This is a battle between retailers. Microsoft and Nintendo didn't lower the prices, the retailers are just having sales. Microsoft just did a price cut in Europe and Nintendo has no reason to do one.

lol. If first party had a choice they wouldn't be developing for the PS3 either.

Sorry for the fanboy remark. Just so used to them on this site. And most seem to be Sony fanboys. So again I apologize.

There may be a few, but I would bet most have a few gigs left. The PSN download of Burnout was 3.3gbs with the extra content. Don't believe the Blu-ray hype.

Sony isn't making up any ground on Microsoft. So their plan to win this generation might have to be postponed.

Isn't that three weeks in a row that the 360 has outsold the PS3 in Japan and the world?

And a 2x Blu has a 72mb transfer rate. A DVD has a transfer rate of 10mbs. I wonder what transfer rate a 12x DVD would have. I bet it's higher than 72mbs.

So that means your prices are different. In the US, the 360 was 399.99 at launch. The PS3 was 599.99 and 499.99. With Blu-ray the release price is usually 25.99 while the DVD is usually 14.99.

And our DVDs went up in price a year or so before the introduction of Blu-ray and HD DVD. When I started noticing the price hike, I knew they were going to over charge for the new formats. The hike was to get people used to the higher prices. After the first week or so of release, the DVD g...

In the US, while you can get Blu-ray at 1080p, most television on cable and satellite don't hit that mark. They pretend to be, but they're not. If you have a television that plays 1080i, most channels will be displayed in that.

Since only 30% of the population has adopted it, you have to assume the rest aren't that interested or need lower prices. They will buy as they need a television. Depending on younger people to lead the charge on a $1000 item is going to be a long wait. They've waited on $600 PS3s and $400 Xboxes, so the TVs will have to wait for the general population.

The other thing is replacing DVD collections. If they don't think it's worth it to replace their collect, theirs no reason to u...

And Roadrunner only has half the number of Cell chips that the PS3 has.

No one seems to remember all the movie formats that came between VHS and DVD. WE had several disc formats. The other thing is look at how long it took VHS to make it. Or CDs. DVD took far less time to become the dominate format than any format in A/V history. And DVD never went through the ups and downs Blu is going through. It may have taken DVD five years to get to the top, but it took VHS far longer. And Beta was much tougher competition than HD DVD. Beta is still around and I bet it far o...

Saying that sometimes there are things to read between the lines is not bashing Sony. It's just a fact of life. People say things that have double meanings or are so vague that they have no meaning at all.

Microsoft didn't spread the cost of RRoD over time, they took a billion dollar charge last fiscal year to cover the cost. They did that to make themselves look more profitable later while looking like they lost a lot more money during that year. I believe the extent of the prob...

One day you will grow up and realize that business requires money and just because you brought a system, it doesn't mean the company is rich. Learn to read a financial report and then comment. Sony has money problems. When that is the case, you have to be careful and sometimes that means not doing things you want to do.

Stop pretending to be a pimp and get back on your corner.

What he was saying makes sense. Sony saying that was just setting the ground work for a long generation. If Sony doesn't start amking money in the games division soon, it will be a long time before you see another Sony console. Or you'll see an upgraded PS3.

Peoples inability to read between the lines is what makes it so easy to take advantage of them. Look at politics, nothing gets done because people don't call bulls--- when politicians talk in circles. They just keep voting f...

MS seems to do all of their die shrinks in the summer. They may announce this after Christmas, but release it much later in the year for holiday '09. The "Valhalla" chip is supposed to be much cheaper and use a lot less power so a case shrink and price cut would be possible. A $170-160 slim 360 will sell a ton.

Microsoft will definitely be back in the next few years. Sony should be back at some point. If Sony is back in the next few years, it will be an upgraded PS3. If later, something new. Microsoft should have something mostly new soon, by 2011.

Sony has to be very careful next time. They are bleeding money and have a huge amount of debt. This Christmas will be everything for them. Sony needs to become profitable in the games division again as soon as possible since most of their di...

Thank you for helping the kids out.

Something that the fanboys will deny is that if the game is only 3.3gbs, than it's just another example of why Blu was not needed. If the fanboys can't acknowledge that, than it's proof that it is really slow. So slow that they had to duplicate the game so many times that it needed a 25gb disc.

While Samsung only seems to make TVs,video screens and other electronics, they sell enough of them to make around 8 billion a year in profits. While Sony sells a lot of different products from it's many divisions and makes a profit of 3.5 billion. In fact, Samsung is doing well enough to offer to buy Sandisk for 5.8 billion in cash.

You're actually wrong on several things. When it comes to who Blu-ray is competing with, SSDs are a competitor because of DD. The initial cost are for disc and players that business' started using sometime ago. Those prices will be lower by the time they reach the consumer level. And the Blu-ray tech you're talking about won't much cheaper. A four-layer Blu will be $100 or so when they are released and will have a third of the space. Even if they got the cost down to $70, the HVD is cheaper. ...
