Both of you make some good points, bubbles to each for that. Nice to see arguments based on something. But on topic, I have to disagree, not just because it's Pachter, but because he's wrong. While Sony has been somewhat clear with their desire for a ten year cycle, Microsoft would be making a huge mistake.

First there is the power issue. The PS3 is slightly more powerful and that will eventually have to be addressed. By 2011, it surely will need to be. There is far to much new t...

Things like this make me wonder why people don't believe it will be time for new consoles. I've said over and over that tech moves too fast for that ten year nonsense. 2010 should be the year. If not then 2011 at the latest. Tech like this makes both the PS3 and 360 look last gen.

during that second part of the war they kicked our a$$. I mean after all, we did leave. And we just started going back after thirty-some years. I'd say that was a$$ kicked. It's okay though, can't win 'em all. War always works better when your people actually believe in what they're fighting for. Never when you force random poor people off the street to go.

On topic though, this is fake. Activision does all Call of Duty games now. I believe they forced it in their contract after...

I don't like this President that much either. But I really couldn't stand the last one. But on topic, I think it's more about nationalism also. I remember when the original Xbox came out. The Japanese said it was too big in pretty high numbers. Tiny apartments you know. Now the PS3 is the big console on the block and it doesn't seem to matter as much. I do understand the quality issues, but considering how cheap they make it for them and still cover the repair cost, it's a moot point. Plus as...

Good post. Bubbles.

I only disagree on one point. The release of new consoles. It is not different to release a new console every 5-6 years. The PS original was 1994, the PS2 2000 and The PS3 2006. Six years apart. The PS3 would have been 2005 if it hadn't been for Blu-ray delays. The same with Nintendo. Super Nintendo Entertainment System, (SNES, 1990), Nintendo 64 (N64, 1996), Nintendo GameCube (GCN, 2001) and Wii (2006). Mostly 5 years apart. The only real difference is the me...

That inferior console nonsense is a joke. You paid $200 dollars more for a console just because Sony wanted to get more money in the movie business. In doing so they ruined both their standing in electronics and games. They spent over 3 billion to develop Blu-ray and the Cell and neither has paid off. They've convinced you that technology stands still for Sony. I guess technology moves forward when Sony says so too.

And while the 360 does have a defect, at least MS is willing to...

It changes way too fast not to move on. And for all of the people saying next year is too early, I assume you're all still playing your PS2 and waiting on the PS3. Otherwise you apparently don't think it's too early. The Playstation was launched in 1994. The PS2 in 2000. And the PS3 in 2006, they wanted to launch it in 2005. Each 6 years apart. If the new Xbox launched in 2011, it would not be too early. Or 2010. Don't be fooled so easily by Sony's nonsense. They screwed up. The PS3 was too e...

Fanboys are pitiful. All fanboys. But I have to give it to Sony for so completely brainwashing their fanboys. The PS2 came out in 2000, the PS3 6 years later. It would have come out in 2005 if it hadn't been for the blu-ray delays. So it seems that a five year life-cycle is fine with Sony fans.

But Sony overextended this time. They spent too much and made an overly expensive console. What to do, what to do? Oh, just tell your fans that a ten year life-cycle is the way it works. ...

The PS3 cost so much originally because of Blu-ray and the Cell processor. There is no reason that Microsoft would have to try to make a leap that far ahead. Maybe you should look at computers, there are 10 different cards out there today that are far more powerful than what the PS3 and the 360 have. Blu-ray cost Sony hundreds of dollars per console. They were $240 each, the 360 was a little more than twice that when it was introduced, for everything. You need to look up something called Moor...

I'm curious to know this. It seems that a lot of the PS3 fans on this forum believe the PS3 will be the most powerful console available for the next ten years. I know that isn't close to the truth. Agree or disagree?

If you mean by Sony's plan the whole ten year thing, the 360 might be around for ten years. But if you believe the PS3 will be the most powerful console for ten years, you're kidding yourself. The technology is readily available for a console to come out next year that will make the PS3 look like the PS2. I know the PS3 is powerful, but technology has marched on. It's a middle of the road machine now.

@raztad Are you kidding. As long as they get better prices from suppliers, the...

It will surely happen in 2011 if not. Microsoft has everything financially working in it's favor. Announcing a new console at this E3 wouldn't chase people away from the 360 if there was another price drop announced. With the new chip and more negotiations with suppliers, they could have the Arcade priced at $179 this year. It's funny that Morganfell believes announcing a new Xbox would kill the 360, I guess that's because history has shown the same thing with the PS3 and the ps2. With rumors...

It cost them far less for DD, yet they price it the same or more. Look into the profit per item for DD compared to any media. DD is much more profitable for them.

The 35 rank is in overall revenue. When it comes to actual profit, Microsoft is a top ten company.

There are a couple of things that make this a better option than Blu-ray or any other format out right now.

First there is the space. Blu-ray may get up to 1 TB in 3 or 4 years. By that time holographic disc will be well over that. The theoretically 3.9 TBs.

The other thing is transfer speed. They expect transfer rate of 125MBs, not Mbs like DVD and Blu-ray. It's way faster.

It would work on Blu-ray players which is actually good for Sony. They can push ...

I believe they are going to make the Gold tier free and they are going to introduce a VIP level. They are doing free weekends to get an idea of how many people would use the service if it was free so that they can update their infrastructure. They are going to go to dedicated servers and start doing MMOs. Just a guess, but it's time to push Live and create other ways to pay for it. MMO's would provide some cash.

While people in America don' care, if they're on version 7, people in Japan seem to. So it's a good move for MS. And for people thinking Square is somehow losing money by not making games for the PS3 instead, do you really believe MS isn't making this worth their while. Square would be out of business, like so many others lately, if MS wasn't either providing them with cash for these games or making enough sales to profit. This is a business to the companies involved, not charity.

Oh, no I'm not. Corporations own the politicians and judges. The regular guy can't catch a break anymore. This is why people need to learn to vote differently. In the US, no matter how little the two parties do for regular people, and continue to do anything and everything companies want, people continue to keep them in power. I would vote for a rabid raccoon before I would ever vote democrat or republican again. Those two parties stand for over priced "higher education", corporate ...

name more than ten games that require more than a DVD. You can't name ten released in the US. You might have some JRPGs. Oh I'm sorry, you don't actually have many of those. The area for security is 1.2gbs for 360. That leaves over 7 gbs, more than 70%. Sony doesn't put the majority of it's games on PSN for download because it would prove the games are all 5-6gbs. Sony has a bunch of ten hour or less games, most much less. Blu-ray is a joke and most studios are beginning to push DD and VOD no...

There are a few games that need more space. You can still count them on your hands this generation. And this generation is almost over. It may not have worked out financially for them, but it's amazing they were able to sway so many with little advertising. Just a few shill reporters and a few never say die fanboys.

More proof studios aren't sold on Blu-ray.
