Sony cutting into the profits of one of their two money making consoles is a mistake. If they said there was a price cut of $100 on the PS3, that would be something to worry about. Watching Sony cut into their own revenue would make me sleep better at night if I were MS. Sony thinking people will but a PS2 and then suddenly want a PS3 is stupid.

While their hasn't been as much support in the past for the 360, Konami's desire to appeal to more western gamers means that they want to expand their fan base. And the best way to do that in America is through the 360. As much as the rest of the PS3 fanboys hate to admit it. America will spend. To a fault. So making the next one for the 360 makes sense. If people won't buy your product because you want to maximize your profit by using several consoles, then screw them. Those people are retar...

When it comes to the anti-trust suits, I'm not to sure what the case was in Europe, but the American suit was pure BS. The American suit said MS forced their products on people. Nonsense. The problem was that it was what people were use to. People used Netscape. But in America, brand recognition is king. A link to Navigator and Earthlink and other items is on Windows, people chose to use the MS products. In some cases it was better, some it was brand. But to say you have to separate your prod...

I remember when this happened. Sony threatened Kotaku, Kotaku stood their ground. Sony then apologized. Kotaku reported information that they heard, isn't N4G a site that reports things that someone heard. Doesn't it link to stories from multiple sources about things people heard or were told. I thought that was why people came to this site. Information that's usually repeated before the company involved tells it for themselves. I got news fanboys, when a site or newspaper finds out something...

I like Gamasutra too. But any source with some real research is fine because even propaganda contains truth. It never assumes people are complete idiots. You just have to take what's worthwhile and add it to what you know for fact.

Now as far as MS and IP, I'm not sure where people get the idea that MS owns Gears. Do you really look at Mark Rein and say "That's a guy that's going to give away a valuable IP". He looks more like a puppeteer than puppet. When it comes to t...

Actually this is a double edged sword. It will make devs experiment and great new game play could come out of it. But, a lot of aspiring devs could throw something together or go too far with a concept and have Sony foot the bill for whatever the hell that is they made. It could also make devs be less budget conscience. I bet there is a lot more to this type of deal. Like limits on expenses, quality and rights. I would bet there are options for ending the deal for both parties and limits on t...

@FlameBaitGod

While devs don't have to, the objective is to make money. This guarantees they can't lose money. If they never sell one copy of the title, big deal Sony already covered your cost. The same as it would be if MS paid you 100,000 for exclusivity.
If it does sell, it's all gravy.

@thewhoopimen

I think you need to re-read the article. Where does it mention anything about MS Arcade policies. It doesn't. Name an Arcade property that MS owns....

It's nothing like Microsoft paying for exclusivity. PS fanboys are amazing. This is exactly the same thing. It takes away the risk for the dev. And while MS buys exclusives and restructures in-house. Sony buys whole companies. Which again is the same thing as paying for exclusives.

What changed for MS over the last quarter? How about the new Zune. It was a dismal failure. They couldn't pay people to take one. And don't forget that MS spent millions advertising the new Zune for basically no return. You think they might have signed some kind of deal with Netflix too. They might have. And as far as the price of the 360, people seem to think MS doesn't get price adjustments like other companies. Search the net, they started getting them after year one of the 360 and they ha...

You have got to be one of the most delusional fanboys on this site. The 360 is not losing money firstly. They make a profit on each console sold. They also sell more games than PS3 which is more profit. You mention the financial reports but obviously have no idea what counts on MS's ED division. Sony's games division is games period. E & D includes Zune(which is failing), Surface(still more R & D than anything), marketing for Microsoft Office for Mac(no idea why), all of MS's TV and W...

of the top selling games from each platform. There would be a bigger difference. But, I do agree that with the install base of each console, some of the multis did better on the PS3. But to leave out games like Forza and Mass Effect that sold well is disingenuous. All of Sony's "biggies" are there, while some of Microsoft's aren't.

And for people that think the length of time games like Resistance and Motorstorm have been out has anything to do with the numbers, you're...

The thing articles like that don't mention is that is what they lost that year. Take away the PS3 and that division makes over a billion in each year. Plus that was after launch. Look at Sony's annual reports. The year or two before the launch were a lot less than they would have been without the PS3.The Cell and Blu-ray together are estimate to have cost 3 billion together to develop. So Sony has lost over 6 billion on the PS3 actually. And there are no signs that that will change.

Blu-Ray has come close to that new yet. $10 is still more than twice the price. And listen to what one of the retailers said. The studios were expecting larger margins on Blu-ray. (Translation) They were looking to rape the public and pad their pockets to cover the losses on all the crap they green light every year.

The numbers from Halo and Gears have been verified. The Killzone numbers are speculation but will be verified soon. But they are most likely right. Looking at it from the standpoint of Killzone being a "Killer Ap" as the story puts it, those numbers suck. Halo and Gears sold over a million in a day. Microsoft let everyone know it too. Sony, on the other hand, has been completely silent. Killzone may be a great game, but it is no killer ap. And it will ultimately lose money when you ...

Leaving out things like RRoD and the PS3 leaves that story completely lacking. How about Microsoft making the original Xbox with off the self parts and getting screwed on price later.That would go ahead of RRoD. It cost MS billions. But that was matched or exceeded by the PS3 which has cost Sony billions. It turned a profitable PSP and PS2 into non-factors by wiping out any profit either made for the last three years.
