everyone keeps claiming it's taking over the disc market. It is no where close. I bet Sony is making the comparison. DVD is the gold standard for home media ri...

15 dollars for catalog titles is high. On DVD those titles can be had for 4 dollars. New release Blu-rays are usually 25-30 dollars. Some times more.

Are you two serious. Did either of you actually look at the graphs or go to the source.

Lucreto, again if Blu-ray is selling, where are the real numbers.

If Blu-ray is actually selling, where is your proof. Sony only allowed actual numbers to be released once, and they were terrible. Sony talks about PS3 sells all the time, and release numbers, but not with Blu-ray. They give percentages that don't mean anything. It's like when Microsoft said there had been huge increases in sells of the 360 the week after the price cuts. But, since the price cuts were leaked so early, the sells would have gone down because people decided to wait. If you sell...

Blu-ray has never done well. Sony just lied and pretended it was selling. If they had admitted how poorly it was doing, people would have been even less likely to buy a player. Forcing it on gamers was their best bet. Blu-ray was and is unnecessary, at least in America. And for a media format that expensive to make it, you need to do well in America. Japan is really the only place where people would care and even there, people are ready to move on to 4k.

Sony's price problem is n...

Stop listing things that you want. Obviously there are other people on this planet who might not want those other things.

Let's look at the PS3 though.

Hard drive: The 360 doesn't have mandatory installs so you don't have to have a hard drive.

Wi-fi: Not everyone plans to go on-line, some, like me, already had a wi-fi adapter.

Blu-ray: Blu-ray doesn't sell very well, especially among gamers so that's a big expense for nothing. If you think ...

Sony must be crazy to have canceled this. It looks like a John Woo movie come to life. The way he slides over things is amazing. You just add some color and you've got a winner. This will sell........... 1 million copies.

Oh, I've got to go. Stranglehold is on sell for 5 bucks.

Pushing the analog stick toward the enemy so that your player kills them. Man, that's like aiming and pulling the right trigger to kill the enemy. I hate when games do that. Geometry Wars sucked too.

Hey, "editor-in-chief", you're a little late for that bandwagon.

it's a shame that so many gamers no nothing about the business end of the thing they love so much. They think fanboy enthusiasm will make a company successful. This article has everything to do with gaming. While the article mentions Sony's stock price, the key is the stock downgrade.

The downgrade means they are no longer recommending that people buy that stock or sell it. They are not sure what direction it is headed. This is not necessarily about the economy, but about the com...

Microsoft has a lot of money. Just about every other Japanese dev is working on the 360. And it seems that a lot of Level 5 games haven't sold that well recently. I think this might be some sort of 360 announcement, especially since it is around the same time as Microsoft's big announcements. Companies get angry with each other all the time. And they make up and do business again. Plus, most small and mid-sized devs can't survive on their own anymore. Also with the 360 outselling the Wii last...

I do believe the price will help because a lot of parents buy consoles. And a lot of parents like to save money. I know people who wait until the last minute to shop for their kids and make $200 impulse buys. So don't assume the price won't make a difference. Where Bruce was right is when he says the majority of consoles are sold. 360 is the first to reach that price and Sony won't be able to follow for some time. Also look at it this way. Sony's money comes from movies, games and electronics...

Bruce is usually a nut, but every speaks the truth sometimes. Not that much truth, but some.

1. You're dead on about the "prediction".

2. When you look at what Sony has lost on the PS3 you have to add what they made on the PS2 and PSP. So the 1.9 billion they lost in the gaming division for '06 was really over 3 billion because they would have made over a billion on the PSP and PS2. Considering that wasn't the only year they lost money and the same thing ap...

Lots of people believe that. They also believe Blu-ray is successful.

If a new release of an old movie beats out all of your new movies, your new movies aren't selling that well. Unless Transformers had several million in sells, Blu-ray is not selling very well. With no major releases on DVD and Blu-ray getting one of it's biggest of the year, a 16% rise in sales suck.

Just the way it is. Sorry if it hurts.

Maybe someone should tell Intel that IBM stole their chip design. I'm sure they would be a little upset to find that that IBM is making P4's.

The R600, and there are several other GPUs that use unified pipes I found out, hit the market last year. The 360 hit the market in 2005. While the tech was being designed for future GPUs by ATI, it was first used in the 360 and it's completion was financed by Microsoft. The R600 is owned by ATI, The Xenos is owned by Microsoft. So they are ...

It was Sony that called Blu-ray a "Trojan Horse". They intended to have the PS3 make Blu-ray a household product. Instead it killed the PS3s early sales. It was all about pushing their proprietary media.
