Agreed the Cell B/E is more oriented towards a general purpose CPU but has the flexibility to be able to render graphics and ray trace in real time. The video was just an example of why the Cell is what it is and what it can do if tasked to. Not saying that it should ONLY do that but that it can and it does it well if need be. Now if only I could have more great discussions like this on N4G.
"But in my opinion it can not match the ultimate polished driving simulation that is the Forza series... GT5P is a close second but Forza is just too polished"
***FACEPALM***
Well that's the other thing about the Cell. It can render graphics/raytrace in real time. The following link will show you what I mean.

What the Cell B/E is capable of is truly astounding and a leap forward in computing. Hats off to IBM, Sony and Toshiba for designing a REAL next generation processor. My only hope is that the public come to see the elegance and po...

That link shows the i7 performance overclocked at about 86 gigaFLOPS. The Cell B/E is capable of a sustained 198 gigaFLOPS with a peak of around 205 gigaFLOPS. Also the memory bandwith and throughput are higher on the Cell B/E than on the i7. As for the Cell performance benchmarks I have this link which is the most informative....
I find one thing interesting and that is, "By the time the PS3 closes that 8million unit gap there's a good chance that MS will be gearing up to launch their Next Xbox." Simply put seeing what the PS3 is capable of with Killzone 2 and knowing that it has yet to be tapped to its' full potential what does that mean for the next XBox? I am not saying that the next XBox will be a lesser unit than the PS3 but IF (see I said IF) the PS3 can perform on a level beyond that of Killzone 2 d...
How is that you can tell? Especially with this statement?
"PSN and XBOX360, I prefer Live, and in no way have I ever paid 50 dollars a a year for the service. This is how I can tell who has played live and who hasn't. Live offers you the option to pay 19.99 for three months or pay on a one month basis which is I think 7 bucks."
The only thing that tells me is that you either enjoy paying $80/yr or $84/yr as opposed to $50 a year. In any case the fact that...
OK here's the thing. Microsoft cannot and will not cease charging for XBox Live. Simply because it is too big of a revenue stream to cut off and subsidises their games division. Put simply, 17 million * $50 = $850 MILLION dollars. That is just too much for MS or for that matter any company to let go in yearly revenue.
The Intel i7 has come nowhere near surpassing the processing power of the Cell B/E. A full on Cell B/E with all 8 SPUs available has more raw computing power than an Intel i7. For that matter the Cell's big brother, AKA: PowerXCell 8i, surpasses the i7 handily. The next generation of the Cell, aptly named the Cell 2, will be a true teraFLOP on a chip. Nothing in the realm of x86 can even come remotely close to that. So please before you begin to believe the spin learn about the processor...
Now I know you are delusional. "Because vista isnt broken..." That statement in and of itself proves that you have drank way too much of the MS kool-aid. Vista is and always will be known as one of the WORST operating systems to have ever been released by anyone. You wonder why MS extended the EOL of Windows XP to the end of January 2009? For that matter why Windows 7 has been a HUGE priority? Quick hint it begins with a "V", ends with an "A" and has "...
Fishy with words of wisdom. An agree and bubble for you.
Hmmm... using sales numbers to equate the Gamecube to the PS3 is interesting I'll give them that. But the big problem the GC had and the Wii CONTINUES to have is third party games. The lack of quality third party titles due to the love of Nintendo first party stuff helped kill the Gamecube and seems that pattern is beginning to repeat itself on the Wii. Not saying that the first party Nintendo stuff is bad but the fact that it's about the only titles that sell well on the Wii really hurts ...
Say it's a bad rumor.
In short, Dan Landis doesn't have a PS3.
Yet another analyst who thinks his opinion means something spews his nonsense on the internet.
Excellent work on the article as well as the responses here at N4G. You have helped restore my faith in humanity. After the last 6 weeks here on N4G I was beginning to think that all the gaming media could do is write junk. You have given me a renewed hope in what the gaming media should be.
And Microsoft doesn't spin reality?! Have you seen what they have been calling an operating system?! Now that there is truly spinning reality!
But why? MS has done nothing evolutionary or revolutionary in the tech industry ever. They fail at innovation as well. From DOS (which was PURCHASED) to their first operating system, Unix (yes unix), Windows, Zune, XBox. Nothing original or innovative at all. Not to mention besides everything they release being a "me too" copy of an existing technology it is usually a substandard bastardized version of it. It is disgusting that anyone can defend MS and call them good for whate...
"your daddy really is coming home one day!"
roflmao... omg that was priceless! +bubbles for making me laugh
I agreed with your comment but disagree with the whole patriotic thing. Personally quality and reliability trumps patriotism in the consumer market. This can be seen in the auto industry and consumer electronics as well. The only reason MS is selling well is price and being first to market.
FAIL! Here's hoping it's a misprint otherwise this would be one of the most useless features to be included in a game this gen.
