Releasing after this Christmas would be far dumber than releasing this February.
It wouldn't necessarily be stupid. Especially in the US. Late January early February would be just as people are receiving their income tax returns. A well priced Wii U($299) would be a big seller. Even with just a few titles. The Wii U will be much more powerful than most think.
Look at Amazon. There are several games that come out in early March that are also listed for the Wii U. That Zelda demo could have been more than just a demo. And they could keep new Mario games...
THQ sold a good amount of games over the last couple of years. Their problem is trying to make a quick buck with dumb movie tie-ins and pushing a new version of games that sell marginally each year. They need to downsize and concentrate on what actually works for them. Support SR3 and wait a couple of years for the next wrestling game. And make a Red Faction that has destruction but is not just about how much can be destroyed.
Blu-ray is the reason Sony is in third place. If they hadn't added Blu-ray, things would be different. Sony's Blu-ray marketing push managed to fool a lot of people into believing it was needed. But it failed to convince them to pay more for movies. Blu-ray was less than 17% of the physical market this year in the US. Five years in. There was an almost 9% decline in the number of physical disc sold. Disc are dying fast and Blu-ray will never be what Sony wanted. And spent million for....
I don't think MS struggles to make exclusive content. They have billions that they do nothing with. They could buy ten companies or form ten companies today to do exclusive content if they wanted to. It's just a different way of looking at the business.
Why buy SuckerPunch when you can buy Gears exclusivity for ten million in advertising. Sony ends up paying millions for the company and millions more to develop the game. MS pays 10 million and receives 40+ million ba...
If you have checked Sony's financial reports you'll see that they just didn't have the money to spend on advertising for awhile. They were losing a ton of money each year. That was being turned around and they had started to make a profit again. Then the tsunami hit and they had another terrible year. The reality is they just didn't have the money to advertise. Too many losses and too much debt.
Even in BC2 a smart player could work their way out of a spawn camp. Teamwork and smoke could usually get you out of a spawn trap. The real problem is the lone wolf mentality of most gamers. That why I like squads in BF. You can spawn on someone. And BF has multiple spawn spots in any given area.
These sales are a sign that the next Xbox will be announced at CES. They are dumping as many 360s as possible before the inevitable 360 price drop with the announcement of the new console releasing next year.
There is no reason it can't be dual GPU. Many for get the current 360 basically uses and APU. And it uses a lot less power than the original 360. Add to that that a CPU next year will be either 32 or 22nm and there are far fewer heat issues. Heat won't be a problem. I still believe they will stick with IBM. The Power architecture IBM uses has already been used to being make fused chips. Plus the Power 8 should be available next year, if not, early for MS anyway. And that architecture ...
EA never seems to have smooth launches. It seems to me that they should let MS take over the server responsibilities. EA is too cheap to do it right. That or they just aren't capable. Either way, let MS handle it.
The scary thing about this is that they announced for the Wii and Wii U and stock prices drop. I can't understand why people continue to invest in a system so clearly based on speculation. They could announce for other consoles at a later time. But if they don't this says a lot about the potential power of the Wii U. The rumors about the Wii U in the past lean toward it be more than twice the power of the PS3 and 360. If that is the case, this is what I would expect. And this will be ...
The Wii U will have plenty of AAA games. I find it strange that people believe a console with old tech will be expensive. The rumors on the controller and the fact that it existed were right. If the rumors of the CPU and GPU are right too, it will be cheap to make. All of the parts are more powerful than the PS3 and 360 but are old at this point and therefore cheap. With the large disc space the AAA title devs will look at the Wii as better option than the other two. The PS4 and 720 will have...
Most games never use more than a DVDs worth of space. Hard to believe so many still under the Sony propaganda spell. Download a couple of games off of PSN. Blu-ray was and is all about charging more for movies and who gets the royalties. Not space.
@kikizoo,
With that logic he might as well add Madden to the list. It's about as popular in Europe as rugby is here. And at least the rugby game might be good.
@MYK,
It's amazing that Americans still believe in that American exceptionalism crap.
I hadn't realized Sunday ticket had gotten so expensive. That said, this is a huge coup for Sony in the US. I don't own a PS3. But this will make me get one. Sony needs to take on part of the cost to get the price down. But this could finally pull them ahead on the US sales.
@Dlacy,
I hear you on the price. But if you go to bars for games you would still come out cheaper on Sunday ticket. Food and drinks would run you thirty a game. If you just stay ...
All of this talk of MS needing to buy something is crazy. Many apparently aren't reading the quarterly reports. They are making plenty of money without in-house studios. Buying studios is the equivalent of making your own dinner when there is a restaurant across the street making the same meal for less that taste better than what you made.
I'd stick to buying exclusivity on games that show promise instead of spending millions to acquire studios and then millions more...
Saying it's limitless is going a little overboard. But the fact that the key to Kinect is the software means it will continue to develop as it's fed more power. Leaving the processing in the console was a smart move because it means you can plan for the needed power in future consoles. With improvements to the software it will allow for far more than it can do now. The main limitations will be what people can com up with. Most people are kinda short sighted. So to many it doesn't ...
I'm not sure how a game like MW could be used as a training tool for war. It's not that accurate. Shooting a real gun and a VG gun are two very different things. This guy was obviously a nut as are all people that believe basic VG are training tools. Fox and other conservative commentators aren't nuts though. They are opportunist.
That's the thing for Sony. They are in a tricky situation. It's too early to kill the PS3. It's only been making money for a year and a half. Announce the PS4 and you kill it unless PS4 is coming out in 2014.
They could announce and do some target videos and tell people it will be the most powerful console ever and will be totally future proof. They'll believe it.
But seriously I think once people see the real power of the Wii-U and what the ...
