Late doesn't mean inferior. Coming in late could mean that they will have updated infrastructure. I would think that MS updates on a regular basis since they charge. Sony would most likely do so less since they have to cover all of the cost. No reason why Nintendo couldn't take some of the profitable on day one Wii money and throw it into a network. That would go a long way toward explaining their recent losses.

Normally I'd expect Sony fanboys to tear into an article without reading it or even if they did, disagreeing simply if it wasn't all Sony FTW.But you can't blame them for reading this headline and thinking anything other than it was written by a complete moron. The next article from this person will be that McDonald's needs a name change. Obviously has never heard the words brand recognition. At least not together.

But gamers should stop bragging about crap. They go on and on about exclusives that are crap and no reason for anyone to buy a console. If they mattered, people would be buying them and they would be selling more consoles. But the exclusives argument is a joke as long as the exclusives are crap and no one buys them. I agree that developers can get by with exclusives. But my point was that this was one of those titles that was used to say the PS3 was better because it had it. This should make ...

28, I agree about having to buy more than you need sometimes. But it doesn't come close to outweighing the advantages of the points system. I may be stuck with a dollars worth of points sometimes. But I will always have an account and there will eventually be something else I want to buy. If I have 80 of 1600 points left and I paid $15 for those points, it's still a discount on money.

But wouldn't that theory only apply to stupid people. Unfortunately, they will screw up something somewhere no matter how easy you make it for them. You can't bubblewrap the world for them. 400 points is $5. If you don't realize you just paid 50 bucks at the register, you should go back to school and learn how to count again. I understand where you're going. Like feeling better about 2.99 as opposed to 3 bucks. But people need to learn to think a little better.

they don't need it because there are other options. Everyone acts as if Blu-ray is the only high capacity disc available. They could go back to HD DVD. They could just use CBHD. They could use Quad layer DVDs with V-shaped pits. They could use multiple DVDs and allow them to work off the hard drive through a single disc. Nintendo proves that you don't have to use it because they have their own 25gb disc that isn't Blu-ray.

The license fees on Blu-ray are too high...

There are a lot of post here and I'm sure some of these people have said exclusivity is key. Then someone mentions sales and they say sales don't matter "I just want to play great games." This is why exclusivity means little or nothing. Companies won't keep making titles you won't buy. Used or heavily discounted doesn't count either.

If exclusivity matters so much, buy the titles. That's why Insomniac is going multi-plat. They can't get ...

I wouldn't be surprised if they all do something like this. It's no different than any other software. They make no additional money on used games. Stores sell used games like they are the IP holder. It's amazing that no one hasn't sued for a cut of the sale in the first place. Gamestop cheats people. Buying 3 week old games for $25 and selling them for $55. They should get cut out.

But I think they can come up with ways to allow people to loan their games ou...

Sony cuts deals with MS all of the time. Sony computers use Windows. Some Blu-ray disc use VC-1 for their codec. But MS will not use Blu-ray. They don't need it. There are other options. Nintendo isn't using it and neither will MS.

The belief that the next Xbox won't play used games based on Gamestop closings is silly. Gamestop has a poor business model. It worked 3 years ago, but now they have competition. Everyone offers a better deal than they do. Amazon will give you $6-8 more on some titles. Amazon was offering $32 for FIFA 12 last month while Gamestop was giving less than $24. Add to that the fact that they have little else to really make money. The margin on new game sales is small. And they got killed on RRo...

Stop making sense. That doesn't fly here.

I actually think the reason people have concentrated on Kinect is because it's new tech. But I believe the next Xbox will really open up it's ability. MS was trying to open up new markets just like Nintendo did. I don't own a Kinect, but the footage from ME3 makes me consider it. It seems to work really smoothly. Kinect will be used for more hardcore games and a lot of this will go away.

But I think ...

I think it isn't used right on the Xbox and the PS3. They need to think outside the box on uses and intended audience. It just might have been released ahead of it's time on the other consoles. Packaged and marketed differently and it could have sold fine on those consoles.

Console makers own there parts. They are not off the shelf, don't have all of the parts of off the shelf parts and can be shopped to anyone that can make a chip for production. They use modified parts made just for their machine. They wouldn't use those parts. They should be able to manufacture APUs based on IBM and ATI technology for under the cost of either of those parts. That's a CPU and GPU for less than either. Easy.

Hammock, I think the PS4 will have to use a modified Cell processor since Sony is short on cash. If all of the rumors are true or close on the Wii U and next Xbox, they will be very similar machines. The same machine in a lot of ways with one having a lot more power based on newer parts and other tech. Same as this generation. The Wii uses a CPU and GPU similar to the 360 right down to the 3 or 10MBs memory daughter chip on the GPU. Given that the differences next generation will lean more he...

Elite have you also figured the added optimization of APU's. My understanding is that the 360s with Valhalla chips are actually more powerful than the other configurations even though they are using the same parts. And that is without allowing the CPU and GPU to assist each other. The Valhalla chips had to be throttled back to keep developers from using that added ability that the Falcon and other chips wouldn't have to keep the games consistent.

I think it makes a lot of sense. I believe the next Xbox will have fused chips anyway. So a couple of 4 core APUs could provide a lot of power. Two APUs with modified 66 series GPUs fused to four core Power8 GPUs would be very powerful. The idea of the part being 20% more powerful than the Wii U standalone would go out the window if it was modified. Plus with faster RAM and the ability to use CPU computing power and vise versa would make it pretty good. That would also make it a cheap APU. ...

The thing is Frosty when you buy a discounted points card, you can still buy a discounted game or item. You can increase your discount even further by waiting for a sale on the item you want. I try to stock up too. If true, hopefully I can stock up again.

Not surprised. I told one of their workers to start looking a couple of years ago. Their business model is based on selling a ton of used games and extended warranties. Just about anyone offers better deals on trade-ins so their stock has to be strained. The margins on new games is much smaller than people realize. And they must have gotten killed with those warranties on 360s. They don't have other items to support their main business like Best Buy and Amazon.

Oh well....

Points are far better than cash. There are certain things that are a slight problem. But there are two huge advantages. Like xPhearR3dx mentioned, no tax. You can buy a code on Amazon and have no shipping or taxes. Second and by far the biggest to me is point cards go on sale. When was the last time you got cash for less than it was worth.

Toys R Us has an annual sale each year for their mascot's birthday. Buy two get one free. It also counts for points cards. Meaning you...
