Everyone give stuff away at conferences. That's different. They actually came up with a word for it. Conferences that have absolutely nothing to do with gaming give stuff away.
The problem harming profitability isn't giving away free games. The return is getting people to pay for online. If you gave away ten games that barely sell anymore and it gives you enough money to cover the cost of the free on-line you have saved yourself money. You have lost nothing giving the games away. Keep up on a free online system for 10s of millions of gamers is expensive though.
Breaking up Ensemble was one move I didn't like. I believe a large part of the team was kept and added to another team. Hopefully they will get back to RTSs.
They may not work but I'm sure you will be able to re-download the games. They should be attached to your PSN Name.

I think you're ignoring the fact that the guys that make the game say it's possible on the next generation consoles. The architecture of the APUs allows more efficient use of the GPU to help the CPU. A lot of the needed power is there in the GPU. The PS4 has part of the GPU specifically set aside for compute functions. Not many people have really seem what this architecture can do. Here's my deal. Most of the games you and fanboys go on about don't sell. They aren't things that I would buy. I was interested in the PS3 until they announced the price. I don't want LBP or Battle Royal. I don't own a Kinect. Those games don't appeal to me.

Mike, Microsoft has a variety of games. They may not do them all in-house, but they are available on the 360. There is nothing that says Sony's method of producing a lot of exclusives does anything for them. All of the evidence says it's a waste of money.
The Vita doesn't sell, the vast majority of those exclusives don't. It only matters to the vocal minority. And they are the only ones. If it mattered to anyone else the games would sell more.
Microsoft has over 50 billion dollars in cash and gain another 10 to 15 additional a year.

They can walk and chew gum with that kind of money. So they can focus on a lot of stuff. Both consoles will have separate processors for media function so it won't have anything to do with gaming.
If this was ever used you think it might be for first run movies like the one they have exclusively on Live now. Most likely not for homes. But if someone has a business and uses it. I love the way Valve sells games. I'm not sure how they plan to do the Steambox yet. I think a lot of this could be because in the past there were three or four different kinds of architecture to code to. Now there is really two and there isn't a lot of support for the second. The PS4 and the 720 are as close to regular computers as it gets. The Wii is still pretty close. Last generation there were often three teams. One PS4, one 360 and one Wii. A fourth for the PC. The key to a next generation Thief games should be physics. I want to shoot an arrow across a space and swing to a different building. Blow out every light source. Make floors slippery. Have things catch fire and the fire spread. Blow open every door. Just about everything blows up physics. The graphical update helps. But I want the physics upgrade.
There are differences. Flight simulators, race games with far better physics. Destruction. RTSs. I never bought a PS2 because I got caught up in RTSs on PC. I will say if developers start using Kinect for RTSs I will buy a Kinect.
The next re-fresh should be in 5 years. After that it should take a long, long time unless something major happens. Or at that point they should be upgradable.

I disagree with some of what you said. Really only the cost part. I believe this is a win-win for Sony. They definitely made a mistake offering online for free. Games sitting on a server don't cost much. Paying a set fee to the developer in order to get 10 million to pay $50 is still much cheaper than losing millions by not charging for online.
