it's the every third month link to Blu-ray.com. It always seems to be doing better. I guess no one wants to here about a niche product when it's doing normal. Just when it has a good week. Plus, what's the deal with the constant up % stuff. By now everyone knows last years sale were in the tank. Up 119% does mean much when sales weren't that good to begin with.

I looked back a few weeks on Blu-ray.com and they never mention numbers for other weeks. I bet they wouldn't have the g...

Games don't have to go multi when they're cheaper to make, you get support from the platform holder and the games sell better on that console.

And I read your comparison. You didn't mention that that controller is more expensive. If you buy a battery pack and controller, it's only a few dollars higher. And when the PS3 battery dies, how much does Sony charge to replace it. I can't believe you mentioned Home as a plus. Nobody uses it. Blu-ray either. The sales show that. It's been...

It's amazing that people disagree with numbers coming directly from the people the very companies involved look to to know the sales.

@Argento-Nox Look again. The article is referencing NPD numbers. One of the same companies Sony and MS look to know what's working and what's not. As far as all of the things you listed. It still comes down to sales. As much as fanboys like to say it doesn't, the reality is that gamers buy the games they like. If your sales are low, it's not import...

The link below and the fact that MS said several years ago that they would wait to talk about things when they were about to release says different.

Stop the fanboy nonsense.

This is a bunch of QTEs. The laziest form of programming there is. You don't have to figure out any crazy possibilities the player might come up with in a open world game. It's pretty picture on a rail. If the whole game is what they've shown so far, I would never purchase this. The graphics are incredible, the idea of characters deaths being permanent is nice. But over all it seems boring as hell. A symbol flashes on the screen and lights at the point they want you to push the button? I don'...

If the speeds are on the level of Holographic disc, it would take as long as you think. Plus it not like you be using all of the space.

@Morituri I agree with that. But it might be why MS got involved early. To make sure that wouldn't happen.

There was no mention of development cost in the article. This could have been a byproduct of other research. The possible deal it talks about could have included financing. It might just be a lot cheap to produce period. read the original source. This is a new way of using DVD. This product might not be very expensive at all. And even if it did cost a couple of billion to finish development, Microsoft could pay half to get the right to make their own parts. In five years, DVD parts will cost ...

Holographic technology is already on the market in some areas and it blows Blu-ray out of the water. In every way. There will always be better technologies. As long as someone wants to make a buck.

I think the real key to this technology would be to make it a hard drive. If you make it re-writable and use it that way, you could still use multiple DVDs and just load everything to the console. You solve all problems that way. People still have physical disc to keep and sell. And th...

The difference is that MS makes 14-17 billion in profits every year. They also have 0 debt. And over 30 billion sitting around in a drawer. The two companies are on the opposite end of the financing stick. Sony has far more debt than cash on hand so they couldn't afford this. They thought it would be worst so Stringer is doing something right though.
But the headline is dead on. They can't afford a price cut unless they have a major cost reduction coming to the PS3. At least $150 worth...

This tech could be great in this and any generation. Just looking at it from the standpoint of tacticle shooters. You could use hand gestures to direct your team. To direct fire on a position. To make your team move to a position. If this can not only see your hand but what each finger is doing, you could use all types of hand signals. Use this with voice commands and the battle is more real than ever. Imagine a game like Ghost Recon 4. You are in an ambush. You point to a position and use vo...

The problem is, you have to have some sort of quality control. If you can't gaurantee the product to some extent. If you can't expect to get sued. The timing is a shame. Nvidia already had money problems because of the forced price drops last year. They can't afford to get ripped in court on top of the new competition in graphics cards from ATI.

Europeans need to get over the we are as important thing. You guys had to form a group to beat the GDP of the US. Alone none of you comes close. So from that standpoint the US is the country that matters. The other thing is, per capita, Americans spend more than everyone else. So if a product is to really succeed, most likely it has to be big in the US. We're 5% of the population and use 25% of the oil. Pop culture that makes a splash here, usually makes it everywhere. And while PS3 sales are...

At the current numbers, if Sony can convince people that this generation will last for 20 years they might catch up.

EA doesn't seem to advertise that much more than anyone else. Besides Madden. How do you lose that much and have 31 million sellers. They are working on something else. Something expensive. There have been rumors before that EA was working on a console and this makes me wonder. I mean really, we know they don't really do big development teams. Madden is done by 35 people. They definitely don't spend time fixing problems on those franchises from year to year. I think it's a console. They can't...

And Sony's reward for spending 50-60 million on Killzone was what? Oh, just over a million copies sold. Let's say MS spent 25 million for advertising, they sold over 8 million copies. That equals a return of over 500 million dollars. Somebodies 50 million investment paid off, someones didn't.

You need to check. I've said over and over, if Sony had some impressive sales numbers they would shouting them from the roof tops. But they don't because the numbers aren't there. Three years in, Blu-ray is still less than 10% of the movie market. It hasn't changed since last year. Check Home media Magazine every week instead odf when Batman comes out and you'll see a lot of 4% months.

I read all of the statements he made. They all seem pretty reasonable.

The last time I checked studio support of Blu-ray isn't paying off. The movies aren't selling. Only a few really move any copies three years in. Microsoft hasn't expressed any interest in going into the movie business. And the Chinese blue diode players already have major studio support. Studios want money, they will not turn down access to a fast growing billion consumer market. There is a big world out there. It doesn't end at the US border. Most Americans don't even realize that some of th...

The PS3 is $400 now. They won't drop the price $200 by next year. That's why MS needs to move next year. MS made mistakes with the 360, they made mistakes with the original. It doesn't mean they will automatically make mistakes again. They own their chips this time, fixed that mistake. They will do better quality control next time, and fix that mistake. The thing a lot of people don't seem to get is that while MS is in a hole in gaming, it's because of two mistakes. The first is not owning th...
