I agree that consoles are being taken over by the call of duties. But the reality is that we are peaking on the cost of development. The next generation should be nothing more than a much more powerful versions of the same consoles. The movement will be in the number of cores and the amount of RAM. Of course there will be new technology involved with the machines, like additional threads and bigger caches. But it will be basically the same chip and therefore will have very slight learning cur...

Just commenting on the fact the Stallone and Arnold had surgery after the movie. They are damn near 70. Time to act like the young actors.

Complete with that cool ending where half the old a-- cast ends up in the hospital. Oops. Spoilers.

I assume you don't use your PS3 for Blu-ray movies. Or your phone as a camera. Or for music. Or the Internet. It's just for calls right. I swear if Apple adds one more feature to the iPhone I'll go crazy.

This is how technology works. This is what the public has made clear they want through their purchases. A handful of games make up the vast majority of the revenue in the gaming industry.

Take away the Wii, which most consider for kids, Call of...

Oh, if they only had a brain. Seems hate is always based on ignorance.

CasualGamer the key IMO is that parents don't have the time to spend with their kids. I think the fact that most kids have two working parents now limits what the kids can do. If parents were there to push a little more variety things would probably be different. People like to blame games because they would never blame it on money hungry slave driving corporations that are the real problem.

You really believe a GPU two generations later will be less powerful than the ones before it? the 6670 is a third more powerful. And I believe MS will be running dual GPU's.

People seem to forget is that PCs push horsepower to get things done. Consoles don't need as much because the specs are known. It's like the difference between snow tires and all-terrain tires. All-terrain works okay. But snow was made for that purpose. Consoles are optimized platforms.

Another forgotten thing is that when the 360 was released, it was better than most PCs. It had more cores on the CPU. And was the first mass production unified shader GPU. The next co...

Shackdaddy836, actually you need to study a little more yourself. Console makers own their chips. They can take them to who ever is willing to make them the cheapest. IBM or ATI might help make them based on their parts, but they are modified using MS or Sony money.

The 360 cost $526 per console to manufacture when it launched. After die shrinks, fusing the GPU and CPU, moving manufacturing from place to place and other improvements the cost of making a 360 is much cheaper. ...

It may take more money and time to develop games that look that way, but it will happen next generation. I disagree with Darkride66. Sony now understands that tools are important. Microsoft always understood that. It takes less time and money to develop a game for the 360 than it does for the PS3 because of the architecture and the tools.

In the next generation developers will most likely be working more powerful versions of the same consoles. On the PS3 it will be an update...

Sony did this to themselves.

All the hate in the world can't kill Sony. But a lack of support by Sony's fans is killing Sony.

The number of don't hate Sony, love Vita articles will increase as we get closer to launch. Paid off journalist won't save Sony either.

Mayberry, the problem is that those exclusives don't sell very well at the highest price point. And when that happens, Sony loses money or barely profits. If that continues to happen Sony will go out of business.

You should look up the article from earlier this week about Sony's stock price being down-graded. BBB+ is basically bad credit. And just like a person with bad credit things will become harder for Sony now when it comes to money. They will pay more interest ...

Games are no longer in a separate division. They are included with TV's and other electronics. I will agree that the games aren't the problem and that it is more about the TVs. But the problems for Sony originate with the games division. With the decisions that Ken Kutaragi made. And getting out of trouble may mean skipping a console generation. They don't have the hundreds of millions to spare for the R & D needed to keep up with Microsoft. Nintendo understands that. Sony nee...

Sony's problem is using fanboy's rants for corporate judgment. Fanboys holler about exclusives and then fail to support them. They wait for them to go on sale for a third off and wonder why the company is having trouble.

But they painted themselves into this corner. The arrogance of past has come back to bite them in the a--. That steak dinner looks a little dry now. They've brainwashed people into thinking gaming isn't a business and now they might be stuck ...

I believe Sony's mistake is trying to do everything proprietary. They can never just accept that someone else has a good product and just go with it. That arrogance put them in this position.

Blu-ray instead of HD DVD. They couldn't just accept going in with Toshiba on HD. They wanted the majority of the money. Blu-ray then caused the PS3 to cost $600 which killed early sales. Lower market-share gets less developer support. Plus they had to pay studios to get them to...

As long as there are companies out there like gamestop, developers will miss a ton of sales. That leads to developers going out of business. And that will lead to Activsion and their CEO buying all of the IP we love and charging $100 for a title. He has made it clear that games are too cheap.

If making sure developers make as much money as possible keeps a-holes like Kotick from dictating the industry I'm happy to buy new. I rarely buy used anyway.

People who buy used games buy them when they are cheaper. Prices come down when they aren't selling. Same situation, different seller.

$36 is cheap. Three movies. Plus you get points through the awards program.

Sony will be charging soon enough. Taking care of a network ain't cheap. PSN+ was just the start. Kaz will have to make changes. Even if it isn't at a profit, they can't keep giving it away for free.

You're talking apples and oranges. If game developers charged the same mark-ups that car manufacturers charged very few would buy games. If game developers got the tax breaks car manufacturers got more would still be in business. If they got the corporate welfare that car manufacturers get every game developer that ever existed would still exist.

A car made for 9,000 gets sold for 17-20,000. Even bigger mark-ups for trucks.

A game that cost 25 million to ...

Eventually they will sell their games at a cheaper price. The difference is when they lower the price, they still make money. When someone else re-sells their game they get nothing and they make far less than they should have. Gamestop shouldn't be able to make millions by selling someone else's IP. Those millions should go to the developers.

The best environment will be when they have to lower their prices faster depending on demand. It's in our best interest as...
